yes, i had a 2mm stone. it was the mother of all pains. no insurance, paid 10k for a CT scan. i should have asked them how much the scan would cost before they stuck me in there but at the time i was in too much pain and no amount of money was too small. they gave me vicoden. knowing what i know now, if i get another one, i can take vicoden and wait for it to pass.

interestingly, i had a similar but lesser pain a week before. they tell me that it was only starting to move. when i had the full blown pains, where you're sweating bullets and on the ground in agony, that's when it's making it's way down the tube.

Dude, seriously. Drink a glass of cranberry juice a day. That'll help. Not just while you're having pain or passing a stone, but as a general rule.

I've never had one before but I woke up feeling sick to my stomach this morning at about 4:30.

I was going to ask how much you let that Fender HM Strat go for -- seller's regret causes similar symptoms! :P Seriously, very sorry to hear this, and hope it goes well. I've never had one myself, but know several people who have. They used to have a non-invasive procedure by which they'd break it up sonically, I believe, and then it would pass naturally. That's been several, several years ago, so I'm sure the technology has advanced even further.

Hmm... sonically... Hey! If you want to get out cheap, try going to a Van Halen concert! :P Warning, loss of hearing might be a side effect.

Best of luck, bro, and I'll say a prayer for ya.

Doing OK so far today, ladies. I haven't passed the stone yet and it's not hurting right now, so it's probably either still stuck or waiting to be ejected from the bladder.

Update, day 3:

  • Still haven't passed the stone. Had to get up to piss about once an hour last night, though.
  • When I take a leak, I have to piss into a container and then pour it through a strainer to catch the stone. When I was doing that, bending over the toilet this afternoon, I tweaked a muscle in my lower back. So now I have lower back pain besides that from the kidney stone...
  • On top of that, I have a nasty sinus infection. I've used so much nasal spray that it only works for about a half an hour at a time, if that.
  • On Tuesday, when I left work, my truck wouldn't start and I had to get a jump from a coworker. I drove it to Wal Mart since that's where I got the battery originally. The battery wasn't holding a charge and it wasn't under warranty, so I paid about $90 for a new one. It started up fine when I left there and I went straight to the gas station to get it filled up. When I went to leave, it wouldn't start again. Had to have it towed and found out that one of the wires going to the battery was bad. Got that fixed for about $70. Went to drive it again and now there's a loud rubbing noise on the driver's side. Now I have to have the upper & lower ball joints replaced, along with the wheel bearings. This will total about $450.
  • Yesterday, we got a call from a friend that a friend of my wife, actually more of a second mother, died from breast cancer. My wife didn't know that she was doing so poorly, so it was kind of a shock even though we knew she had cancer.
  • Because of the kidney stone and expenses from getting my truck fixed, we may not be able to go on vacation to Florida next Saturday as we had planned.

Yikes! What a week.

Despite that, I'm still alive and managed to make it through a day of work...AND post here a few times. :D

Thanks for the update Dave, and I think I can speak for everyone here when I say that we're just going to have you put down!

Seriously, I'm sorry all of the bad stuff is happening all at once, especially the death of your friend.

I hope it has all run it's course and you have nothing but good fortune from here on.

I was in a conversation with a coworker a few days ago about the same subject. He was in a similar situation, yet it took him three painful months to pass the stone. Just before it came out while pissing, his piss came to a complete pause for a few seconds, the stone unexpectedly fell out into the toilet and then his piss resumed. Unlike many people, he said he never felt a thing as it made it's final passage. After retrieving it with salad tongs (or whatever someone uses) he said he was amazed at the site of the stone, as it looked like a tiny burdock seed head.

Here's hoping for a pain free passage!

Dave
I can empithize, I had 2 medium sized ones and have never been in so much pain in my life... the good news is once the pain gets bad enough to go to the emergency room it usually means the stones are moving and probably on the way out. I gave up on the Fuckin strainer and just passed the damn things.

Good luck, I hope you are almost done with them.

I had one of those mothers once. Had a really bad cramp in my side that wouldn't go away. A couple hours later, I was on the floor of my bedroom with my eyes watering. Went to the ER, and they were busy, so they left me in the waiting room for an hour.

I finally went up to the admitting nurse and told her that I thought I was about to pass out from the pain. They admitted me and took me for a cat scan.

They found the stone and finally gave me some drugs. On the way back to my little room, we passed a large man lying on a gurney in the hallway screaming at the top of his lungs - shockingly loud. I turned to my nurse and said, "What's wrong with THAT guy?" "Same thing that's wrong with you."

When we got back to my room, she said, "Did you know that a kidney stone is the greatest amount of pain that a human body can feel, including childbirth?" I believed her.

The doctor finally came by to see me, gave me my strainer (used to catch the little bugger once it finally comes out. Then you have to send it away to a lab to make sure that it's nothing more horrible than what it already is). He gave me a perscription of Vicodin, I believe. He ALSO told me that kidney stones are supposedly more painful than childbirth. (And certainly less rewarding, I can tell you).

But there's not really much you can do about them. You just gotta wait for it to come out. If it continues to hurt, take drugs (but don't drive). He also told me that once you've had one, you have the likelyhood to have more. Great...

So everybody reading this, go have a nice big glass of water right now.

Hey folks...Mission accomplished. Passed the stone last night at about 12:45.

Truthfully, the pain wasn't as bad as I had heard and that some of you said you experienced. I think mine passed most of the way from the kidney to the bladder while I was asleep, though, so I wasn't awake for most of it.

Anyway, I'm glad it's over.

Sorry for the death of a loved one Dave. Happy for the stone's departure.

Now, as for the loud rubbing you heard on your truck.....just turn up the radio. Works for every woman out there

Nasal spray warning!

Was it Afrin (or the equivalent) you used? That stuff will cause almost like an "addiction" if you use it too much. I found that out the hard way when I used it for nasal swelling during & after pregnancy, & an ENT had me "wean" off of it by mixing it with just nasal saline & over a 2 week time frame increasing the saline while decreasing the Afrin. That was my Afrin "rehab", lol.

No, it's not Afrin and it's not really a true addiction.

After a few days of using a decongestant nasal spray, your nasal membranes may become tolerant — or less responsive — to the effects of the medication. As a result, you may need to use more and more of the medication to control congestion or your congestion may worsen if you stop using the medication (rebound congestion). Some people mistake this as nasal spray "addiction." But it really isn't. Addiction is a compulsive physiological need for and use of a habit-forming substance known to be physically, psychologically or socially harmful.

That's ok, lol.

Hope you're able to stop using it though, whichever one it is, I know how nervewracking it is to have to constantly use it just to be able to breathe through your nose when that rebound kicks in & both nostrils are locked up like Fort Knox.

Sorry for your loss too, breast cancer is awful, took my mother.
