I agree with the last few posts. Unless you've been in said person's mind and life, you can't really judge them for their shortcomings. Everybody has vices and addictions to some degree. You can be addicted to anything, from drugs to booze, sex, food, driving (me), message boards even. If any of you haven't heard the 7th Heaven song "Medicated" (great song), listen to it.

Sometimes we don't know why we do the things we do, after a while it can be forgotten why you began down the path to begin with. Others try to help, some that just pushes them even stronger. After a while, others give up and just have to sit back and watch the destruction take place. Its sad, it really is. Because everyone has their chances at happiness, most are too afraid to take them. Vices and addictions become the only escape some people have for the deep-rooted problems they are avoiding. Everybody knows a few people afflicted, some of us here are afflicted. Love them if you can. You'll get hurt, but you just might be the one to help them heal.

Seriously? Even with gas prices being what they are right now?

I experienced this exact same thing last night when I rented a new Steven Seagal movie at Blockbuster. I told the cashier I had no idea why I was doing it, and that I'd sworn off them after a string of unbelievably rotten ones. Old habits die hard, I guess... Now I'm off to finish watching it. No joking on this one, as I can see the guilt and regret coming...

Seriously. Here in my town its only $2.82, which is nothing. After Katrina hit, I was living in Asheville paying $4.27. Didn't slow me down. Bought a brand new Jeep in October of 06 with 36 miles on it, not 36,000, thirty-six miles. As of right now it has 46,700, in 12 months and two weeks. It seriously is a problem, but only financially speaking. Driving is my therapy. I can't stand to feel caged in or tied down, jumping in the car for a trip out the road or half-way across the country is my way of not having constant anxiety attacks. Not kidding!

LOL on the Steven Segal movie. What did you think it was last night? 1995?

Yup...genetics is a HUGE ass part of it. Grandfathers (both), father, brother, uncles... and me. Lost an uncle to it, lost both grandfathers to it. Mercifully, from my dad and brother, I got the message and have been sober for over 17 years. Chuck's got... 30? something like that. I've told both my boys genetically, they are SCREWED...they listened, and neither partake. It can skip generations tho, so they need to keep that in mind as well. I'm just grateful that I only got into the booze, and not the other shit.

I have numerous addictions.

1. Posting at this and the other 88 message boards that I belong to.

2. Steve Perry. (That goes without saying).

3.Hitting the refresh buttom ninety-nine times a minute to see whether anyone has responded to my posts or threads.

4. Chinese food. Doesn't matter how sod awful, I'll eat it.

5. The internet in general.

6. I am addicted to my various anxieties and worry about my anxietie's anxieties.

7. Movies, particularly DVD shopping. Specifically CLASSIC movies. At my worst, I bought 7 dvds a week. I cry when I think about the money I could have paid on my debt as opposed to accumulating debt.

I am better now though. I am close to paying off my credit cards. I went through a three month dry spell with no DVD consumption. However, this past weekend (cash) I bought 2 dvds.

Addictions run in my family, so I understand them very well. My dad went to prison when I was two due to his addictions. I didn't see him until I was 18. He wanted to meet me at a bar at noon for drinks after he got out of jail. I drank Pepsi, he drank vodka... straight... at noon. My brother is the same way. He's great when he's straight, but give him a few beers and next thing you know he's in jail for suspected arson. He's been in and out of jail his whole life. I haven't seen him for years... neither of them. I'm trying to raise a family, and I protect my kids from that lifestyle. But unfortunately there is a genetic factor. By the grace of God I have been able to manage my addictions and live a successful and productive life. Others are no so lucky. Kevin Dubrow was one of them. But he did make it much further than some others who walked in his shoes... Jimi Hendrix... Janis Joplin... Bon Scott... Jon Bonham... Jim Morrison... the list goes on.

Unfortunately, a rock star dying prematurely, from a drug overdose, is a story that's been written a zillion times! Sadly, I almost expected it to be attributed to a drug overdose, as otherwise healthy people don't normally just drop dead, from no apparent cause. Regardless of the cause, it doesn't make the story any less sad.

Coolness, Carlitto is dishing out some Humble Pie!
I agree with the whole of what your saying Sir.
When I read of the manner in wich Mr Dubrow died, I felt heart sunk
that it was by his own foolishness.
I sure as the sky above didn't want to judge him or condem his choices though.

I'm working my way up to it... Two more posts and I'll give it a shot. I used to be a HUGE Seagal and Van Damme fan, but Seagal's films went down the toilet. A few years ago, he started making at least 5-6 PER YEAR, and wouldn't even finish the editing on them. For several, you will find sections where another actor had to dub their voice in place of Seagal's, and it's just horrendous. I heard that one recent movie, they used another actor's voice entirely, for what reason I don't know.

Dude looks way out of shape, and doesn't even do most of his own action anymore -- uses stunt doubles who kick in ways he's never been able to before -- it's really a joke for a martial arts movie star. There are still rays of light thru the darkness, though. A few years ago he put one out called "Belly of the Beast" which was really not bad! A big step ahead in quality. This one is called "Urban Justice" and it looks kinda cheaply made, but is really not that bad! It is still my destiny to meet Steven Seagal. I've drank enough of his energy drinks to earn a meet-n-greet!

Whenever I go stateside to see family and we order Chinese Food
(for the politically correct, "food made by folks in the orient" )
They have no clue what it is, can't find it anywhere in America man.
Mind you the stuff I salivate over is Canadian Chinese Food not the
authentic stuff where they hustle around you barefoot making it.

In retrospect I watched my brother slowly kill himself over 15 years.
It slips by slowly
catches you unaware
lets you dig your own grave
shovel by shovel
while it makes you think you're digging for gold.

Shameful waste of good life
but it could be anyone
Your mother father
sister brother
& the sad part is we are almost as helpless as they are.

Some struggle day after day
there lives a living nightmare
with this demon on there back
whispering in there ear
relentlessly waiting for a moment
to sink in there poison.

Did someone once sing
"the Devil In Disquise"

I sort of have an addictive personality in the sense
when I like something I never get tired of it
Still I can drink 1 or 2 glasses of wine & I can say enough
I never saw anything special in drugs
So I have been blessed.
& for that I am very grateful

really sad.in 1983 i had just started getting into music.i liked journey, aldo nova, billy squier, loverboy, styx, etc. then i heard def leppard pyromania that year.'83 was the year metal exploded with motley crue, judas priest, iron maiden, def leppard, quiet riot, twisted sister, ratt and dokken to name a few.i had that fuckin' album and it was so evil looking metal health.that and iron maiden number of the beast.i was 9 years old and while other kids played with hot wheels i was jamming to same heavy melodic music that sadly will never be relived again.i played and scratched that sucker to death listening to kevin dubrow scream and yell.i couldn't get enough of bang your head,c'mon feel the noize, slick black cadillac, etc. and those videos were badass as well.that huge ass speaker that had the giant volume knob.then of course kevin ran his mouth in hit parader and circus magazine which i bought every month and read him putting down others like motley crue and def leppard.so what happened? def leppard and motley crue went on to become the biggest bands of the 80's while quiet riot suddenly lost all momentum.marlyn manson got the band back together in 1997 to do a party at his house which led to them working together again but the best years were already gone.the man made mistakes but he seemed to be turning a new leaf from the things i read about him the last few years.i think something similar happen to john entwistle of the who a couple years back.older men in their 50's like entwistle and dubrow shouldn't be doing cocaine.cocaine is a young mans drug.sad to see this happen because all the best seem to be taken too soon by overdoses.i think i'll go get rehab today.i want to listen to the last music kevin did.sad he is gone.rehab will be kevins final musical output.

Same here... I've heard it's great. It's been on my want list for a while. Good time to buy it and give a final nod to a great band.
