Randy Jackson is one of the most-demanded studio bassists in music history, having played on God-knows-how-many records. Only a select few like Tony Levin, Lee Sklar, and that Porcaro feller have been more prolific than our spandex-wearing, yeah-dawgging friend Randy Jackson.

This is really a diverse group. In my opinion, Ross is about the blandest bass player I've ever heard. Randy is a much better bass player and really gets down and you can actually HEAR the bass, listen to his solo on ROR's Be Good to Yourself.

My sentiments exactly. No one's saying Ross is better than Randy Jackson but Ross is not by far a poor bassist. He does his job without being noticed and that's usually all you ask of a bassist.

Randy is a much better bass player and really gets down and you can actually HEAR the bass, listen to his solo on ROR's Be Good to Yourself.

Hearing the bass isn't about who is a better player. There are bands I can think of where you can hear the bass on the albums but that doesn't mean the bassist is any good.

Steve Perry was 50/50 on his ROR-era decisions. Great move in booting Ross, but poor move in booting Smitty.

If Schon wants to continue Journey on forever as a franchise, the way he's kinda been doing, it'd be a good idea to boot Ross eventually and put in either Schutt or Mendoza, or maybe even Marcel Jacob as a new four-stringer. Ross is the oldest guy in the band, ain't he?

yea Deb...Marco Mendoza is a monster musician.. he is equal with all those hot shot guitar players from the 80's with the bass.. what he can do is unbelievable!

I didn't know much about him or SS at all when I saw him with JSS and Neal at Lofflers/Anaheim last January and was blown away. After hearing "Praise" that night, quickly looked up the SS catalogue, I love the bass and drum sound on a lot of the SS stuff. Actually come to think of it both Gary and MM played bass at that show.

Also had my first and last Jaegerbombs that weekend too. Damn you Deano!

Why would I "just type" that? There's a list somewhere on a site that I frequent that has a list of all of the different albums Randy Jackson has played on, and they number well into the hundreds... at least. If I remember the statistics correctly, Randy has played on something like 200 different albums that have went at least gold. He's played with Springsteen, Blue Oyster Cult, Journey, Steve Perry solo, Mariah Carey, Stryper, Bon Jovi, and an assload of others.
