As for San Diego and this vaunted schedule you speak of...It's nowhere near as impressive as you're making it sound. I mean sure, they had to play New England Green Bay,Vikings and got smoked by those 3 teams. That said, they're in a division where they are the ONLY team in the entire division who is over .500, and they play each of those other teams twice, so I don't think their schedule is anything too daunting.

There fixed it for ya..

There was nothing to fix. I left Minnesota out of it, for a reason. They are worse than San Diego, record wise! They don't belong mentioned in the same breath with a team who is 11-0 and another team who is 10-1. They're a game under 500, and already booking their tee times for the end of December! I was simply making the statement that San Diego has played a couple of very good teams and got smoked by both of them. Although, I do appreciate you re-inforcing my argument that San Diego has played some shitty teams this season, like Minnesota, and still couldn't win!!!!

I know the Vikings aren't that good.. But they beat the piss out of some teams no one even gave them a shot.. We killed the bears ,chargers and giants..We suck and we spanked them.. You must be a Cowboys fan.. That was a good game you guys played against the Pats..LMAO.. The boys got killed.. The Freakin sucky Eagles with their back up quarterback almost beat the Pats.. Also, who have the freaking Packers played yet.. We are in rebuilding mode ,what do you expect..We still kicked the chargers ass, worse than almost any team, what does it matter.. Wait til the boys or the fudge Packers play the Pats in the bowl..Pats 44,whoever else..... 17!

You seriously think with my signature that I "must be a Cowboys" fan???? I hate the fucking Cowboys, with a passion! I don't call them the Fraudboys because I think they're a dominant team. They should have lost to the Bills, and the Bills are DREADFUL and simply gave the game away! The bottom line is that the NFL is DREADFUL this season. After the Patriots, Colts, Packers, Cowboys, and Jaguars, I'm not sure any of the other teams even belong in the NFL, based on some of the performances I've witnessed this season!

As far as you citing all of these teams that the Vikings beat...The Bears suck, The Giants suck, and the Chargers are a whopping ONE game over 500, so I don't think beating any one of those three teams is anything to be overly boastful about! The one point I do agree with you on is that the NFC is still the JV league, and I think no matter who the AFC representative is in the Super Bowl, they'll come away with the victory. It is simply a MUCH more physical league, and it's simply not the NFC's time!

Dude...I WILL give you that. We played like SHIT that night. I dare to say that we should be 9-2 right now....BUT...we're not. Winning by one fucking point to an inferior team was not in MY gameplan.

Great prediction. That said, if someone told me Favre was going to go down in the first half and not return, I would have predicted Green Bay would have lost by three touchdowns! Even though I LOATHE the Cowboys, I think they have separated themselves as the favorite to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. Not having to play in Green Bay in late January is going to be a HUGE advantage to the Cowboys, as they had ZERO shot of winning up there (in fact, I think they're 0-5, all time in Lambeau)!

And you still would have been wrong.

What's the word of Favre's injury? Anyone know?

EDIT: Never mind!

PACKERS EXPECT FAVRE TO BE FINE

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy says he does not believe the elbow and shoulder injuries that knocked him out of Thursday night's game in Dallas to keep him out of next Sunday's game against the Raiders.

"I think there's a great chance he will be ready against Oakland," McCarthy said, per the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Favre also told NFL Network, "I think I'll be OK."

Favre said the right elbow injury is similar to one he suffered in 2006, and that since he didn't have to miss a game last season, he doesn't expect to have to miss a game this season.

The Cowboys are definitely having a great year this year. Congratulations to you 'Boys fans for the W over Green Bay. As a Redskins fan, I certainly hate seeing the Cowboys having so much success, but I have to give props to Wade Phillips. I honestly thought he was nothing more than a stop gap for the Cowboys until Jones found the coach he really wanted. I just wished I could be as excited about football, but after Sean's death this week, it's been kind of depressing in Redskins Nation. :(

That was sad, no doubt. I haven't watched SportsCenter in the past couple of days so what's the word on the 'Skins Sunday game? They cancel or are they playing? If they're playing, out of respect of a young life cut short, I'll be rooting for the Skins.

They're playing. I have heard reports or rumors that they are going to be playing with just 10 guys on the defense, keeping Taylor's spot open. If they do this, I don't know if this will be for one play or the whole game. I had also heard that Portis was going to wear Taylor's number to honor him, but Portis decided not to. There is talk about moving the Chicago game back a couple of days. After they play the Bills, the whole team is flying down to Miami to Sean's funeral on Monday, and then when the Skins get back, they would only have two day to prepare for the Bears. So, I'm still waiting to see what happens with that. Either way, it's going to be hard, emotional week for my Redskins. Thanks for the support, by the way!

I can imagine the emotion. I mentioned Bonfire falling in '99 earlier in this thread...a LOT of UT fans were rooting for A&M just because of that. There was a lot of "brotherly love" I guess you could say. Rivals or not...it's still a life cut short.

This is true. And honestly, it brings me to tears seeing rivals like the Cowboys and Eagles honoring ST. I went on one Cowboys forum site, and they had changed the colors to burgundy and gold in honor of Sean Taylor. That was very touching.

Right. At the end of the day...it's life...not a football game. You can relate that to ANYTHING.
Taylor might have been in some shitty crowds before, but from what I know, he was trying to better himself and distance himself FROM those crowds. But to die over anything petty is just bullshit. Sad to see it happen this way.

Still... Cowboys won by 10 points, with Favre leaving in the first half. How can you really feel all that cocky about the victory Liam? I know, congrats on the big W... you get HFA (hurrah). But, how do you feel in the pit of your stomach knowing GB lost its leader and didn't have a couple other main guys healthy on the field either... a win is a win, but you guys didn't give our second string QB too much of a hard time. ...Or maybe he's just not all that bad.

(Good game, see you in a few weeks for retaliation. Personally, I'd rather have lost this one to have the more reason and karma to beat the shit out of them in the playoffs than to have won this last night and not had that going for us... just personal superstition, but like I said. See ya then... )

I know! Not only is it a waste of a great football player, but a waste of a person who was trying to become a better person. Those are the types of people I admire. The ones who have been in those crowds, realized it wasn't for them, and honestly tries to make a change for the better. It is a shame.

Jones has found the coach he wants. His name is Jason Garrett, and he's already on the staff. As soon as Jones realizes Phillips is a buffoon, he'll show him to the door and elevate Garrett. I'm not sure I ever remember an NFL assistant being touted as "the next coach of the team", while on that very team. If I were Phillips, I wouldn't turn my back on anyone in Valley Ranch!

Oh I have! But the thing is, Jason Garrett will probably get picked up before Jones has a chance to fire Wade. After all, Norv Turner was the mastermind behind the great cowboys' offense of the 90's, yet he sucked as head coach. Not saying the same will happen with Garrett, but sometimes they're best at being a coordinator only.

Yes they are. Norv Turner has proven that with Washington, the Raiders, and now San Diego, and Buffoon Phillips has proven he is nothing more than a coordinator with both the Bills and Broncos. Dallas isn't winning right now, because of Wade. They are winning because they simply have the best players in the NFC. Let us not forget that Barry Switzer won a championship with Dallas! Superior talent usually wins in the NFL, but sometimes coaches are so dreadful, that the talent us undermined by the complete ineptitude of a head coach. Turner is a classic example of that with San Diego this season!

And that's one thing you can take some consolation in. If Favre is hurt for a while, the backup QB can get the job done. He was very good.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

See ya then... )

EDIT: I'm a very sore loser. Can you tell?

yep its only November... :) January is where it will matter... this game at the end of the day has no meaning excpet in the media and fans eyes... Unless favre is out for awhile, one loss wont kill the team... it will be if they lose the next 3 that i will be bummed. Rogers Rocks... Liam, dont get too cocky you beat us with two studs on defense not playing and a 2nd string QB who almost came back and beat you guys...

Hey...I didn't get too cocky. I was rather nice. Not TOO many underhanded comments.
But Favre was playing like shit last night to begin with. Hence him getting sacked and throwing 2 interceptions. The first in 139 passes I might add.
But I'll agree with Rick on the backup QB doing well.

I'm not posting this as a knock on the Pack...but I'm really proud of my 'Boys so far. They've got a fighting chance of going to the Super Bowl to mark the '77 win.

IRVING, Texas - If the prospect of a playoff berth before December and the inside track to home-field advantage wasn't enough motivation Thursday night, Cowboys wide receiver Patrick Crayton found a little extra incentive on the Texas Stadium sideline.

Troy Aikman. Roger Staubach. Michael Irvin. Emmitt Smith. Tony Dorsett. The rest of the 1977 and 1992 Super Bowl squads, which were honored at halftime with a ceremonial lineup introduction from the east end zone.

"Just watching those guys put those rings up there like that, that's something that we want to be a part of," Crayton said. "That's what we're trying to do: Bring another ring back to Dallas 30 years from the date."

Thursday's convincing 37-27 victory over the Green Bay Packers clinched merely a playoff spot. No division titles or first-round byes or top seeds. Certainly not a Super Bowl title. Not yet, anyway.

The current Cowboys realize they're nowhere close to the championship level of 15 and 30 years ago. There's still much to prove, but an 11-1 record and tightening grip on the conference's best record is a large step in the right direction with four games left.

The Cowboys can win the NFC East as early as Sunday if the second-place New York Giants (7-4) lose to Chicago, but one more victory also wraps up their first division title since 1998. They also can assure themselves of a first-round bye with another win and another loss by Seattle (7-4) and Tampa Bay (7-4).

More important, the Cowboys seized the head-to-head conference tiebreaker over their closest competition for home-field advantage. Green Bay (10-2) must begin its final four-game stretch with health questions surrounding quarterback Brett Favre, who missed the entire second half Thursday night with a bruised elbow and separated shoulder. Packers head coach Mike McCarthy expects his 38-year-old starter will be ready to play next Sunday against Oakland.

"To quote the medical staff, his (249-game starts) streak is not in danger," McCarthy said.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys have a real chance to sweep their final four games and finish 15-1 for the first time in franchise history. Their remaining opponents (at Detroit, Philadelphia, at Carolina, at Washington) have a combined 20-24 record, with only the Lions (6-5) hovering above .500.

Despite three upcoming road trips, the Cowboys have proven they can win consistently away from Texas Stadium. They've won all five road games this season by an average of 14.8 points.

The Cowboys know better than to underestimate next Sunday's opponent, however. Last season's 39-31 loss to a 2-13 Lions team capped yet another sluggish December in Dallas.

"I don't see that (happening) from our team, but I will say the schedule-makers put us in a bad bind," Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips said. "We've got three on the road and the other team we're playing is a division team (Philly) that has beaten the Cowboys the last couple of years. We will have a tough rest of the way."

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones might agree if using history as a reference. In four years under Bill Parcells, the Cowboys had an 8-11 record after Thanksgiving and dropped three of their final four games last season to finish with the NFC's fifth playoff seed.

But Jones was encouraged by Thursday's decisive win over a team most consider the Cowboys' most worthy challenger in the conference.

"This starts us off right to addressing a swooning effect that we've had the last four years," Jones said. "And that is, win two out of the last five games, which had the net effect of leaving a bad taste in our mouth as we went into a playoff situation when we could get there."

"I think this (win) right now against a team like this, starting into the last quarter of this season, that's the most meaningful thing. Our arrow is pointed up."

The Cowboys also have better stability at critical positions. Last November, the club reluctantly ditched high-priced kicker Mike Vanderjagt and struggled to mount a consistent pass rush with Greg Ellis (Achilles) on injured reserve. This year, rookie Nick Folk (20 of 23 field goals) has solidified the kicker job and Ellis already has posted a career-high 10½ sacks in just nine games.

Offensively, quarterback Tony Romo and wide receiver Terrell Owens are collaboratively rewriting the club record books. Romo is the franchise's new single-season touchdown king (33), and Owens is one touchdown grab short of breaking Frank Clarke's 45-year-old record (14).

Thursday's triumph over a 10-1 Packers team - in front of the franchise's living legends - was the most significant team accomplishment yet.

"I think we established some more history," Crayton said after the Cowboys qualified for the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1998-99. "We're trying to continue history right here."
