OT: NEW DOKKEN TRACK!!!

Postby Rip Rokken » Tue Dec 11, 2007 9:38 am

Just found out this was posted! SWEET! The riff is very old-school Dokken (and almost a little RATT-ish), with a great hook:

"OASIS (Rough Mix)"

http://www.myspace.com/dokken1

Could this be one of the tracks JSS sings backups on? Can't WAIT for this disc! By the way, I just got flooded today with all the Journey discs I'd ordered, so I have a lot of listening to do.

Thanks Lar, but I still have no idea who this person is. That's OK though. If I've lived without them for this long I'll happily continue. I hope you enjoy it greatly though. :D

Jon Levin is AWESOME, and really does a great Lynch. I think aside from John Norum, he's my favorite Dokken guitarist other than Lynch, and probably because does that guitar style so well -- uses some of the same scales and stuff. Or as another guy here might say, "He sounds like DOKKEN, not LYNCH!" :P

No, no, no... Can't let ya get off that easy! :P You haven't truly lived unless you've gotten into some Dokken! :P Do me a favor -- just go back to that MySpace link and listen to all the songs there -- if you like ballads, start with "Alone Again" and imagine Steve Perry singing it if that helps. :P

Wow! The true classic Dokken sound is finally back! I just wish Don could livin' up his voice a bit. That is one thing I've noticed about Dokken in recent years and I do realize age attributes to it, but it seems like Don has lost some "umph" in his voice. Don't get me wrong, I still think he sounds really good.

This might be a Dokken disc I purchase. I haven't purchased any since their last album with lynch. That album to me was a bitter disappointment.

Well, it's like training wheels, ya see! You'll eventually graduate from Perry to Don Dokken, but... haha..... Ok, seriously, go listen to "Alone Again", and imagine yourself cuddling up with Don Juan Dokken if that helps. And be sure to tell me what you think of the song.

"Dysfunctional" and "Shadowlife" were the only two disappointing Dokken discs I've ever heard. I know many people like "Dysfunctional", and I was amazed and excited just to hear a new album from a reunited Dokken, but it didn't do it for me. A few good songs on each, though, but they just changed their sound on each. However, both those albums have excellent ballads! "Nothing Left To Say" and "Bitter Regret" -- the best of the best!

Shadowlife is the one I bought. No matter how hard I tried to let the album grow on me, it just never did. There was only one song I really liked off of that album. Hard To Believe. Probably wasn't the best song on the album. Maybe I should give is another spin again.

I loved "Puppet On A String" (opening track), and they opened up with it during the Shadowlife tour when I met them all. I absolutely love "Bitter Regret" -- beautiful song.

Don is quite open about what happened -- about how their producer tried to modernize them and wouldn't let him use any vibrato in his voice. I've also heard it was mainly a Lynch project that got turned into a Dokken effort. I could swear I heard something similar about "Dysfunctional". George was always the one wanting to try new stuff (rap rock, anyone)?

I know people love Lynch, but I honestly feel the band is better now without him. Levin has that Lynch sound pretty down, but is still his own guitarist. I've loved every album since "Shadowlife" -- "Long Way Home" included!

I loved Lynch in Dokken, but because of the stuff he did during the peak Dokken years. I agree though, if Lynch was trying to turn Dokken into something completely different, as evident of Shadowlife, then it probably was best for Dokken and Lynch to part ways. I have heard tidbits of Erase the Slate and the stuff since that album, and I like that stuff 10 times better than the 90's Dokken stuff. It sounds like Levin has finally given Dokken their true classic sound back, and that will definitely spark interest out of me for the band again.

Pick up "Hell To Pay" if you don't have it already (Levin's first). I know some fans thought it was weak, but I loved it. Also loved "Long Way Home", though I may be in a minority on that, too. My understanding on that disc is that it was supposed to be a Don Dokken solo effort that he decided to make the next Dokken album -- kinda like Lynch supposedly did on those others we discussed! :P
