"last studio CD was REHAB".....it's a shame he didn't make it. I'll never understand why some cant face reality without needing to escape it. Your given one life that is already short enough, why live like your already dead and then throw it away. :(

Actually, I thought that was a brilliant question on more than one level. Oh, the irony -- what comes around goes around! :P

Damn, some of people are pretty harsh.
God forbid if any of you have ever made any bad decisions in your lives.
I guess everyone here has never succumbed to any bad or dangerous vices
like smoking, recreational drug use of any kind, the occasional times you may
have driven a motor vehicle after a few alcoholis beverages...

Like 90% of the rockers from his era, it seems Kevin partied hard and
had a hard time getting past his addictions. So now that we know it
was a drug overdose, he goes from someone "that will be greatly missed"
and "One of the Greats" to being a loser and such...

Shallow...

I agree. The whole situation is sad. Some people are not as strong as others.

Addicts are very complex individuals. Some eat themselves to death, others drink themselves to death, others drug themselves to death.

My hat's off to all those who by God's grace manage to break free of that level of addiction and learn that life is truly worth living sober.

My heart's out to all those who never find that freedom and peace in their lives...

Agreed. There's a saying, once an addict, always an addict. A once heavy heavy drinker will become a heavy smoker. A once heavy smoker will become a heavy eater. An anorexic will become buliamic or a combination of the two. The same is true with obsessive compulsives or people with anxieties. When they tire or lose their fear of one situation, they'll find a half a dozen other situations to be fearful of.

Even with help, the habit, both internally and externally is almost impossible to break.

Cunning, baffling, powerful, and oh so fuckin' patient. I hate the disease. The sad part is most addicts don't get the help, don't get out of it. Most die, just like this. Prayers going out to all the souls struggling tonight. Damn.

I also believe genetics plays a small part. Why is it one person can drink a glass of wine and be done with it and another will drink the whole bottle without thinking twice about it?

It's a disease that includes both physiological and psychological elements. One guy orders a beer and gets up to leave when the bottle is still half full. His friend thinks that's sacrilege and downs the rest of his friends beer as they head out the door.

Frickin addictive personalities, I hate em. I've never experienced addiction, well, except maybe to food and sex. But these guys who can't get off the drugs, the alcohol, etc, at the same time I feel sorry for them and want to give em a good kick in the ass. SO hard to treat. Especially if the patient doe'snt want to be treated.

Here's a solution for you..I don't give 2 shits if your famous or rich.. You have a choice! I chose not to smoke, try drugs and I drink socially, never been in hand cuffs,(well outside the bedroom anyhow)ha..and its not being cold.. I feel for everyone affected.. He chose his path,I chose mine.. Getting addicted to crack, coke, meth or anything..You try that shit and either you like it or you don't..and if you like it your fucked! I chose not to know..Alcohol is legal.. My father, his father and his younger brother were all alcoholics..His father took his own life.Once again he is a POS for doing so.. Left his whole family high and dry..My dad hasn't touched a smoke or drink in 35yrs at least.. My uncle is just out of jail for 2 dwi's ,His wife divorced him,his daughter(my 21 yr old cousin) who was gorgeous, got killed in a car accident drinking and driving at 2 am.. .02 to be exact.. So I'm pretty sure I have ground on how I feel about this.. I did not want shit like that to rule my life..I am a very light drinker and its only on fri or sat night.. I'm just tired of everybody else's bullshit affecting everyone else..Selfish shit ! and I have no tolerance for it..

I agree also that there's a certain amount of free will at play. I do believe however, that some people have more addictive personalities than others.
