The Party's Over has an extended solo in Japan (I think) and it's the best I've ever heard Neal play. Simply brilliant. Can't wait to hear that guitar smoke this year.

Is this it? Solo starts at about 3:13.

No, but it's darn close to that one. THIS is it, though. Unbelievably creative solo at the end. Perhaps the greatest guitarist on the planet at that time. At the 3:30 mark Neal just takes it to another level...like only he can do. Fucker looks wasted too.

I agree that the solo's in "Mother, Father" and "Still They Ride" are fantastic.

The cool thing is, that those are both slower tempo songs for the most part, but Neal manages to fly during the solo's without making it sound forced at all. Sometimes it's tough for a guitarist to show off the speed skills during a ballad type number, but that's not a problem on these solo's at all.

Kinda like the was Steve Smith shines on the song "Sandcastles" from Dream After Dream.

Neal's the master of guitar playing. Picking just one of his solos is impossible for me to do.

On other websites that rank the greatest guitarists and guitar solos of all time, Stone In Love is usually Neal's highest rated solo. It ranks extremely high on my own list as well.

I'll try to give this question some thought and come up with a short list of some of my favorites.

Agree, that's a beautiful song and the vocals are out of this world. The song works well on many levels, the vocals/piano/drums/guitar all sound harmonious and the guitar solo doesn't sound like its out of place.

In no particular order....

Of A Lifetime
The Ride (from Schon & Hammer's Untold Passion CD)
I'm Down (from Schon & Hammer's Untold Passion CD)
La Do Da
Winds Of March
Boom Ba Ya Ya (from Abraxas Pool CD)
In The Hands Of Time (from Hardline's Double Eclipse CD)
Message Of Love
One More
Can't Tame The Lion
I Can See It In Your Eyes
Forget Me Not (from Bad English's Bad English CD)
Rockin' Horse (from Bad English's Bad English CD)
Dancing Off The Edge Of The World (from Bad English's Backlash CD)
Gotta Get Back To You (from Neal Schon's Piranha Blues CD)
New Position (from Soul SirkUS World Play CD)
All The Things
World Gone Wild
I Can Breath
Stone In Love
Who's crying Now
Still They Ride
Lay It Down
Dead Or Alive
Mother Father
Separate Ways
Chain Reaction
Edge Of the Blade
Better Together

I know that doesn't seem like a short list, but like I said, Schon has too many great solos for me to be able to name only one or a few.

Two things about that video:
1. Did Perry borrow Cain's shirt? It has piano keys on it.
2. That must've been Neal's official debut of the purple shirt.

I'm gonna throw Nickel & Dime out there. Just the main riff is a killer.
Of a Lifetime, Edge Of The Blade, Chain Reaction, and Escape ALL LIVE are great as well.

Mine's "Who's cryin now". Awesome solo that's so melodic and powerfull! Like others on here though, I like so many. He's not the biggest shredder out there, but he's probably the best melodic player I've ever heard. I'm a huge Toto fan as well, but to me Neal is just barely one notch higher than Lukather. Luke's probably my second favorite. Although, Lukather is a kick-ass singer, so I guess overall I'd have to say he's my favorite.

I just confused myself  carry on!

My top picks would probably be "Of A Lifetime", "Message of Love", and for some reason I've always liked "Who's Cryin' Now" for the solo.

There's too many good ones to choose from. I love the live version of his solo in Still They Ride, but maybe Of a Lifetime's solo would get my vote.

Even though not nearly his most complicated solo, I love who's crying now. The soulfullness of that solo is amazing. Where as some guitarists want to shred through a solo, which in my opinion can sometimes have less impact and ruin a great moment in a song, Neal consistently wrote parts that were very tasteful. That is the sign of a top notch musician.
