Any song ideas out there???

Postby G.I.Jim » Mon Jan 07, 2008 5:41 am

Hey Everyone,

I've got tons of music written, and just wanted to see if anyone can help me come up with a topic to write about. I'm serious! I don't need lyrics, music, or melodies...just a topic. And NO Deano, I won't write a song about how bad Bush sucks!

If you have any topics, just reply here, or send me a PM. Thanks.

Yeah people, let's get some ideas!

I've had writers' block for a few weeks now myself and could use a little inspiration too. :D

An old man who has nothing left, except remembering the dreams of his youth. Playing images of what she dreamt to be over and over again thus remembering that he never got to reach the life he wanted and in doing so has become resentful and bitter in his old ages.

. .. . or something to do with flowers and puppies.

Let me give you some ideas about what the songs are like... I have 2 or 3 songs that are pretty far along, and the have a very Toto"ish" feel to them. 2 of them are pretty upbeat, and I was looking for either something positive to sing about, or something about being at a party... Not sure exactly what I'm looking for. Someone already sent me one pretty cool idea, but I'm just wondering what some of you may come up with! Let ma know if you think of any.

I struggle on them too! I can write sappy love songs, or songs about loosing a loved one all day long! It's the fast, positive feel-good songs that kick my ass!!! If I can just get an idea flowing, I can write all day. I've just gotta get started. :?

How about a song about my rottweiler named "Paris"? Yesterday she crapped a magic marker cap. Ouch. She's a big dog but damn! She once crapped a turd loaded with rubber bands. It reminded me of Captain Lou Albano. I have two dogs...one never eats anything weird. The other has shat a pencap, a dime, a folded bottle cap, yarn, baseball glove tie-laces, straw, you fucking name it.
I'm looking forward to hearing this song.

You must REALLY inspect that crap pretty close! I appreciate the thought, but I don't see myself writing about a ......shitting dog! Maybe Wierd Al could bust out the song over Back in Black or something. Keep that song in your head, and sing this to that tune...

My dog crapped
he shit a cap
he eats it up...it always comes back

well I, let him loose
from his noose
don't wanna see him hanging around

Well, You get the idea!

I appreciate the compliments Larry, but sometimes I just dry up about stuff to say! If I have a direction for a song, I can usually write and record a song in a day or two. I just have a hard time (at least on faster songs) coming up with something to talk about. I don't know why?
If I had a guitarist sitting in the room with me, I could write all kinds of stuff, but as it is...I have to do everything. I'm no guitarist, drummer, or bassist, but I just have to make do on my boards.

The ultimate situation would be to hook up with a guitarist and vocalist, and spend a week or so writing material! I've never had that. Oh well...back to the drawing board! :x

No, I think a timepiece...one of those boastful, in-your-face, full-of-bravado numbers that could feature lyrics similar to:

"I'm here to please, even down on my knees
Making love to who(m)ever I please"

OR

"So we put her on the hit list
Of a common cunning linguist
And she mastered many tongues"

You know...kind of a "Smooth Up In Ya" kind of thing.

I actually wrote a song that touched on that Rip...it's called "Just pray". It turned out cheesy as hell, and although I like the sentiment of the song, I just don't like it! All I've worked with for almost 17 years, is soldiers, yet I can't seem to come up with a cool enough song for them!

I have a lot of close friends over there right now (one of my best friends). I just guess I really don't know what direction I'd take it in. Cool idea for a song though.

Depends what your state of mind is I guess. Personally I think the best results come from singing about loving a woman. If it's a good tune, the chicks will love it and the guys will too because it's good material to have playing while they are romancing their woman. I got all kinds of incredible romance from my woman when I threw on the Don Juan DeMarco soundtrack in the cd player with Adams doing: "Have you ever really loved a woman." Same with Kitaro's "Dream" album featuring the track "Lady of Dreams" sung by Jon Anderson. So basically what's your point? Drive fast, kill someone, rob a bank and run from the cops, or romance a fine woman? Figure that out and go from there.
