I have found some really off the wall Sci-Fi black and white movies, or some horror movies. I have found some very early movies by actors we still see today. It is fun looking thru the dollar racks, but you must have some time set aside to do a thorough search. Wal-Mart here has a big rack of them, and depending on the Dollar Tree store, their rack isn't as big.

If I had the time, and knew of the schedule, TCM has some great old movies on it. Sometimes I watch it on Sunday nights to check out the imports. Or on Friday's, they have The Underground, which shows cult movies. :D

Dollar Tree around here has been a bust for me. Mostly they stock old cartoons. I've found some okay dollar movies at Walmart though. Sometimes the local drug store too. Finding something that is watchable is like a needle in a hay stack. Sometimes the quality is pristine. Sometimes though the color or picture is so messed up you're blind for a week.

The Dollar Tree stores around here mostly have movies, and a bit of cartoons. I am waiting until after Christmas to see what Wal-Mart would have in dollar movies, since they took the rack to the back area.

I have been lucky so far as to the quality of the pictures, but a few had some sound problems, in which someone forgot to turn up the volume. What I was excited about recently was finding "Last Man On Earth" with Vincent Price. That is one of my fave horror movies.

I still have a stack of movies I need to watch someday..........

I just bought that one too, Last Man on Earth. Surprising decent copy for a dollar. There's another movie on there too, something to do with Satan overseeing some apartment building? Haven't watched it yet....

Bluray? Nah, not getting none of my money. I do need a vcr/dvd recorder to tranfer my VHS. I have an out of print BON JOVI video collection from round about 1983. I don't ever play it for fear of the tape tearing up. Any suggestions for a recorder that's good but cheap? What about my laptop? I believe it has a dvd recorder. Could I hook my vcr up to that?

I've got a friend who just started doing that - she gets DVDs from the library free and then burns them all. I need to get ripping software (can anyone recommend a good one that will go around the copyrights?) - I haven't gotten into this kind of thing yet but for as much scratch as I shell out on movies, I really need to find a cost cutting solution.

I'm gonna try that... I assume I can just do a search for that (if there's a special link, then link me up! :D ) I need one that does the shrinking thing, I've been wanting to copy a bootleg for someone and the DVD is huge - 2 shows plus all this extra b.s. - so it won't fit on a regular disc, and keep forgetting to pick up the larger DVDs (they're hard to find anyway).

I like buying movies because one, the art is often beautiful, especially on older movies, and two, as a writer I understand the value of copyright.

Hear, hear!

I'm done upgrading as well. DVD is it for me. HD & BR? Don't need it. Don't care.

My VHS collection is absolutely huge, having accumulated many over several years. It increased quite a bit once DVD's really started taking off and stores were offloading their VHS stock for next to nothing. I wound up adding a ton more to the collection. I'm building a pretty good DVD library as well, but it would cost me a fortune to replace all the VHS with DVD's. With a really high-end VCR, I don't see the reason to, but man do they take up a lot of space. Plus the fact that there are many films I own that still have not been released on DVD, so I couldn't replace them if I wanted to.

Hold it, hold it.

Stop right there.

I think an explanation's in order from Eddo.

Haha well i'm not sure if that counts as the collection. Probably counting only mainstream

It should exclude pron.

I'm almost embarassed to be posting this. You all have such extensive collections of DVD's and VHS tapes and I have just a few things. Here's my small collection of CD's and music DVD's.

Sorry, you big timers. I wish I could compete.

FYI, My porn, TV series and regular movies are kept in binders. This little old collection is just music and concert vids.

Cool, I can see you have the Rocky collection there as well. No collection is complete without the Rocky series!

Yeah, that's one of the few movies interspersed in. Mostly they are in binders too, but Rocky series needs to be displayed.
