The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its latest class of inductees, who include Madonna, John Mellencamp, songwriter Leonard Cohen, surf-rock pioneers the Ventures, and British Invasion act the Dave Clark Five, rollingstone.com reported Thursday (December 13th). Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, the influential Philly Soul songwriter/producer team, will be presented with the Ahmet Ertegun Award, which was previously known as the non-performer category, and is now named after the late Rock Hall founder and Atlantic Records chief. Blues harmonica player Little Walter will be inducted in the sideman category.
The inductees will officially enter the hall at the annual ceremony, to be held March 10th at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
Acts on this year's ballot but not receiving enough votes from members to be inducted include the Beastie Boys, Chic, Donna Summer, and Afrika Bambaata.
To be eligible, acts must have released their first single no later than 25 years ago, in this case 1982.
The Rock Hall came under fire last year when it was reported that Hall exec and Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner rigged the results to induct Grandmaster Flash
