Sounds good to me. Let's just hope that the damage Bush has done is not irreparable. That bastard has stirred up a lot of shit.

Sorry for my excessive posting, but this is great thread.

Richard Nixon was a pretty solid president IMO. he was a smart guy and did smart things regarding the military and the economy. it baffles my mind why he broke into the Democratic HQ up 25 points. He was a two term president if he doesn't do that. See, I give props on both sides and trash people on both sides.
Worse president title was directed toward Bush, tricky dick was a fuck up also, but GW Bush, is a total screw up,Nixon didnt start a war, that was in his lap. GW started a war on misinformation.

Im a long term die hard McCain Republican. WHilst I dont agree with Obama on most things he says, I think hes a good man. I think it would be good to have a McCain / Obama matchup this fall. Both candidates have character and would put the issues first, and we might have an uplifting election.

Hillary has character. I really feel she, along with McCain, Huckabee, Richardson, Edwards and Obama, genuinely care about certain things. I think they all mean well.

Thompson is brain dead, Dodd is gone, Biden is angry, and Guiliani is a war hawk hoping to bomb Iran.

I personally would like to see a Clinton/Edwards ticket. I like both of them and am having a hard time choosing between them. But I do think the two of them together could solve quite a few problems that our country is faced with right now. I like Obama but just don't feel he is ready to be president yet. I would vote for him in 2016. What excites me is that we have so many talented and loyal dems right now. I do believe they are sincere about making our country what it used to be. I can't wait until they get a chance to try.

I'm backing Edwards till the end. I just don't see Hil as electable, and something about Obama just doesn't resonate with me. But, I also think it's a HUGE mistake to underestimate Mike Huckabee. That guy just got some serious momentum going. AND, I think if Clinton gets the nod, it will galvanize the Red State base like we've never seen before...

I'm not exactly sure what "he still doesn't have a clue" means. As someone who was born and raised in Massachusetts, I can tell you that Ted Kennedy, in spite of all of his personal problems over the years, is considered to be a SUPERB senator. I also suspect that history will view him as one of the best senators ever, in terms of significant legislation he has sponsored, over the years.

I agree that McCain has ZERO shot! Although I've always believed that McCain is a very likeable politician, Americans don't elect 71 year old presidents (unless your name is Ronald Reagan, and even he was 69 when elected for the first time)! I also think even though it sounds nutty to say...short guys aren't taken seriously when running for president! Can it really be just a coincidence that every president we've elected in the past 30 years is over 6 feet tall? I personally think it's silly to equate height with strength, but as I said, it seems like too strange of an occurrence to be just a coincidence!

Thank heavens for that.

Also, I wasn't aware how the Democratic caucuses worked in Iowa until they showed one in progress last night. Talk about the dumbest, most confusing, bizarre way to vote I've ever seen.

I agree. The entire caucus system in just plain fucked up. I mean a lot of this voting occurs in private homes in people's living rooms. If one candidate isn't deemed to be "viable", the people that have a "viable" candidate pressure the ones supporting the non-viable candidate to come over to their side! Truly the most wacked-out way of doing things! Thank god they don't vote for president this way, or they'd make the Florida election system look advanced, instead of archaeic!

Those are exactly my thoughts. Pressuring someone to vote a certain way is wrong. The caucus they showed on the news last night looked more like a scene from the stock exchange in New York City than it did a vote.

He had his bright spots.
Tricky Dick also created the EPA and initially proposed a form of universal healthcare that Hillary's version bears more than a slight resemblance.
Compare this to the current asshole who has appointed lobbyists to nearly every governmental protection agency (to see how this turned out, go vist New Orleans) as well as believing the uninsured are best dealt with by emergency room trips.

As it currently stands, I would vote Huckabee over Obama. At least Huckabee bolsters his folksy down-on-the-farm charm with populist ideas. What exactly does Obama stand for besides cliched garbage like "hope" and "optimism"?
Obama has been nothing but empty rhetoric since he first introduced himself into the national consciousness at the '04 Dem convention. He's a piece of shit. Actually, I think the top three Democratic candidates are uniformly horrible.

Along these lines of thinking/theorizing...candidates with names that are too ethnic sounding don't get elected either. Think about it. Solid simple benign names are more appealing to the American voter...Clinton, Reagan, Carter, Johnson, Truman, Cleveland, Lincoln, etc. Names like Guiliani & Dukakis are fine for cities and some states, but not for national elections. While I generally like Barrack Hussein Obama, I think he may fall into the latter category. If Fred Thompson had his head screwed on straight, he'd be very electable.

Just a personal observation. No scientific fact.

Since Biden and Dodd have dropped out (two appealing, meat and potatoes, everyday American candidates) Richardson has become the singular vote for sanity on the Democratic side.
Tho he has no chance in hell, I really enjoy watching Mike Gravel who is a composite of Paul's libertarian and Kucinich's liberal leanings. At 77, he's got nothing to lose and is even less afraid to speak what's really on his mind than Paul.
YouTube some of his debate highlights if you have a chance.
Fiery stuff.

I might go Bloomberg, I might go Nader, might even go Paul...anyone but the aforementioned empty suits.

I have a client who is a political consulting firm, and they normally work for senatorial campaigns. Always have great conversations with them, including yesterday, when I asked about the Ron Paul issue. Very interesting. He said this whole Internet blogger groundswell deal that seemed to really spark with Howard Dean, and now Ron Paul, is really something to watch, but so far has failed to translate into huge numbers of actual votes. He says the fundraising that has happened for these candidates has been phenomenal, so they end up with a huge amount of cash, but that for some reason it just hasn't in the past translated into the actual votes.

He also mentioned that this whole Fox News debate issue is very interesting. Basically, their reason for not including Ron Paul in the debates is because they consider him a "fringe candidate", but their argument doesn't really hold up when they include Fred Thompson, who has less money. It's cool learning about the machinations of how some of these things work, and I enjoy talking with them any chance I get.

In general, this group leans Democrat, and I was surprised when one of the younger girls there recently told me why she couldn't support Hillary Clinton for President. Turns out she actually likes and respects Hillary, but thinks that she's the wrong person to have in office while we have a war going on. She specifically mentioned that having a woman as President during this time would send the wrong message to our enemies. I was really surprised by this, but her rationale made sense.

This is why the system is corrupt. We will never have a candidate with a chance to win who is actually for the people. Only candidates who can raise tons of dough and paying it back in various forms once they are elected.

I don't get that. Considering the enemy’s degrading treatment of women, if anything, a female President would only show our defiance to their envisioned medieval caliphate society. I just don't think Hillary or Condi should be that woman.

It's simple. We need public financing of campaigns. Unfortunately, the right wing cry "first amendment!" and drag their feet every step of the way.

I sure hope that Iowans (at least I think that's what they're called) got it right, with Hillary coming in third! Hillary Clinton is one of the most unlikeable people whom I have ever come across, in the world of politics! I've always been a HUGE fan of Bill Clinton, but I guess I'm one of the few who doesn't view Hillary getting elected as putting Bill back in the White House. The truth of the matter is if not for that fact, she wouldn't even be attempting to get elected. I believe that is the ONLY reason she has ANY shot, at all! Hell, I still can't believe the people of NY elected her to the senate. I mean...This woman moves to NY, for no other reason, but to seek a seat in the senate! She has ZERO connection to the state and never even lived there, and then somehow she is representing the interests of people she has zero connection to??? Only in America! Can you say carpetbagger! I don't think that act would fly in most states! As fucked up as Ted Kennedy has been over the years...he's at least one of us (meaning from Massachusetts, representing Massachusetts)!
