OT-what song or album totally ruined a band for you?

i have to say that when guns n roses released that crappy song for the end of days soundtrack that i immediately started wishing for axl to reform the old lineup because the present one will never live up to the standards the original one holds....

when aerosmith released get a grip i liked some of the songs but they just about killed me with all the poppy ballads on it and cheesy videos.....

i never really cared for the gary cherone era of van halen or the van halen mach 3 album.really liked gary in extreme but not with eddie and company.....

when poison got rid of cc deville and released native tongue with richie kotzen they had a more serious sound and turned their back on what got them there in the first place....

when def leppard released slang in '96 that record was like a left field surprise.it sounded nothing like the stuff that they usually released.sort of sounded like alternaleppard.....

who in the world ever thought metallica would do a bob seger song.i like the original seger turn the page a hell of a lot better....

motley crue when they released the awful generation swine album.another metal band trying to sound alternative and it didn't quite work......

billy squier and the enough is enough album.never could get used to it.after that album in '86 i stuck with don't say no and emotions in motion.

I agree with you except for the Slang and Native Tongue records, both of which I consider to be those bands' best albums...of course, Poison more or less sucks with the exception of their 5-6 power ballads. Slang was fantastic.

Otherwise I'm with you.

My vote would have to go with "Boston's" Corporate America. The late, great Brad Delp was the most under-utilized voice in the history of rock, and it's a shame that the once-brilliant Scholzie put out this pile of crap in what turned out to be Brad's swan song.

Van Halen 3 was pretty bad but I enjoyed the tour. The only VH show I ever got to see (no way I could afford the recent reunions...greedy fucks). Cherone is an amazing frontman, no matter what band he's singing for.

Native Tongue is the only Poison album I can actually listen to. They're a horrendous band but Kotzen rips.

I really liked Def Lep's Slang...it's a really unique, creative record with some great songs on it.

Oasis' Don't Believe The Truth may have done it in for me and that band...always one of my favorites growing up but man, that was a shitty record.

I used to be a HUGE Dream Theater fan, but their last three albums have really left me cold. I can't pinpoint it to one specific album, but the last three studio records haven't clicked with me at all....I've pretty much given up on them, sadly.

pearl jam did some pretty oddball stuff with no code.that was their lets get rid of the ten million fans who love alive and evenflow and get a cult audience only album.

Motley Crue - Generation Swine

Back in 96' I watched them do one of the songs from the album on the Tonight Show with Leno. At that time Grung was completely stinking up the music world so I was pretty happy to hear something that half ass resembled Rock & Roll the way I prefered it to be. The album turned out to be a real piece of shit in my opinion. The song they did on Leno sounded great because it was live when it was televised. I was anticipating that the entire cd would consist of lots of similar rock. Fuck was I ever wrong! They actually seemed to try and do grung on the album. Big let down.

yep me and a buddy watched that same show leno with motley in '96.hoping like hell they wouldn't start doing alternative crap on their new album.i respect it better now but back then i absolutley fucking despised anything grunge or alternative.

Pearl Jam sucks donkey balls. Stone Gossard is a lousy player and Beddie Wetter last sang a note on-key in 1994. Awful...except for "Given to Fly" and "Nothingman".

I'm also shocked at the TBF reference. That was Journey's crown jewel, and would have been considered their best record if SP hadn't had "back problems" and they'd toured it. I remember in December of '96, at one point, VH'1 GH was the #1 record in America, Aerosmith was at #2, and TBF was #3.

I saw them twice in '06 and they sold 40,000 or so tickets, 15 years after "Alive" and "Even Flow." Not many early 90's bands can say that, so they must've done something right.

I have wondered that about him... Hmmm.... As for a song that completely ruined a band for me?? It wasn't a rock band, it was Garth Brooks. Yes, back in the day, I used to like Garth. Then "Friends in Low Places" came out. Holy crap! The kicker stations here played the crap outta that song. I can barely stand to look at him now.

I wouldn't say "completely ruined" but definitely dented the image

Babe, First Time, and Mr. Roboto. All from Styx and all from Dennis Deyoung. Those songs instantly made knocked that band down a peg.
Babe was tolerable. The other two were embarrassing.

That's because his fat, talentless ass is so huge that you can't see all of him unless you're standing 50 feet away. His top four most popular songs were written by other people, and he can only play chords on an acoustic guitar. He's exemplary of the complete lack of talent in the country genre...although I have to admit, he is a great showman, having been dragged to one of his shows by an ex-girlfriend of mine who was born in Mississippi.

I saw them in atlanta on that tour (having seen them twice with hagar prior, and once since) and I must say, for the sheer rockability of Cherone, they totally went the wrong direction with that album

If I were to say an album that ruined a band....I'd have to go with (as just ONE example of many) "This Left Feels Right" by Bon Jovi. Anyone who goes about trying to re-do they're classic hits to cash in on it....is just wrong to me. Twisted sister did it too....Quiet Riot (God rest Dubrow) did it..... I'm just thankful that Journey isn't....oh...wait....spoke too soon.

7 I gotta disagree on a couple of things. The dude has so much money because of his lack of talent that, his grandchildrens grandchildrens grandchildren will not ever be able to spend it all. The dude also won so many awards that he needs a second house just to keep them in. Don't get me wrong here, I'm just stating what has been written and seen in interviews. I'm not particularly a fan but he does have some good songs out there that stand up.
