FYI: This guy also talks up every Iron Maiden album he's worked on as the greatest thing they've ever done. The last 2 have been atrocious.

While the song selection catered solely to Perry's strengths, the SOUND of TBF was amazing. However, Arrival did not sound nears as good. Funny that Shirley was a aprt of both CDs and they could sound so different.

"Dance of Death" sucked. "A Matter of Life and Death" was pretty good.

Last good Maiden album (IMO) was Brave New World. I don't remember if he worked on that one..but it was still good.

I have to agree that A Matter Of Life And Death was a good one. It took me a few spins to really get into it, but now it's definitely in the regular rotation.

Unfortunately, they've tried to remake that album twice. DOD and AMOLAD are both bad albums.
AMOLAD literally has 8 songs that have long boring slow instrumental intros.... this *was* a metal band at one point. Some of the intros sound exactly like those on the previous 2 albums. The songs are uninspired and go nowhere regardless of how grandiose they try to be.
Ever hear "Powerslave", "Somewhere in Time" or "Seventh Son"? Not even in the same universe as that stuff.
I think when there is a seriously lack of quality music out there, sub par efforts from known artists get more credit than they deserve. A kind of wishful thinking.
I've read enough Shirley reports from the studio to know that every project he works on is touted as a fantastic pinnacle of achievement by whatever artist it happens to be.

Well said. There has never been a poor sounding Perry disc.
