I don't know that I would say he specifically "stole" it though, or was necessarily aware he was even doing it.
But yes, it's absolutely the exact same vocalization. Listen to it, for a second you'd swear you're hearing LTS.

Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" was much further away from the Chiffon's "He's So Fine" than this example and he got sued for it.
The musical influence is definitely there. That's another thing, I think Sam has influenced more singers than Perry did (right or wrong) and I think the question of how the singer has influenced others has to come into play when deciding the best of the best.

We're gonna have to beat out the Queen fans, first though. Queen and May are leading by miles in the rock band and guitarist categories, respectively. And I see Neal standing... or more likely squatting... with a very small .76% (when last I looked - at least he's not dead last yet) and Journey was eliminated from the band one, so obviously Journey fans aren't flocking in droves to this one.
