I Can See It In Your Eyes - SP and the Guffs.- A rehash

With the current debate of TBF vs. Arrival, I started thinking about the Guffs remake with SP back vox. I think a couple people already brought this up, but at the threat of being tossed to BACK TALK never land, I thought I'd ask again. How many here think that was an example, the little that we heard, of his current vocal state? IMO, he sounded much better than, for example, at the infamous Whitesox game. If the answer is yes, how much of it was real and how much of it was smoothed over via studio magic? Or is it more likely, that those backing vocals aren't recent at all, and are the incarnation of an earlier recording period, i.e. TBF, 96.

Those vocals are current. I would bet that with some vocal cord therapy like Steven Tyler had, employing a vocal coach and exercise, he would sound as good or better than he did on TBF.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Bearing in mind that all voices are different and that I am not a professional vocal therapist by any means; the general consensus by most informed individuals (such as on digitaldreamdoor) conclude that Steve Perry's "weakened" voice is a primary result of its lack of use; like all muscles, when the vocal cords aren't used as much, they begin to lose strength, and Perry's advanced years also result with the cords loosening and slacking. But there are professional vocalists his age who sound almost as clear and prestine as they used to in their prime, but very few singers ever sang as consistently brilliant as Perry did live (not even Mercury). So, I'd agree. If Perry committed to go to vocal therapy, to work with a coach, and to keep it in use -- he could definately tour again. He won't recover his pre-80s supertenor, but he'll perform at FtLoSM standards and perhaps Raised on Radio. Hell, take his occasional vocal attempts in I Stand Alone (he still demonstrates outstanding control and power, especially at the end "All by myselllllllffff!" note), two years after TBF, or even now with his backing vocals with Guff and Pack (where he demonstrates that he can add a rough, higher edge to his voice in his screaming moments as he punctuates Guff's lead singer).

In conclusion: the man's still got potential to work with.
