Sat through a game there in December. Afterwards, I couldn't move. Froze to the seat. Saw Bears get manhandled. Great great fans though. Tremendous sports town. 78 times better than LA. LA is the worst sports town in the country.

You didn't watch any of the hockey game did you?

Dean, I think Mike Illich is trying to get the NHL to hook up a Red Wings vs. Maple Leafs game at the Big House. If that happens, I AM there. 1 of over 100,000 people there. This has to happen. :D

I know some inside NHL peeps and they told me this. They don't want to do this every year, so the luster won't rub off, but Gary Bettman does. Here is the possiblities they are considering:

DET @ TOR at Skydome
?? @ Boston at Fenway
DET @ CHI at Soldier Field

Maybe a game at PNC park in Pittsburgh.

I heard they're going to try to schedule the Leafs vs. Wings in the big house with the Wolverines playing the Spartans earlier and make a whole weekend ordeal out of it. Sounds cool as hell.

You are correct sir. I totally glossed over that. That is true. They will offer single game and/or dual game tickets. After the UM/MSU game, the place will be cleared out and then re entry will ensue. That 's the plan, but the Leafs are balking at this.

Yeah, go figure. They should be honored to share the stage with the Wings. The fastest team in NHL history to reach 30 wins!!!! John Brophy still sucks. And so does that old man Harold Ballard even though he's dead.

It's a shame you won't go anywhere in the playoffs. Vancouver is a much better built team for the playoffs. MUCH better.

Yankee or Shea Stadium, even the Big House. NHL could take it outside some more
By IRA PODELL, AP Hockey Writer
January 5, 2008

Line 'em up.

After watching the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins play in the snow, the potential sites for the next outdoor game are limitless.

How about a winter farewell to New York's Yankee Stadium or Shea Stadium, which both have one baseball season left before they are replaced by new digs.

The Rangers could play the local Islanders or New Jersey Devils, or even the Bruins in a new chapter of the New York-Boston rivalry on the field where Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams faced off.

There has already been some buzz that the Penguins might face the Philadelphia Flyers in an all-Pennsylvania showdown in Happy Valley, right on the field where Joe Paterno has roamed the Penn State football sideline for decades.

Or maybe in Michigan. Detroit has apparently lost the title of "Hockeytown," but the Red Wings could look to create a new one in Ann Arbor at the Big House.

Just think if the rival Colorado Avalanche came there, or even the Chicago Blackhawks in what would be a compelling Original Six matchup.

"It was great. It was fun to watch," Avalanche coach Joel Quenneville said of Pittsburgh's 2-1 shootout win over Buffalo at Ralph Wilson Stadium. "It brings back old-time memories, when you're out there skating and get hit with a snowflake in the eye while in the backyard, around the lake."

The NHL has pulled off the event twice in the regular season, and drew a league-record crowd for the New Year's Day matchup this week. Ratings were up, too, and when was the last time hockey could claim that?

If it'll play in Buffalo, how about a Montreal-Toronto matchup with the roof open at the former SkyDome?

"If we played outdoor every game, it would be neat," Sabres forward Jason Pominville said. "It takes a lot of preparation, but if we can do it once a year, I don't see why we couldn't do it every year."

After having numerous days to recover from the "Crapitol One Bowl" I am now back to my senses and know our future is so goddamned bright I will laugh at anyone who wants to bust my balls. We have a recruiting class coming in that addresses our needs and bring back a LOT of talent. If anything, the Crapitol One Bowl makes us even more dangerous for 2008....

FL would do well to avoid big, mean, physical teams like Michigan who manhandled them, as long as possible.

Here's my question, Scarab...When your Gators actually have a suckass team, are you in denial about it or do you say flat out that your team sucks? Loyalty is one thing, but you seem to be one of these fans who crosses over into the land of blind rooting for laundry!

Somewhat agree. The Big11 is pretty good, not great this year.

Bottom line Florida fans, like Penn State fans, can say they lost to a Michigan team who lost to a 1aa team so I don't see Florida being any better than Penn State.

Thats the funniest thing Ive read on here. They got one win. If Florida plays them 10 times we win 9 of them, but this was the 1. No way Michigan can keep up with the SEC speed.

That 1-AA team did win a national championship though. They put their pads on just like everyone else. That win was more of a credit to App. St. than a diss on Michigan. It's not like they were a middle of the road 1-AA school. They could play with the big boys and proved it. Good on them. USC lost to Stanford at home as 42 point favorites. App. St. would beat Stanford up and down the field so the USC loss (with ALL the talent they have...good God that team looked awesome against Illinois) was worse than Michigan's. People got way too enamored with the "1-AA" thing.
