OT: Miami Dolphins...WHOA!!!!!

Postby Enigma869 » Wed Dec 19, 2007 7:46 am

I just heard on ESPN that Huizenga turned down a $900 million dollar offer for the Dolphins! That is INSANE! How the hell can one of the worst NFL teams, in one of the worst sports cities in America be worth a billion dollars???? Jesus, what the hell are the Cowboys worth if the Dolphins are worth a billion? I think someone should tell potential buyers of the Dolphins that Dan Marino and Larry Csonka are retired and the Cleo Lemon in the Dolphins starting QB!

Precisely my point! That's how far the Dolphins have sunk...Winning ONE freakin' game is the biggest story on the planet, when it should be complete embarrassment and humiliation!

Take it easy bro!! The Dolphins are still a terrific franchise, and Miami is a Dolphin town. I do hope Huizenga sells to someone with more knowlege of the game.

First off genius, what the fuck does an owner need to know about the game? That is the worst thing a fan should hope for. Ever heard of Jerry Jones? That weasel is in every fuckin team meeting and is on the sidelines. That drove Parcells batty.

Huizanga is a business man. He is in it to make bank. Now, give me one example where a "knowledgeable owner" is a needed entity.

I agree with Dean 100% on this point! Jerry Jones is THE MOST detestable owner in sports! He is the only owner who I constantly see on the sidelines of EVERY NFL game! Owners should own and coaches should coach! That clown Jones has NEVER seemed to grasp that concept! Hell, he named himself the GM of his team, like he has the credentials because he's played football in his life! He should stay up in the owner's box, eating caviar, where his ass belongs!

As for the point of the Dolpins being a "terriffic franchise"...perhaps they are, to some people. I was simply making the point that if a team in South Florida is worth almost a billion dollars, in a city like Miami, I can't imagine what teams like the Cowboys and Chicago Bears would be worth!

Also, Mark Cuban. He is on the floor, but in a seat. To his credit, he owns and lets the coach, coach. I cannot stand the NBA, because it's 100% fraud and show, and I think it's hilarious that fans really think it's not rigged, but Cuban to me, is a great owner.

Cuban is actually the reason I specified an NFL team, only! Cuban is a nutbag, but I give the guy credit for ALWAYS trying to win! I also think Cuban should be seen less, with the rest of the billionaire owners, but I'm not sure anyone is ever going to corral that dude! I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a hockey owner's face! Hell, that fuckwad Jerry Jacobs, who owns the Bruins doesn't dear show his mug in Boston! He's too busy hiding away in Buffalo, selling hotdogs and counting his money!

An NFL owner should at the very least know enough about the game to hire loyal and competant head coaches and G.M.s. He has failed miserably at both, which is why most Dolphin fans want him to sell the team.

An even better suggestion to WH - fire CaMoron and Mueller now, then sell the team.

If the owner is gonna keep his hands in everything then it helps if he has a better understanding of the modern game, thats what Im saying, and since the early 90's Jerry Jones hasnt exactly made decisions that put his team in the Super Bowl nor held onto coaches. I dont want the owner totally involved but in todays game they are. Look at fucking Arthur Blank! The bonehead move at last Aprils draft for Miami-Cetainly a bad move from our owner giving his guidance, passing on a young QB from ND that he could have built this team around. How about the free agent pickups of Daunte Culpepper and Trent Green?? Not real lucrative moves. Right now Miami has no clear direction. Huizenga is a student of the game from the 70's, now its time to move into the 2000's and get his ass out.

Let's be frank shall we? Miami is a dirty city with so much fuckin coke, pot and every other drug, possible. Throw in a ton of unemployed "urbanites" OJ Simpson, South Beach, did I say OJ Simpson, Shaq and about a million hookers. Place is New Orleans East.

If Miami is worth a billion, Dallas would be at least 1.5. The Cowboys are America's team, at least that's how they are marketed and I would venture New England and perhaps Washington are worth more than the Dolphins.

No, that's not what I'm saying at all. This isn't about how wealthy the citizens of one city are over another. The reality is that EVERY major American city has its share of wealthy citizens. My point was that the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys have more storied histories, in the NFL than the Miami Dolphins have (their 17-0 season, notwithstanding). Now, as far as Miami's credentials as a good sports city...It's an embarrassment! As I've already stated here in the past, the south is clueless when it comes to pro sports! If there aren't frat parties involved (i.e. college) or cars driving around in circles (NASCAR), the south isn't exactly "tuned in" to its pro sports!

As far as Huizenga is concerned...I honestly don't know much about the guy. I'm not someone who thinks team owners should be involved with on the field decisions (EVER)! Team owners are team owners, because they're supposed to be successful businessmen! If they have the business acumen they're supposed to have, they should be smart enough to hire the right people to run the franchise! I can tell you this...Robert Kraft isn't picking the players the Patriots draft every April, and he certainly isn't signing free agents! He's smart enough to let Scott Pioli and Bill Bellichick run the football operations! Again, owners should keep their noses out of it, and sign the checks!

I agree. I HATE the fact that Jones has been on the sidelines almost every game since '89. This is why I miss the days of Landry and Schramm. Schramm did the marketing (was on the field every so often) and let Landry do what he did best....COACH. Even as a Cowboys fan, Jones pisses me off to no end most of the time.

Nope the Steeler's REALLY are America's team...go to ANY city...and somewhere will be a local bar that caters to Steeler's fans, and ONLY Steeler's fans...and it will be packed with Steeler's fans on any game night.

No no and no. Pittsburgh is a popular team but in no way rivals Dallas. Dallas is loved by more people and hated by more people.

By the way, the Steelers stink.

Oddly enough, Huzienga is known for buying companies, building them up and then selling the majority. He did that with Waste Management, Blockbuster and Autonation. He continues collecting on their successes but cashes out...

You do too...but I love you anways...just like I love my Steelers.

Steelers have more fans in more cities than any team...Dallas included. I am not talking the haters...I hate Dallas too. The Steelers are easily more popular than any other NFL Team. How many Steeler's shirts, coats and hats did we see at 6 Flags?

You are wrong Dean and you know it. We had this discussion when I was out in Cali, and you admitted the Steelers where more popular.

Speaking of Pittsburgh...when are you coming out?

This whole notion of "America's Team" is beyond ludicrous. First and foremost, it is beyond arrogant for ANY team to call themselves America's Team. That is a big reason why so many people LOATHE the Cowboys. More importantly, I can tell you that all the Patriots fans in New England could give a rat's ass about the Steelers and their goofy towels! I'm also pretty sure that all the Chicago Bears fans could care less about the Steelers! There is no such thing as "America's Team". If there were such a thing, it would be the Green Bay Packers, who are owned by the community they play in, and for the record, I'm not a Packers fan!

On another note, I'm hoping the Patriots draw the Steelers in the playoffs, because they're a fraud of a team! Jacksonville scares me MUCH more than Pittsburgh does! Pittsburgh has lost to some pretty bad teams this season (Denver, Arizona, The Jets), and has looked bad doing it! I can't imagine the Steelers getting out of the first round of the playoffs! They're simply not a very good team, and VERY overrated. That dope Merrill Hoge claimed they were the best team in the AFC a few weeks back (and this was after they had already lost to Denver and Arizona)! They won't beat New England...They won't beat San Diego...They won't beat Jacksonville....They won't beat the Colts...and they may not even beat Cleveland (although Cleveland's defense will make them an early exit, also)! I can tell you as a New England fan...I would look forward to smacking the Steelers all over the field again, so bring them on!

You just described the street where I live.

One thing different about Miami is the juxtaposition of wealth and poverty.

One of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the country (Fisher Island) and one of the poorest (Liberty City) are only a few miles apart.

And they proved in Pitt that they can still play their game in winter weather.

That said, I never said there weren't Steelers fans throughout the country. Who gives a fuck, really! There isn't a team in the country who doesn't have fans somewhere. I simply said the Steelers weren't "America's Team". The fact that you actually referred to them as such tells me that you're a fucking retard! They can throw them in the trash with the Cleveland Indians' fans towels. Yep, those frigging stupid towels are really effective. HAH!! I also hope that the Steelers throw themselves face down in front of the Pats . We're talking major beat down by the end of the first half. Oh the humanity!

Well, Dean is actually right. The Cowboys are marketed as America's team. In my state, there are probably more Redskins/Cowboys fans than any other fan. You'll have a few fans of other teams sprinkled in there, but you'll mostly get Redskins or Cowboys.

I also agree with Enigma. I think it's very arrogant for any team to be considered "America's team." The media has been trying to label the Patriots as the new "America's team" and I can't stand the Pats. Never have liked the idea of Dallas being America's team. I'm a huge Redskins fan, and I'd hate for that label to be bestowed to the 'skins as well. It's just another ploy by the media to sway people into picking favorites.

In regards to the Steelers being "America's team" I'd have to disagree. Although I don't mind the Steelers, I don't see very many of those fans around here nor bars dedicated to only Steelers fans. You'll see mostly Redskins bars in VA.
