Well, let me preface my comments by saying I'm not from Australia, and aside from Olivia Newton-John and The Bee Gees, I don't know any other Australian singers. That said, I honestly didn't find the guy's performance in that youtube clip to be anything even remotely remarkable. Now, it's entirely possible that this particular clip doesn't do the guy justice. I happen to be a fan of The Little River Band's music (at least some of it). I just don't believe based on that clip, he's even in the ballpark of being called "the other voice", but hey, that's just one guy's opinion!

Yep, very good voice....always liked that song too. 8)...but wouldn't say he is the "other voice", though.

Looks to me like he's taken a lesson or two from "The Voice".
"as long as they have to carry DSB as their banner, it looks like Perry will be right there with them as an overseer, ready to wield his veto power on all things Classic Journey." As quoted by Don on 12/7/2010

I would assume it was him, if it was 1982. According to something I read, he replaced Glenn Shorrock as the lead vocalist in The Little River Band from 1981 to 1984. I just didn't think that particular clip showcased anything remotely remarkable about the guy's voice.

Well that clip didn't didn't do too much, but take a look at the others on youtube - he still sounds the same, he hasn't lost his voice like many others his age.

Andrew would agree. Take a listen to this, I don't see Perry out there, and that's why I think Farnham is far better than Perry, not mention he had more success but he's still out there.

A pillock??? (had to look it up first) - don't think so - MH was anything but stupid. Troubled maybe, bad choices maybe, but definitely not stupid. And I agree with Deb - Australia's best.

Great taste Lar, love that song too. I'll have to get their Live one. Lately I've been collecting Greatest video hits dvds from some of my favorite bands. Pretty much started with Journey's and Bon Jovi's a few years back. It's cool to see how some have come a long way since their earlier videos. And was quite surprised when watching Inxs' that I'd forgotten that some of those songs were theirs. Mr. Big is one of my favorites, gawd they had some great songs/videos. :) Love the old black and white movie feel of this one and all the candles........Eric Martin's raw vocals and getting all that face time didn't hurt either......LOL I can just see JoePa cringing.  Gawd I love the 80s and 90s for music........I just can't escape that melodic rock.

At the end of the day, it's always okay if you think anyone is better than Perry. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. As for the "he had more success" line...That's an entirely different issue. He very well may have had more success in your homeland of Australia, but I can assure you that he's not even close to Perry in the U.S., in terms of albums sold (and for the record, I'm referring to Perry with Journey). I also suspect that Steve Perry is probably a bit more well known than Farnham is, around these parts.

Yeah, I certainly don't think there is many better than Perry, but Perry has retired long ago - so it's hard to say you know. But when Perry was singing in 81 and 83 - he certainly was the best in my opinion. But hey know man, to me it seems Journey and Farnham are not too well know world wide. I know some parts of America, the oldies know or remember Journey, while in other places they are like "Who"? It's like that in Australia, people are uneducated. But a band like Metallica, everyone know these guys, or Queen.

Damn, you must have ESP there darlin! Yes, I had my daughter in 1990 and missed a bunch of music in the early 90s, totally missed Perry's FTLSM era, first time I heard of Perry again was when I heard When You Love A Woman on the radio in 97..............and was like "holy sh!t, that's Perry! He still sounds fantastic!".

Ha, Rick Springfield never even crossed my mind. He's Australia's version of Greg Kihn. :D

Here's a band called Frickin A that covered "Jessie's girl" with a cameo by RS. Sounds same as the original to me.

Great clip there. Nice tone on that guitar.

Barnes has a Brian Johnson quality to his voice without having to scream. His covers on Living Loud are great rockers.

Yeah that's awesome, a real raw talent Jimmy.

"Working Class Man" is a song originally performed by Australian singer Jimmy Barnes. It was written by American Jonathan Cain of Journey

Now ya talking...one of the great talents of all time.

But Farnham...truly one of th elegendary voices of all time. So respected, but so unknown outside of this country. Al musicians know about him though...I'm always getting told by artists how much hey admire John.
