The thing that's frightening, from a Singer's point of view:

Absolutely! He knew how to use his voice perfectly. Nora, how does a singer train themselves to cross that bridge......I dont know what you call it, but when they can cross that "hump" , you know, to get into the upper range and soar into the stratisfear like that? Without having to "leap" into a falsetto?

Those notes are incredible, there's no doubt about that, and the most incredible thing is that they still have a melodic sound. It's not as if he's just reaching a note, he's singing that note. That said though, those notes aren't the best thing about his voice. It's the depth of the soulful resonance of his voice that makes him the best.

I don't know what anyone would call it...

But I think it's because he was in the Tenor range, to begin with....and WORKED to obtain that classic Falsetto sound...he just went into it...

Not sure if this link has been posted on this board or not, I've at least not run across it on here anywhere.

This cover band is pretty good, the singer really looks a lot like SP. The guitarist reminds me of Cosmo Kramer though.

The hump that Perry passes is from his chest voice into his head voice. But its a mix of his headvoice, which is strong, and his chest voice which makes it even stronger. The chest voice can only go so high, but when it is mixed with the head voice it is strong, and very clear. Perry hardly uses falsetto mainly because he's mastered the mixed voice. He uses falsetto in Wheel in the sky and Mother Father which also has a little bit of headvoice in it too. Stevie Wonder is a prime example of mixing headvoice with his chest voice also.
