OT: Why I HATE Fox News

Postby Rip Rokken » Sun Jan 06, 2008 3:31 am

When Fox News first came out, I was really happy to have an alternative to the liberally-biased media. I really enjoyed the channel at first, but grew to hate it over time as they gravitated to schlock programming, and started really catering to the lowest common denominator. I started feeling dumber every time I turned it on. I've mentioned before, that for a station that leans toward a conservative slant on the news, I find it hypocritical that they never spare the opportunity to show as much skin as possible. Occasionally I still do check out FoxNews.com, and here is what I find today, scrolling down slightly from the top. Just about every bigger headline or video has to do with some sleazy topic that is completely irrelevant to journalism or important world events. I think I'm going to ditch that site for good as any kind of news source.

Let's see, what do we have... A story about a girl getting fired from the German military for getting a boob job (a top story!), two bits on Britney Spears, 1 bit on Penelope Cruz's lesbian kiss, and something about a model griping about how a pornographic ad is hurting her career. N-i-i-i-i-c-e work, guys!

And see, here's the thing... Obviously, I enjoy celebrity gossip (read it just like the funny pages), but I can get that crap from TMZ. Don't give a damn about seeing it on a supposed news channel. It's been enough to drive me back to places I ran from before.

In a nutshell, this is why I can't stand Fox News:

* The afore-mentioned HYPOCRISY... Bill O'Reilly or Fox & Friends will let the station loop exploitative footage of something like the Paris Hilton Carl's Jr. ad about 20 times before they act disgusted and say, "All right, that's enough... Get that off the screen". They are definitely part of the problem these days. I'm not disgusted by the footage -- just the disingenuous nature of how they present it.

* SCHLOCK programming that focuses on non-news stories like "missing hot rich white girl" of the week, or celeb court cases.

I used to think they had some decent programming, but now it's largely tabloid stuff. Just crap... I did used to have nice little crushes on Juliett Huddy, Kiran Chetry and Laurie Dhue, though! :P

If you want to see Bill O exposed, simply turn on Keith Olberman. That guy trashes Fox, but does so with proof and cause, not mean spirited bias. He doesn't hold back. Rips those assholes a new one nightly. Then Dan Abrams, a very bright guy continues on with factual reasoning and blows up Faux.

Fox will be even more biased next year when the Dems have all three Houses.

Ever notice that the administration will only do interviews on Fox? That is hilarious. And now Fox will not let Ron Paul join the GOP debate, although he finished higher, much higher than 9/11 Rudy. A complete farcicle joke that is about to become exposed.

I really like Dan Abrams for sure. I lost any respect I had for Bill O'Reilly after his harassment issue. What a hypocrite. The guy should have at least shown some humility about it, but there was none of that. Bill O'Reilly caters to people who don't think too much. Sean Hannity is also a non-talent. I've never been impressed with him, and thought he was a lightweight. Yes, the Ron Paul treatment by Fox is another nail in their coffin for me.

MSNBC/Fox/O'Reilley etc

Postby infinityplusone » Sun Jan 06, 2008 6:46 am

I toggle between Oberman and O'Reilley and have come to the conclusion that Keith Obermann is in love with Bill O'Reilley.
Ha.

They're apples and apples. O'Reilley is a terrible debater and some of his format is just stilly (like the body language analysis chick). Still, I give him credit for going after judges who are too lenient on child molesters and some of the more disgusting heavies on the far left. Plus he often has people on who disagree with him and they'll argue. To an extent.. His biggest problem is that he comes off as, for lack of a better word, a 'square.'

Obermann has a better format and is more 'newsy'. But it is _very_ slanted and his hatred of Bush clouds his analysis. As far as guests - he will only put on sycophants so O'Reilley's the clear winner there. Plus, Obermann was way too quick to come to MSNBC's side in the stupid Imus firing, touting MSNBC's "image and integrity" were at stake. This was two or three days before MSNBC (and only them) decided to run photos of the Viriginia Tech shooter before authorities gave any okay for the media. We did not need to see images of the phsycopath aiming at us while they were still couting the victims.
Still, I'd rather have a beer with Obermann - he's funny.

All information is sorted and filtered before we can comsume it. Pick your bias and be aware of the opposite point-of-view. Then form your own opinion; what else can you do?

Nice post, and right on with it.

Having said that, CNN is the world leader and rightfully so, but is it too much to ask to get some attractive females on there? Not to the extent Faux does..they fill the TV with hotties and NO substance. At least MSNBC has that one hot brunette, Constance(I think) and Nora Odonell. Every time I see her, I fall in love with her mouth and wish to Christ my cock was going in and out of it... She is really attractive. But back to CNN...That Int'l reporter Christine Amapor or something like that, who is very good, but goddamned if dogs don't look down when they hump her leg. Wolf Blitzer and Anderson Cooper are top notch, just an Earth's crust difference than Geraldo Rivera. That guy is complete joke.

I could provide you with irrefutable (albeit long-winded) proof that the media is, in fact, not liberal-biased, but actually leans (cumulatively, including radio and TV) substantially to the right.

Abrams is cool, and I liked Joe Scarborough. And whatever you think about the man, Pat Buchanan is a great angry old coot.

Ha ha. Yeah, you gotta give to Fox as far as T&A goes. I remember watching HANNITY & colmes once where they had the four-way screen and the other three guests were just balls-out HOTTIES. Who remembers what the fuck they were talking about or what the issue was. colmes was clearing having a "hard" time of it, keeping liberal and feminist. While HANNITY was no doubt plagued with a boner he'd later have to pray about.

A hot chick has to really go out of her way to have her opinions taken seriously.. Not that I'm feelin sorry for em. It's just that, as a guy, you can't help but be going "Oh now, heh heh. Mm-mmm, I guess ya have a point there. Oh wait, don't pout. I'm sorry, can I guy you dinner?" That sort of thing. Unless it's Ann Coulter.

CNN used to have some anchor (late 90s?) on that was some latina with long dark hair, beautiful lips and a swelling bosom that exuded credibility. Don't remember what her name was.

I'll have to check out Nora ODonell.

Not bad looking until she opens her mouth. She could do voice-over for the Black Knight in the first Highlander movie.

Overall Media Bias - "Leans Right"

Postby infinityplusone » Sun Jan 06, 2008 7:56 am

I have a friend who sees it that way too. After absorbing that point of view... With all due respect - doesn't that assertion have more to do with your own world-view than an indictment of the media? And to a large extent semantics?

For example, if you assert that the media was far too complacent, non-rigorous in its 'acceptance' of the Bushies drive to go to war, then from certain point of view, you're correct. You could then go on to say that this sheepishness on their (media's) part was an affirmation of conservatism, or "the far right."

This assumes:
a) all or most conservatives are in favor of US engaging in pre-emptive war
b) all or most conservatives support the Bush administration, and march lock-step with whatever decisions it takes

I don't think those assumptions are true anymore, as Bush's incompetence regardless of his decision, has soured many conservative's view of him. So why hasn't the media, in full, gotten on the Keith Obermann bandwagon and

 Ahghh!! - forget that thread.

What I'm really trying to say is that the "media is actually right-leaning" crowd.. What the media is really interested in doing is maintaining the STATUS QUO.

And before you say, "yeah, and isn't that 'conservative'?" There are just as many if not more folks who think the "status-quo" is a too permissive, entitlement-based, victimized culture.

So take your pick.

:P !!! Man, I can't stand her. Used to like her in the beginning, but she just presents herself in a way that you can't possibly respect her anymore. She's nothing but a sarcastic bomb-thrower, and it's not that I don't agree with many of her opinions, it's just the delivery and the gross lack of judgment about what she says. In general, I don't like bombastic delivery, because they are like carnival barkers to me. That's one reason I can't listen to Michael Savage, either.

But there are some Fox employees that I really do like and respect. Always have liked Fred Barnes, Mort Kondracke (though I don't agree with him most of the time and I call him Count Dracky), Chris Wallace, Cal Thomas. I also think Sheppard Smith is fun and harmless, as is John Gibson with his goofy hair.

For the ones I really can't stand anymore, The Fox and Friends crew are a bunch of clowns. O'Reilly is a hypocritical blowhard who oversimplifies often complex topics and tries to fire up outrage about it -- I think he's the type that resonates most with people who would be prone to mob mentality when placed in groups. Hannity is a soundbyte expert, and you never hear him get too deep into conservative theory -- he just spouts off talking points, and he's a HORRIBLE debater. Won't give an opponent the chance to speak, and the first time they say something he doesn't like, he tears into them and clings on to that one point like a pitbull... the result is oftentimes not much gets said at all. He doesn't use logical arguments at all, else he might actually score some points -- he's all about tit-for-tat talking points. I used to like him on the radio, but after watching Hannity and Colmes for about a year, I figured out I couldn't stand him. Especially irritates me the smug way he raises his head and juts his chin out when he thinks he's scoring big points on someone. Greta Van Susteren's show is horrendously bad, and I've seen a few (like the Natalie Holloway case shows), where she had absolutely NOTHING to talk about, and it was like watching someone trying to squeeze the last smidgen of toothpaste out of an empty tube. Very embarrassing, and a complete waste of viewer time.

Some of those women on Fox are kind of scary. I swear some of them have such deep voices and I think I have even seen an adams apple or two. That's why they wear those short skirts. To distact you from the top of them. I think turtle neck sweaters would be a fashion plus for them.

Ann Coulter definitely has a big Adam's apple. While she was still there, Rita Cosby had some kind of issue where her voice just about disappeared it became so hoarse. Not sure what was up with that.

Forgot to mention another girl I like there, though -- Michele Malkin... she's a little hottie!

I will give Fox this, though. When I first started watching, I noticed how many more non-Caucasians had on-air jobs on that channel than any of the major networks, who had a token minority here and there.

She's all about getting publicity and money for herself. She's basically the Al Franken of conservatism. I can't stand her, though she does write some really good columns occasionally.

O'Reilly is a hypocritical blowhard who oversimplifies often complex topics and tries to fire up outrage about it -- I think he's the type that resonates most with people who would be prone to mob mentality when placed in groups.

O'Reilly is more of a centrist than a conservative. From what I've seen, he's very anti-free speech. I do watch his show but find him to be a really self-serving blowhard. I have to give him kudos, though, for telling it like it is about that fake, John Edwards.

Hannity is a soundbyte expert, and you never hear him get too deep into conservative theory -- he just spouts off talking points, and he's a HORRIBLE debater. Hannity is just as bad as most liberal talk show hosts. He only brings guests from the other side in to try to start an argument with them and, if the guest makes a good point, he generally ignores it or cannot answer it.

Olberman is just as bad as the aforementioned individuals and the so-called "mistakes" he catches by O'Reilly, Hannity, etc., are often nothing more than out-of-context, Michael Moore style cut and paste jobs.
