Join us for the 17th Anniversary of Glen Burtnik's Xmas Xtravaganza. Born at a small club in New Jersey in the late 80's, this annual holiday concert revue of seasonal musical performances has grown larger each year, evolving into a New York-New Jersey area tradition not to be missed. It features a colorful cast of characters which changes from year to year, but in the past has included such luminaries as Patty Smyth, John McEnroe, Phoebe Snow, Billy Squier, Marshall Crenshaw, The Patti Smith Band, Billy J. Kramer, Fred Schneider (B-52's), Jill Sobule, Idina Menzel, Jeffrey Gaines, Freedy Johnston, Steve Augeri (Journey), Dan Bern, John Waite, Curtis Stigers, STYX, Mary Lee Kortes, and Willie Nile, among others. Shows have been sold out for the past five years running.

"It's a celebration of the music of the season," says Burtnik, "which I've always found a magically effective genre. Once I realized it was a worthwhile undertaking, I decided it'd be most appropriate to the spirit of the show to give the profit to people in need. A lotta people need help in this world, and when I began the show, the focus was on distant countries (Band Aid, We Are The World). But I also know there are political complications - I once read a convincing article suggesting much of the food sent as a result of Live Aid ended up rotting in warehouses due to the politics of the region. Hence, I chose to go with the old adage 'Charity Begins at Home,' in the hopes of helping people near where I live."

Glen Burtnik's Xmas Xtravaganza is a charity event. All performers are volunteer and all net proceeds go to benefit area food banks and other charitable organizations. Audience members are encouraged to contribute warm clothes, new toys, and canned food for those less fortunate.

I could sort of make that!

I would go just to throw rotten eggs at Billy Squier for wearing a pink tank top.

its actually a MySpace page-- www.myspace.com/steveaugeristreetteam read the blog.

Either way, it is still NOT official. As it STATES ON the Myspace page you are referring to: " This space has no affiliation with the band Journey or Steve Augeri. We're just some devout fans spreading the love. If you would like to help in doing so, please by all means hop on the bus!"

The unfortunate part of the whole thing is that Steve Augeri took alot of heat, ridicule, bad feelings and vibes over the past year or so.
I personally never felt that he deserved any of it as I have always thought of hin as a class act. I can understand completely how he would not
want to be in the spot light and bring everythng back out in the open again.
Unfortunately there are ALOT of people out there myself included that supported him and continue to support him. and given everything that has happened I don;t think that he knows or realizes that.
Even those that tried to defend him over the past year or so on line
were given the same kind of treatment which is too bad.
There are people out here that still support and supported him
over the years, and it is too bad he does not know that.
People are in different situations, which is purely their business, not mine., and irregardless of online, personal or whatever relationships, there are are people that do support him and hope and wish him well.
Not looking for any personal information or to dredge up the past, just wish him well and that he knows people do still support him.

Keep in mind the shock of a band actually using tapes caused major outrage. As fans, we found out that it happened, but not WHY it happened. That's Schon, Cain and Azoff for you.

They through Steve under the bus and deceived the fanbase. We now know better.

Best wishes to S.A. and a Happy Holiday. Hope to here something from you down the line. I'll buy a CD from you before a Journey one any day.

I agree. I will buy a cd from him long before I by anything else from the band.
I just think that it is too bad that things had to happen the way that they did. I can understand why he would feel upet and hurt by the reaction of the fans to things and the things that were and have been posted about him online. I just think that it is too bad that it makes it hard to separate the people that feel that way and the people that still support and did support him. I think to and for him to lump everyone in that same catagory of people that are out to trash and bash him is too bad.
I never expected any information personal or inside or whatever regarding what happened. I do understand that people are in different situations and are able to hear, know do or attend things that the general fanbase is not which is cool. Whatever, that is thier business, like I said. I have more than enough things going on in my own life right now.
I just think that it is too bad that the people that did and do support him and stuck by him, over the past year or so, had to endure the same treatment on the internet. Not everyone fits neatly into the catagory that
wants to bash or trash him, and there are people out there despite
their situation that did and do support him. It is too bad he does not realize that.

I wish I would have handled my posts better. I have no clue if he reads here, but I have apologized and will again anytime. And I don't apologize to anyone.

That's what you get though when you have cowards like Schon and Cain willing to throw a nice guy under the bus.

Where is he saying that he thinks all Journey fans hate him now? If he isn't performing regularly right now, its probably due to either he is still getting himself back into shape vocally or there just haven't been any lucrative enough opportunities. I think we as fans need to be patient. During his eight years with Journey he resurrected his singing career. I doubt he will just let that all slip away again.

That's a bit more high profile - give it a day or two. Was just told it was "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire"

Hell I need to go to this Burtnik thing next year. Not that far away.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I personally have not read orheard anything about him thinking that the Journey fans hate him. It seems that the common consensus is that
he is not making these appearances or info about them public.
It has been said that is because it is to avoid dredging up and rehashing the old issues and things of the past and how he was treated on the internet.
I can understand that thinking and why on his part.
I may be wrong in my interpretation, however short of dredging up the past and creating the same internet situation, it would have been nice to have known about some of these performances, such as Glenn Burtnik;s show, as that is a public event that is done every year. Heck if I had the money I would and could have gone. It seems to me that the comments being made about him trying to avoid internet problems etc, he is not realizing that there are people that DO still support him. It seems like he is trying in a way to avoid the "Journey" fans per say because of the things that were said about him on the internet over the last year.
I never personally said any of those things about him and I did try to support him online. I took as well as alot of others, ALOT of heat for it.
I can be patient for his solo cd etc, and I comp;etely understand that some events are for charity and private and invitation only etc and I would never expect to be a part of that as I know I am not that important.
I just think that some people are still out there that did and do still support him iregardless of whether or not they are at that "level of importance."
and it would be nice for him to realize that and that not everyone that is or was a Journey fan was out to bash him. It is not just those at that "level of importance" so to speak that did and do support him.
The bottom line is that we are not being told anything and then we are seeing these things on the internet about certain performances. I would have been more than willing to attend this show this evening had I known.
Does not make any sense to me. I just think it is too bad that he does not realize that people do still support him. I also wish I had known about tonite.

If I had to bet.....I would bet that he knows there are alot of people that support him. I don't think he was ever that big on following all things Journey online so while I suppose he probably knew some of what was being said.....my guess is that he avoided most of it.

But there are still enough people in contact with him that I'm sure he knows he still has many devoted fans. JMO.

And Maria is right....this GB show is an annual thing and they never announce who the guests will be. So I'm sure that's why we didn't hear about it.

I have been to GB;s show a long time ago, 2003 I think it was when it was still in New York. I do seem to recall that it was announced that SA was going to be there and perform a week or so ahead of time, I think it was actually posted on line. I know I have emailed them in the years after that and they usually do not know who will be there and have stated that.
I just found it interesting that we did not hear about it until it was over with.
Even a maybe would have been cool. I guess I assumed after the last gig in nov we might have heard. A maybe or slight chance would have been cool to know. I do understand it was a charity show and not an actual solo performance. Still would have been nice to have supported him and what he was trying to do. No hidden agenda here, just looking to show support for him and his charity work, and that there are still people that support him. Not looking to stalk the guy or for any inside info. Just would have been cool or nice to have some kind of slight hint that he might show up, or whatever, so the general/average fan that does not still talk to him or whatever would be able to show support for the guy as well as the cause he was supporting. Not looking to step on toes or whatever. Other people besides those that still talk to him or whatever do still support him.
Have always admired SA for his charity work. That was cool of him to help out a charity at this time of year. All the best to him in what ever he does.

Hopefully, Steve is just getting through the holidays and letting Journey name a new singer, then we'll hear something from him. If he weren't interested in singing at all, I don't think he'd participate in the charity events because those are still opportunities for the TG topic to come up between other artists or those fans that might have access to the performers.

I can certainly understand if he has some concern out going out again, but unlike a couple of the previous posts, most of the world has no idea that they used tapes because his voice was shot. The average fan or impulse ticket buyer who remembers hearing and loving Journey when they were in high school or wherever doesn't know anything about the last 24 months in the life of Journey/Augeri/Soto. I mean all you have to do is listen to the supposed PR the band is doing where Arnel brings up Perry. The band's aim is to make the average person who doesn't know the history think that Perry's gone and Arnel is the new guy, not #4.

If I am to understand correctly, Steve performed "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" last night. Good for him!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would love to hear it.

Sorry AR... I meant the supposed Florida show. Maybe I was confused, but I thought that was what "floridajourney" was referring to. Thanks for the info on the holiday show.

Confirmation of Steve's Gigs

Postby xflajrnylvr » Mon Dec 24, 2007 9:45 am

Copy of an email i got from very good freind of mine who hung out with Steve and lydia Last weekend

"Yes, indeed he did. It was some gig in Hollywood Florida for charity. Not sure if it was the same one he did a few years back in Florida (drug rehab charity?) or something else. He sang a number of Journey songs and did terrific.
He also is doing a benefit for homeless and hungry people in New Jersey this week with Glenn Burtnik.
He will be doing one for JTTC in Illinois this spring.
We were able to hang out with him and Lydia last weekend and they are very happy and very healthy."

It looks like Steve really is getting back out there. Happy to know that and I hope something pops up on youtube.
