OT: Anybody been watchin "Next Great American Band?

Postby RocknRoll » Sat Dec 15, 2007 12:47 pm

Just wondering if anyone has been watching this show on FOX? I caught a couple of the early shows. Watching the show tonight my favorite band is gone; although I do like SixWire as one of the finalists. BTW I refuse to watch American Idol;. but I did watch a lot of the Rock Star series INXS and Tommy Lee. I actually think this is a much better format.

Sp anybody have any thoughts on this show and the contestants?

I've watched a few episodes. Sixwire is a great band, reminiscent of The Eagles with the great harmonies and multiple guitars. I hope they win. The Clark Bros. are great, but not very mainstream. That orchestra blows. I am glad those kids finally got knocked off. Good for their age, but they had no business being on the same stage with many of those bands.

Guilty.
I don't watch it religiously but if they're covering songs of artists I like, I'm there. 8)
Sixwire is amazing. I don't think they need to win. They just need the show to end so they can start making cds. I loved the original song they did a couple weeks ago was awesome.
I'd like to see the Clark Brothers go against Sixwire in the finals.

I didn't watch last Friday. I'm guessing Light of Doom was voted off?

Johnny isn't looking so good these days, IMO. Not sure what it is, but he's lost that "hotness" he used to have. :(

I love the Clark Brothers, was bummed to see Light of Doom get the boot, but they deserved it.

It's just been plain crazy here. My truck got towed and went in the shop on Tuesday. I got a kidney stone on Wednesday. Truck went back in the shop again on Thursday. One of my wife's friends died on Friday. Passed the kidney stone on Saturday.

Anyway, I left the book on my desk at work and ended up being off sick with the stone on Wednesday and then worked from home on Thursday and Friday, so I haven't made any progress on it since Tuesday.

The Sixwire guys already released one CD (I'm sorry I don't remember the label off hand), and they're all busy around Nashville in other playing situations. Most of them play in the house band on the TV show Nashville Star. The drummer is a B-level session player and also works regularly with an artisist named Phil Vasser. The electric guitar player is a very sought after songwriter and works (with the acoustic guitar player) in Randy Travis's band. They're a good group of guys....and I hope they win!!

I thought the purpose of the show was to find unknowns? Kind of ruins it for me.

Six Wire is good and the vocals are getting better each week. But I think the Clark Brothers will win for their more unique sound and the emotion the vocalist brings to the lyrics.

I'd pay to see both bands.

Holy Shit!! I didn't even read this thread before because I don't watch the show. Then I found out today that the Clark Bros. who won the contest are from right up the road from me. Image And now that I've gone back on YouTube and watched their stuff I think they're great. :D

Hey Greg and Jeremey, these kids are from Rocky Mount. How cool is that? 8)

Did you see this one, Sherrie?

I thought it was pretty sleepy myself, but Sheila E (one of the judges) couldn't even speak afterward she was crying so hard.

I didn't see that one NIG. Thanks for posting the link. I think they did something great with the song. It's almost as if they rock country but not like country rock. I know that doesn't make any sense, but I don't know any other way to say it.
