Just when you think he is going to go off on one it just STOPS, you think its going to be an epic . . and then nothing, shortest solo ever surely.

Sometimes less is more, and this is the kind of song that doesn't deserve a 2 minute solo.

That's Perry controlling the creativity again. Guarantee you Neal wanted to do more. Still a good song, but yes, there could have been more without hurting the overall song structure.

I actually really like this solo. Its very short but powerful, and fits well with the rest of the song. I liken it to his solo with "When I see You Smile" . It just flows very well with the song.

I remember reading years and years ago some critique of Neal (TV show or magazine, can't remember), saying that one of the things most impressive about him was his ability to restrain his playing to serve the song, and not try to steal the show every time. He gave each musician room to shine. Again, this was years and years ago, during the Perry era.

"When You Love A Woman" is one of my very favorite ballads, perhaps second only to WCTNGOF. Neal's guitar solo is also one of my favorites, very emotional and searing, yet he still can through some of his signature runs and blends in at the end.

Too short? No way, not with the string interlude coming first... unbelievably tasteful work and I also agree that it's probably Journey's strongest ballad, along with Faithfully. Neal's guitar tones on this track are great too (love those glassy clean fills as well as the lead tone)

Exactly. This is classic SP/Journey ballad. Jon's piano lead in and out. Neal's guitar blend and Smitty's drum fills. Ross.... lol, I'm not a musician, can't pick out the bass. The chorus, most excellent, climaxing with SP's soaring vocals towarding the ending. Love-love-love this song.

I lucked out with this one! I have a friend who's the morning personality at a major radio station in town. He gave me an advance copy of the entire cd! I was LOVING the hell out of that album! I must say though, that the album is by far my favorite. I actually liked Arrival better. I guess the "Signature sound" had just changed so much with Perry's new vocals for my ears.

I thought the songs on Arrival were so much closer to what I expect a Journey album to sound like. Looking back now, I really enjoy the album. It's more mature than the rest, but it sounds great in it's own way.

That's my two cents!

He is a good guitarist. His off stage decisions leave a lot to be desired, I'll give you that, but you can't deny that the man is very talented.

Exactly. Neal Schon is immensely talented. He's not good at all. He's amazing, phenomenal, one-in-a-million. I'd take him over any other guitarist... except perhaps Page, Petrucci, Lukather, Lifeson, and a handful of few others.
