John Waite song I've never heard before!

Postby G.I.Jim » Sun Dec 23, 2007 10:38 am

Hey,

Just came across this song, and wondered if anyone here's heard it? The caption on Youtube called this a Bad English song, but the image quality's pretty poor. The song's awesome, and definitely sounds like a Bad English song. Very cool!!! Too bad we'll never hear another album from them. Let the teeth jokes fly Deano!

I think it's actually a Waite song...not Bad English. This song seriously kicks ass though!

Someone in the comments indicate it was from the Days of Thunder soundtrack - just found it on Amazon. Unfortunately, the track listing doesn't list who wrote or performed on the song (other than John Waite).

Most of the days Of Thunder tracks were performed by LA studio musicians with guests singing. Case in point the awesome Coverdale song from the soundtrack.
Waite's contribution also a highlight.

This sounds more like a Bad English tune, than just Waite singing someone else's song for the movie soundtrack. Someone here's had to have heard this before? Is this a new one on you Andrew? I figured you'd know this one.

That's definitely Neal on guitar. Sounds like Cain's keyboards and it sounds like a Bad English tune.

I thought maybe this was a solo Waite song featuring Neal on guitar, but Waite and Cain formed Bad English with Ricky Phillips first, then Cain brought Neal into the mix, so this song can't pre-date Bad English. Unless it was a solo song of Waite's first, then the three of them finished it off and they just left it credited as a solo Waite tune?

Mysteries abound....

Nevermind...Just found my own answer! It's a solo song from Waite that was used from Epic for Days of Thunder. It sounds so much like a Bad English song though, it's uncanny. It was released after the 1st Bad English album. I wonder if they have any unreleased stuff out there???

Do you know if they recorded any tunes for a third album? If not, are there any demos or B-side songs laying around out there? I'd LOVE to get ahold of them if there are. They were an amazingly talented band. They just had the wrong sound at the wrong time...No Seattle grunge here!

There are a few demos, yes. Great songs too.
But there are also several more JW demoes that are incorrectly tagged as bad English demos. Those songs rule too. Great singer...pity he has lost the desire to "rock".

My favorite was, and still is, Show Me Heaven by Maria McKee. Beautiful song!

The song in question is titled "Deal For Life" and was co-written by Waite and, believe it or not, Bernie Taupin.

If you're referring to John Waite..."Temple Bar" is one of the finest solo albums ever written...wonderful songs, top to bottom, with some amazingly introspective lyrics and mesmerizing melodies. It's his finest hour artistically.

Listen to Neal's licks on the intro to this song! He is absolutely amazing! This is one of my favorite tunes they had. It's pretty "poppy", but I still like it.

Here's another one I always loved! I actually think this is my favorite BE tune. It's a lot darker than most of their stuff. It reminds me a lot of one of the tunes off of the "Lost boys" movie with Lou Graham on vocals "Lost in the Shadows". It's called "Forget me not". Here it is:

That WAS a great tune too! Too bad we never got a thrid album. I really think a lot of it had to do with their timing. This was when all the Grunge rock was coming out, and they had the "old" sound. Radio stations just turned away from music like this. Sad...
