DSB is not a ballad and if you think it is, you're an idiot.

Kind of like calling Jaws a horror movie. Many insist it is, but not me.

Nope. Not a ballad. Faithfully, Open Arms, and When You Love A Woman are ballads. DSB is a mid-tempo rocker at LEAST.

While I never thought of it as a ballad, the timing of the question is interesting.

This weekend the dj played DSB at my niece's wedding. Of course my wife and I had to dance and once we got to the dance floor, we weren't sure how to dance to the song. After some consternation, we danced as it were a "slow" song, but with a little more pep in our step.

Hearing it over the sound system reminded how good they really sounded "back in the day".

No, it isn't a ballad.

Not a ballad but who cares what it is, it sounds absolutely brilliant, except for maybe when the guys from Family Guy tried to sing it! :D

When I see people dance to this tune, it's usually a sway, slow dance style at the start and then a straight up and down bob for the rest of the tune. ;)

its a rocker when done live!!! the best two versions are the 1981 Houston CD after Perry annouces that Escape went to #1 and then here is some new escape music, the crowd goes crazy....and I love Augeri's version on the 2001 DVD, the extended dont stops are great.

To some it is an anthem.

Power ballad would be more appropriate than ballad. I'd call it more of an anthem though.

I'm not sure how anyone can think of DSB as a ballad! It's not even close! It's actually a very up-tempo song that always got my adrenaline flowing (in an "Eye Of The Tiger" sort of way). It's simply a timeless, classic song, that I will never grow weary of listening to, but it's definitely nowhere near ballad land!
