Arnel Pineda: The new lead vocalist of Journey

Postby journey123 » Sun Dec 30, 2007 3:32 pm

Let me start by saying hello to everyone, I come in peace.

Let's just give Arnel Pineda a chance. It's not his fault if he was chosen, after all, he was contacted by Journey members to audition and not the other way around. Some commented here, that it's a little different having a Filipino in Journey band. But now, as they happily claimed, they can refer themselves as "world band". West meets East or East meets West if you like.

Filipinos had contributed to American Entertainment as well - either "pure" or mixed Filipino American/British/Irish etc... lineage. They are quiet but they're passionate and dedicated about what they do.

Ever heard of Allan Pineda, a member and co-founder/song writer of Black Eyed Peas? Chad Hugo, a Filipino, is a member of N.E.R.D band. Although not in the same league as Journey of course but they are good in their own fields.

Here's some more:

Filipino (Philippines) American

Known Filipino (Philippines

Just ignore Imelda Marcos okay.

Here's a little summary from wikipedia:

Ok, here's what I think. You are new to posting here - so let me sum up current sentiment for those new comers like yourself....

I hope I speak for everyone on this board when I say that no one has a problem with Filipino people here. Good luck to Arnel. He's a lucky guy.

Some most definitely have a problem with the new singer, but I believe those problems would be the same regardless if the singer was from Lower Uzebekistan or Upper Manhattan. Those problems stem from the manner in which the last 2 singers have been delt with by the band.
Moving on to something different is not a problem, but how you do it can certainly make for either a bumpy ride, or an easy transition.

The ball is in Journey's court - they need to blow us all out of the water with this next album. I believe that the band have secured a frontman that will safely allow them to tour as they have been and the casual fan will probably not care who was singing....but die-hards like us here - those that will still purchase new Journey music (let's face it, the majority of concert goers won't) - we are all waiting to see what Arnel and the band can do.
The band needs a classic album to keep the long time fans interested as it has been one hell of a ride these past few years.
I'm curious and looking forward to hearing this.

So bring it on....Good luck Arnel...Good luck Journey...PLEASE deliver one kick ass album.

Cheers mate. I'm Filipino British. I absolutely didn't post this at all to make any arguments whatsoever about race, I just thought it may help clear things up a little bit about what Filipinos had contributed. That Arnel is not just a one off entertainer from the Philippines.

But certainly, I do feel for you. Anyone would be disappointed/hurt/angered from the alleged manner of termination of JSS. Just strongly feel that Arnel is not to blame for this.

The only worry is, Arnel as he clearly stated, never intended to replace what Steve Perry had done. Nor does he intend to match him in the way he sings or performs. And for this reason, expectations on him should be not that of Steve Perry or any of the lead singers. Steve Perry is unique - the one and only. Unfortunately, he already made it clear that he (Steve) will not perform with Journey (perhaps for now).

Nevertheless, let's all hope that he performs well. Support from everyone is all he needs. It boosts your confidence and makes you perform "all the better". Who knows what the future holds. It may even attract new fans worldwide young and old. That would be fantastic, won't it?

Just hope they include London in the list of their Euro Tour.

And so the Journey continues...

That's very cool mate - welcome to the board. A little cultural enlightenment is good for everyone now and then...
I don't think anyone here wants race to be a part in any argument about this or any other band and I trust it will stay that way.

The Philippines is a huge country (population wise) and I can't say I've been there, only Singapore (several times) and Indonesia. Both I enjoyed wholeheartedly. I love nothing more than travelling and believe everyone should experience as many cultures and places as they can in their lifetime. Helps give perspective and also helps one appreciate their home base even more.

Cheers for now...

Disneyland Paris is lovely and the city is indeed fantastic. But would love to try Florida. I'm probably more excited than them actually. :D

one word of advice...If you do come to Disneyworld, DON'T do it in the summer! It may be hot in Australia, but it's a miserable sticky hot down here in the summertime! I'm about 6 hours north of Disneyworld, and even here it gets 105-110 degrees (with 95 percent humidity!). I'd either come in the fall, or really early in the spring. JMHO!

Advise much appreciated mate. We're off late winter here. Flights, villa and transport all booked.

It should be pretty decent weather in late winter. probably upper 70's. Maybe even into the lower 80's. Good time to come!

So long as it's bright and sunny. that would be fine. Wouldn't cope in extreme heat (40C is a bit too much for me) and humidity. But when we travelled in Dubai it was fab.

We might get booted out by mods here. We're a little out of the subject matter now.

Moving on.

We really do need the melodic rock's full support on Journey and the new frontman Arnel Pineda.

I can't speak for Andrew, but Journey's ALWAYS had Andrew's support. Even after they dissed their last 2 lead singers. Like (most of us here), we just want to see the band release a kick-ass cd, maybe a great live dvd, and do a high energy tour with Arnel! As long as he can work the crowd and remember his lines, I don't think you'll hear much complaining in here.

Notice I say "much". Some of the people in here claim to hate Journey and will never support them in any of their future efforts. Yet they still come into a JOURNEY forum day after day! I don't get it, but I think Journey will do great with Arnel.

You're not a Filipino by any chance, are you?

Kidding aside. Forgetting the line would just do him great harm. Let's hope he doesn't, considering he'd been playing their songs for ages. But if nerves get on him on the big day, then problem may arise indeed.

He's used to foreigners though having worked in bars in Hongkong (ex British colony) with a considerable number of British population and holiday maker. But clearly not in the same magnitude he will potentially encounter in the coming year.

Not a good quote, that was made famous by the alien saying it but as the movie progressed, it turns out the alien was actually out to kill everyone.

But hey, yeah I'm hoping and wishing for the best for Arnel and I hope that his time with Journey is a long and prosporous one. I'm very excited to hear how he does on the new album that's supposed to be coming out soon. If it's hella good as I am hoping and anticipating it will be, I'll purchase up a hand full of copies and give them out to a lot of my friends and family. I'll do this because I knew him a long time ago and these friends and family knew this because I would always talk about my experiences when I would come back to the U.S. to visit.

Cheers buddy. glad to be here.

I do feel there is a more relaxed atmosphere here now from what it was like over the las few weeks.

How's Liverpool anyway? Are you set for the Capital Culture of 2008 preparations mate?

It definitly has calmed down, tbh i think there are quite a few people who are excited or curious about this album, so there all waiting until then.

Well the city still has cranes everywere at the moment, i tihnk the official start is mid January, so they are going to have to rush to get things ready in time. Living in the heart of the city at the moment so there should be some good nights ahead :)
