Azoff sure has flexed his muscle for Journey in the past 8 years. Yeah right.

Maybe it will be different this time around. Let me know how it turns out.

Azoff kept Journey a viable touring machine over the last 8 years. I can't think of too many artists/acts that began in the 70's that have played in front of more people than Journey has in that same time frame. Personnel decisions aside, he has kept the $$$$$ flowing in. And that's his job.

Azoff did not get Journey out into the media. How many National morning shows did they do in the past 8 years? Exactly 1.

No late night shows (letterman etc). We all know those performances are lipped, should have been easy to pull that off.

Azoff has all the connections, he could have done a ton more than he did.

How hard was it to keep them touring when they ran countless radio ad's with SP singing. The casual fan will always show up. That's what they keep saying about Arnel.

He did manage to get Journey to play 2nd fiddle to Taylor Hicks at the Mardi Gras last year. That had to be fun for the boys. LMFAO!!!!!!!

All very valid points, Dave. I just think that aside from somehow having an album do unbelievably well, they realize that they don't have to do the shows you mentioned because they have such a built in fanbase. I think they realize that minus Perry or minus an album that's a huge hit (unlike Arrival) they'd merely be wasting time and money. I suspect that probably won't change much. Time will tell.

They did it half assed. Bottom line. Journey under Azoff's mgmt. is the KIA of Rock 'n Roll. Not even close to a Lexus or Mercedes. Only one man can restore that.

Foolish Heart....I think you and I were listening to the same station. At 50,000 watts, it's the largest AM station in the state so this signal is picked up all over the place.

The traffic gal (Ann) in reference to journey finding their singer on youtube said "how desperate is that"? and then said "they (Journey) should just quietly go away" before saying they should just live off the residuals.

In either case, they were laughing over the whole deal....not the kind of press Journey is looking for in my opinion. When you start becoming your own joke....it's not good.

Ehh...they've always been a joke to a lot of people. I mean, weren't they the 80s ultimate chick band??? Seriously though, I feel that they have a fan base that always comes out of the woodwork to see the band live. Hell, the DJs will probably be at the show next time they roll through town.

Yes, Terry, I believe we were listening to the same station. :D Thanks for clarifying some of it. I see from your name that it's obvious you are from Illinois -- good luck in the Rose Bowl!!!!!

Thank you. I have a feeling we're going to need it against USC. But you never know. Hopefully it will be a good game.

Then prepared to be surprised. NO WAY does the band NOT tour the United States.

Care to explain why you think this?

I echo what St. John said, plus their bread and butter is in the US. There is too much money to be made in the States, versus the relative unknown of a tour of Asia or South America. I know that a lot of people here are predicting that there will be a giant drop-off in concert attendance. But I don't think so. I think the year off might have even helped them, just like whoever it was in the band saying "you have to go away for them to miss you." I don't see them releasing a new album in the US, especially through Wal-Mart, and then not touring behind it.

Ahhh I found the post Jeremey made regarding the Walmart deal... had no idea that was in the works... I stand corrected...

can you point me to that? I keep hearing 'walmart deal' and I don't knwo what it is...

Agreed. And you fucking know I prayed for a LONG time for that to happen (still do). Sadly, at a time when David Lee Roth, Sting, Robert Plant and Phil Collins are able to psychologically get over the fact that they won't sound the same as they did 20 years ago, they have gone ahead and given the fans what they want. Steve Perry on the other hand is content with lawyer's visits and solitude. Good for him...bad for the fans. I guess we'll have to take comfort in the memories the TBF tour gave us.

Roth sounds better now live than EVER. Truth.

I have the boots to prove it. He never took the gigs seriously in the 80's. It's obvious he's trying harder now. He's not Steve Perry of course, but he is performing and exceeding expectations.

His perspective was that, after playing the MP3's from YouTube, the radio DJ's thought he sounded amazingly like Steve Perry, as did my co-worker. This co-worker is an enormous smart-ass (and a good guy), so if he thought Arnel didn't sound like Steve Perry, he wouldn't have hesitated to say so.

"separate_wayz"

You've got the secret to what Journey needs and has ALWAYS needed.
