infinity before infinity?

Postby Chrismo » Sat Dec 29, 2007 12:51 pm

wondering if any of you guys have heard about this...

a customer of mine came in and we got into a discussion about pre-perry journey. he said that he had bought an album, or heard it, right before infinity came out. he said gregg rolie was doing all the vocals, and the album had "lights" "feeling that way" and "anytime", but he didn't think it had "wheel in the sky" on it. he said that after perry joined, the album was re-worked with perry's vocals and infinity came out.

does anyone know what he is referring to? i thought it would be "next", but the track listing contains none of the "infinity" tracks.

Sounds like your customer is wrong!

Though there are some versions floating around of a few of the Infinity tunes before Perry joined, none of this material was officially released back then. Time3 contains an early version of "Feelin' That Way", before Perry changed it up a bit and added his vocals, but though it was recorded before Infinity, it wasn't released until the early 90's.

Also, your customer mentioned that "Lights" was one of the tunes he heard. That's impossible, as Perry brought that tune to the band (he and Schon finished it up), so "Lights" didn't exist in Journey before Perry was on board.

I don't think so, but I've seen videos on Youtube with Fleishman singing those tunes. Here's him singing Winds of March...

I agree 100%. Didn't care for his vocals at all. Hiring Perry was the best thing they could have EVER done with this band.

Unbelievable. How could they have fired a guy with pipes like Fleischman in exchange for a no-talent hack like Perry? I mean, Fleischman's unbelievable work on the first Vinnie Vincent Invasion album...especially the title track, invasion...

"Invasion!
You are armed with ecstasy!
Invasion!"

The man is an absolute genius. Journey could have gone places if they hadn't made the terrible mistake of firing him.

No official Journey songs were ever released album-wise with his vocals on them, but a song he had with Journey called "For You" was released on his solo album "Perfect Stranger" from '79 with the name "All For You". Neal and Gregg are both playing on the track. The Journey demo of it is featured on Time3.

As I understand it the Journey version of For You is the finished track, not the demo.

True not officially released until '92.
