Yeah, not the most exciting or original line up there eh?

I wonder who Journey are doing the package with???

I am SOOOOO tired of REO being attached to every freakin' tour package out there!!! They especially seem to follow Styx everywhere and it's really starting to tick me off. When Styx and REO would swap opening slots, I got stuck listening to them more times than I care to remember. My sister came to one of these shows and walked out halfway through REO's set because it was either that, or she was going to strangle Kevin Cronin. It got to the point, that we were praying that Styx would open, so we could leave early.

If it is not firmly set that REO opens every night, I will certainly be passing up on this package. I can't bear to play Russian Rollette and suffer through a REO performance ever again!

Foreigner would kick Journey's ass every single night. This new lineup is a bombastic machine that can blow the doors off of just about any classic band out there right now. It would be suicide for them to hook up with Foreigner... However, maybe it would be poetic justice to see them ground to dust by a band with fewer original members than Journey currently has.

Um, not quite. Foreigner is an opening act and while Journey may now be as well, they are always going to be rated higher than Foreigner.

Well, I guess, we'll have to wait and see how this all shakes out in the end then. It's the beginning of January, with dozens of tours to be yet announced and performed. I've seen Foreigner perform several times now and they've never failed to impress. (Just a question: Have you seen them in the last couple of years?)

After speculation is put to rest about the packages, we can then begin to truly speculate on the outcomes. It will be interesting to see who is grouped with who, who rises, and who falls.

My money is still on KISS. In an interview about his appearance on Donald Combover's reality show, Gene Simmons mentioned that "Kiss is touring in 08".

Like em or not, it would be a big tour.

This I would find hard to believe! I know Foreigner is really good on the road but no way they can match a Journey show. I saw Foreigner and Journey back in the early to mid 80's and even in the heydays Journey put them to shame. I have no reason to believe anything different now. These comments are ludicrus.

Wish they'd tour with Bryan Adams or something.

Downes makes 1,000X more with Asia than he would rehashing 1 hit with the Buggles.
The singer from Big Country put a bullet in his head or something.

I Frankie Sullivan could get bring himself to stop counting money and get off his ass, Survivor would be a great touring companion for Journey.

Journey-Foreigner bill

Postby kellyhansenfan » Sun Jan 06, 2008 7:46 am

I saw Foreigner live on New Year's Eve and I can honestly say that they rock the house. The could certainly overshadow Journey when it comes to energy and looking "happy" on stage. This is just MY OPINION. As someone who has seen Journey over 50+ times in concert and Foreigner over 10 times, I am just going by what I think. However, I would NOT want to see Journey and Foreigner together. As far as I know, Foreigner has plans to do shows here and there throughout February-June and work on new material. There are even dates scheduled already at casinos and smaller venues.

As much as i like Def Leppard/Styx/ REO Speedwagon i would like to hear some new music than the same old setlist. YES, Def Leppard has a new album coming out, lets see if Styx/REO can reach into their deep catalogues and pull out some different songs.

Just my opinion, but since they will be so concerned about how they look, sound, and everything else with Arnel at the helm, I would bet they find an average band that will help them draw, but not one they fear will overshadow them, that way they will look better then they are, and claim they are back.

There is plenty embarrassing about Journey these days without JSSB or any other band needing to lift a finger to help, but it would still be fun to see.

Well, I'm always torn when it comes to Styx. Glad to see 'em out there but ...

I saw Styx for the first time in a few years back in October in one of their few solo shows with no other acts. Same basic setlist as always. I'm good for a few more years unless something radical happens.

I've never really liked REO live, and they get worse every time. If they never played with Styx, the only time I would have seen them was back in the early 90s. Kevin Cronin is grating live. I can't even imagine sitting through Def Leppard.

Styx/REO/Journey was OK since 2 out of 3 wasn't bad and they all got decent playing time.

What I think will be interesting is to see how the slots go. We know Def is the headliner. But what's the order for the other two and how long do they get to play? Assuming that Def Leppard gets 90 minutes (so, let's assume they come onstage at 9:15PM), you'd have to start the show at 7PM to give both other bands at least 45 minutes.

As for Journey, it will be interesting to see what venues they get with Arnel. I would think that some of the names kicked around here like Foreigner would be somewhat complimentary. Although I'd sooner see Journey do smaller indoor theaters like they did in 98 and build it up again.

They took turns last year but I liked it better when STYX was 1st.

Foreigner is awesome, tho. Their new live dvd with Kelly Hansen is really good.

Def Leppard is such a great sing along feel good show. But I would like to hear some new stuff, or drag up some obscure stuff, or do more from YEAH--for variety's sake.

Heart, Bryan Adams, and Journey would be a killer.

I am TOTAL BRAT and I know that I live in LA DO DA land but have ya considered JSSB and Journey? It's a wild hair I know but a GirlCanDream.

Um, no.

Hate em all you want, Howie is no Neal, although Howie can definitely play.

Haha maybe I got carried away a bit, but still, they'd put the heat on the Journey fellas. JSSB kick some righteous ass, while Journey (when not with Jeff) has gotten staler as the years have went by.

Oh, and I'm not entirely a hater, just a pessimistic fanboy who'll end up buying anything they put out and complain about it, while secretly listening to it twice a week ;)

I've got half of the Frig's solo albums, for crying out loud

nice save prog cuz I was a fixin to sling shot your "self" all by myself. hehe j/k

I had mentioned that lineup weeks ago as a olive branch to jss from journey. the problem is that JSSB has soooo much material it would be hard to smash it into an opener, i.e. 60 minutes. there wouldn't be a need for another band, that's for sure. The musicianship of each of these guys individually is unbeatable and how can you beat JSS in front. oooooooooo. I gave myself the chills. DreamingGirl.

I'd love to see Nickelback. Joss Stone might be too big but man that would be fantastic. She tore up the Austin City Limits Music festival in October. I'm sticking with Bryan Adams and Foreigner.

I'm gonna jump waaaaaaay out and offer Keith Urban. that would make a great CMT Crossroads show, too.

New album that has industry buzzing could mean they get paired with some younger opening acts to draw youngsters...

What? Oh, the "buzzing." Yeah,um dude, the only thing you hear buzzing in the Journey camp, is that vibrator set to high, buzzing away in Friga's cornhole as he sits down for another rousing performance of Open Arms.

If you are ever depressed about Journey with Arnel, just look over to Styx with Gowan. At least Arnel can sing! Styx has been relegated to being a 30 minute opening band for an opening band. Well, at least Tommy Shaw doesn't have to still play Babe.

well, possibly--- but seeing STYX live, particularly Tommy Shaw, is worth it. and 30 minutes is way better than nada. i REALLY enjoyed seeing STYX with DL, especially California, (where were we Cindi??). And I could see Jeff on stage to the side enjoying the show with us. Todd Sucherman is a monster--so fun to watch! JY -- wow. Ricky Phillips--yummy. and LG is very entertaining--a real showman. and an acrobat!!!

just my $.02

STYX didn't always open--Foreigner opened too. right?

I'm with Debbie--these bills are lots of fun. Remember front row in Houston, Deb? Getting to play Tommy's guitar, winks and picks raining down...

It's about money, folks. Def Lep resisted overtures from Journey to tour together for years (Joe Elliott didn't think it was a good fit, but Neal was determined); then the 2006 tour turned out to be Def Lep's second highest-grossing tour EVER. (Of course ticket price inflation accounts for some of that.) Def Lep-Styx-Foreigner obviously must have done well last year too.

I enjoyed Styx the most at the Irvine show. Lawrence has so much energy on stage. I thought Foreigner sucked donkey balls, just couldn't get into them. Lepp was good, although I would've enjoyed them a lot more if we had better seats (like front row). I've had front row several times, so I'm very spoiled!

And Todd Sucherman...yes, so much fun to watch! Reminds me of another certain dark-haired, goateed, very talented drummer. :D
