Too bad for Mr. White that it won't translate into him being the first, second, or third QB chosen in the NFL draft!

Don't care.

Watered-down boring league with too much fraternizing and zero real rivalries anymore.

I hate to break the news to you JoePa, but outside of college sports, there aren't any "real rivalries" in ANY sports! I think the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry has always been the best in sports, and I can tell you that it's NOTHING like it was back in the 70's and 80's! Players simply change teams too much, and it's just never going to be what it was. Even in college sports, with so many players leaving college, after a year or two, it's left fans just rooting for laundry. There isn't enough time to build up any loyalty to players, so it's all about the name on the front of the jersey! Unfortunately, that's never going to change.

Even the rivalries in college are strictly manufactured by each school's student body, alumni, and "subway alumni"! The Joe Paternos and Bobby Bowdens of the world are few and far between. Most coaches change teams as often as players cycle in and out of programs, so I really don't think college is much different than the pro game. One might be able to make the argument that the college game is "more pure", but anyone who really pays attention to college sports knows that's a crock of shit! A lot of the players are on the take and being payed, by unscrupulous agents, looking to land their next big client! I've seen far more scandals in college sports, over the years than I've seen in pro sports (and I've seen plenty in pro sports)! Guys like Joe Paterno, who I truly believe has integrity and runs a clean program, are an anomaly!

Not breaking anything to me, Johnno...

that's exactly why I prefer college football and basketball to the pros.

John, need to disagree a little. The Toronto Maple Leafs v Montreal Canadians is huge in Canada as is Edmonton v Calgary, the Battle of Alberta. EVERY game is so revved up...despite some players coming and going. Perhaps that example proves that there is much more real passion in hockey rather than the NFL. NBA has no real passion. I do think NYY v Red Sox is damned good, although I am sick of it. LA Dodgers v SF Giants is quite good two, despite shitty organizations.

Ahhhh, nothing better...........such a rivalry. LOL even our mayors used to go against each other and make the losing one do something or other (wear the opposing Jersey to work, etc.) :D

You will NEVER see me where either of those Alberta sweaters. Both those teams hate Vancouver. You know, the better, glitzier, more beautiful city that both those scrubby clubs look up to. :)

Hey back off sister. I like what Zook has done. I HATE SC more than anyone alive. I just think they are without a doubt, the best program in CFB, hands down. I wish they weren't in our conference. That being said, the Illini will be back, but that Big Ten is pathetic. Top to bottom, pathetic. Minnesota losing to North Dakota State? Northwestern-awful. Iowa sucked cock along with Indiana. Penn St will always have my respect because of JoePa, but let's be honest..they weren't that good. Awful OOC schedule and average in Big Ten. Mich State sucks and Michigan was a joke. They beat Florida easily, so what does that tell you? Ohio State backed in. You cannot tell me they are better than SC or Georgia. LSU should crush them.

Dean...I should have qualified my statement to limit my opinion to sports in this country! As I said, I've been to Canada before, and have NEVER, EVER, EVER been anyplace where EVERYONE loves hockey so much. It would stand to reason when you have an entire country who is hockey-crazed, that there would still be some pretty heated rivalries. Having said that, I still doubt it's the same as it was when a guy like Guy LaFleur played in Montreal, FOREVER. I've ALWAYS hated EVERY team from NY, but when the players change every single season, the rivalry simply loses a little something. I was able to allow my hatred for Bucky Dent, Thurmon Munson, and Lou Piniella build, over many years!

The Dodgers/Giants rivalry is a VERY good rivalry. Remember, both of those teams have their roots in New York, and moved west at the same time, so that rivalry spans a whole lot of years, over a whole lot of miles! I actually remember a Dodgers/Giants series that was the last series of the season (probably 10-15 years ago). I believe the Giants had to win two games to get into the playoffs, and I believe the Dodgers swept them, with nothing on the line for the Dodgers, as they weren't going to the playoffs. It was one of the best three game series that I've ever seen in baseball!

Doesn't matter John, The NHL is on the rise and they do play here in the States too. Detroit v Chicago is awesome; always filled with juice. Islanders v Rangers is good. Pittsburgh v Flyers. Even the Ducks v Kings is real good now. Vancouver versus Colorado is as good as any, with the Bertuzzi shit and the quality of those teams...

I don't see 49er fans getting all pumped up with the thought of a Raider rivalry. Or Jacsonville v Miami stirring up any folks.

You DO have a point there John. The rivalries aren't quite as intense as they used to be. You're right, harder to keep up when they are changing all the time. Iggy and Conroy back together here reminds of the old days a bit.

Detroit vs. Chicago? Not since the early '90's. They've been pathetic too long. The Wings vs. Avs was great when Colorado was a powerhouse. The Wings have no meaningful rivals anymore. That would change immediately if the NHL had the common sense to put the Wings in the Wales... err, Eastern Conference so they could play Toronto and Montreal. They've completely screwed the pooch there.

Careful now.
That's what Penn State thought in 2005 going 11-1.

9-4 in '06.

Goddammit RF. Watch the fucking games why don't you? Chicago has owned the Wings this year. Without looking, CHI is unbeaten against the always great regular season/shitty playoff Red Wings.

Yes, DET/COL was awesome. Remember Patty Roy went to centre ice and cold cocked Shanny? Then Hasek got all riled up and attempted to dance with Patty. Not a wise idea. Patty was a mean SOB.

The regular season is pretty irrelevent. I work 2nd shift and usually only get to catch weekend games. You're saying Chicago is a force this year? Um, no. Come playoff time they will not be a factor.
Rockindeano wrote:Without looking, CHI is unbeaten against the always great regular season/shitty playoff Red Wings.

If the '97,'98,'02 shitty playoff Red Wings are shitty, then what are the 0'fer since their existence Vancouver Cashmucks? Jump on the Wings bandwagon dude. Even the salary cap couldn't slow them down. To be truthful, I thought it would destroy them. :D
Rockindeano wrote:Yes, DET/COL was awesome. Remember Patty Roy went to centre ice and cold cocked Shanny?

That was great. Do you remember how that game and season ended?
Rockindeano wrote:Then Hasek got all riled up and attempted to dance with Patty. Not a wise idea. Patty was a mean SOB.

 Huh? Hasek? Hasek didn't come to the Wings til 5 years later!!!!!
That was little Mike Vernon that whipped Roy's ass and cut him over his left eye. The following year Chris Osgood whipped Roy's ass at center ice en route to another cup. :D

[quote="ScarabGator"]Well now, isnt this some shit of a thread. How anyone can call the Heisman winner overhyped obviously didnt see him this season. He had one average game yesterday and now he sucks.

Well... now you know how the Buckeyes feel.

One bad (or average) game does not define the greatness of a team.

All you doubters...TUNE IN on Monday and watch Ohio State.

Nuff said.

I know some inside NHL peeps and they told me this. They don't want to do this every year, so the luster won't rub off, but Gary Bettman does. Here is the possiblities they are considering:

DET @ TOR at Skydome
?? @ Boston at Fenway
DET @ CHI at Soldier Field

Maybe a game at PNC park in Pittsburgh.
