You're just too much of a cloth-eared philistine to appreciate the full majesty and spiritual depth of that mini-masterpiece, Dave. :)

Perry's vocals are good and so is Schon's solo but I don't like the poppy, bouncy feel of the song. Sounds like the music, other than the solo, was written more for a Britney Spears song.

Yes...I know what you mean...and I wonder if they were inspired to go for that 60s soul/Motown pastiche by Billy Joel and his Innocent Man album. Who knows though...but I reckon Positive Touch is really a song of two halves...the first is light and bouncy and pure cheese ...until it switches gear into something very melancholic and grand and Journeyesque in the second half...and that's why it's such a clever track.

Er...or maybe I'm just talking shit? :)

Wow Dave, you have 3 of my faves on there. Love Perry's vocals on ICHBY and FIB and really like the bluesy feel of Homemade Love.

As for Can Do, I'd put that down 5 times for worst if I could.

1. Can Do
2. Back Talk
3. Color's of the Spirit
4. Lady Luck
5. One More

Homemade Love sounds sexy. Well, once I got past the goofy ass lyrics it did, anyway.
I went from hate it to love it on that song.

I'd nominate "On a Saturday Nite" for that one. Any time a song has night spelled as "Nite", it's a sure sign that the song sucks the big one.

If we're talking ANY era... Gone Crazy.
Though that should probably be their anthem by now, because clearly, they've done exactly that.

I used to hate Lady Luck. I like it now for some reason.

Are you kidding... One More and someday soon...? HUH?

Never cared for either one. I thought One More sounded like they started out trying to write this big, powerful anthem, then they got bored and phoned it in. Worst track on TBF other than Baby I'm Leavin' You. Someday Soon is OK, just not really my thing, I guess.

Gawd, I love ATF, actually for a lot of the reason you put up there. Smitty's drumming was bombastic. Perry just "yelling" his heart out on that one. :)

Smith's drumming saves that whole song.

But I can name a worse video (not SW either):

Chain Reaction.

Ugh, the giant chess board and the mannequin that looks suspiciously like Sherrie.
I still the ATF is worse but they could tie for #1.

Now that I think of it, Journey wasn't exactly known for their, uh, video style....although SP in a tux still gets me "loon-y"

My five baaaad Journey songs:

Back Talk
Homemade Love
Castles Burning
Sweet and Simple - blech
Good Morning Girl - blech blech (probably because it is followed by that masterpiece "Stay Awhile" - I'd always wait for GMG to finish on the album to get to "my" song!)

Castronovo covering it in Irvine 2005 is an interesting rendition to have.

Neal's tone and solo in that song save it from utter crapness and/or mediocrity.

Gasp! Blasphemy! :D :D I guess being near the cit-ay by the bay-ee-ayha gives it a special meaning! :)

Haven't heard that one. But Perry's ('79 I think) live version is what sold me. Actually I'm finding more times than not, I will like a Perry/Journey song live more so than the studio. LTS in my opinion is another one that comes across better live 10 fold. That song has much more of a bluesy/sexy swagger when played live.

Hmmm........this might be a good thread topic to start, I'm curious what other people's opinions of live vs. studio are.

There are relatively few Journey songs I will actually SKIP when they come up on random, but that's one of them.
Those lyrics just suck. Baby I'm Leaving You and Back Talk are the other ones I intentionally skip. Baby I'm Leaving You makes me want to hurt cute furry animals for no reason. Maybe instead of worrying about adding bonus tracks, they should have reissued that album minus that song along with an enclosed note that said... "Sorry about that. Our bad."

Guess I'll do mine now...

Baby I'm A Leavin' You
Castles Burning
Can Do
Eyes Of A Woman
Open Arms (I have my reasons to hate this song)

Now...for the song I'm most sick of....DON'T STOP BELIEVIN'. Used to love it...but with it being overplayed on radio and stupid drunk college kids thinking they can sing it at karaoke...I don't need to hear the song ever again.
