Wait and see for me, too. The Youtube clips make it really difficult to make any judgement IMO - although that cover of Led Zep's 'Rock and Roll' sounds pretty good to me.

btw, I'm a staunch *NO* on this.

Somehow, that was to be expected. I voted for Arnel because he's been given this awesome chance to perform with a band that many of us here have an affinity with. (okay I get for some of you it's love-hate but you're still talkin' bout them right. So in that end, they ain't dead to you yet)

I can respect your opinion though...this is after all America. And I still live in San Diego...GO CHARGERS!!!

I think Arnel is a great karaoke singer, but I am not a fan. I was a fan of Journey with Steve Perry, and that's why I am here. I cannot see being a fan of a band with a rotating lineup of singers - especially cover band singers.

Journey is now a Steve Perry tribute band.

Couldn't be more wrong here. The band, as it currently stands is deader than dirt to me....has been for a while. The *reason* I still float in here once in a while is because the legacy is what is getting killed off now...and that I have had a vested interested in. Sadly, that's evaporating too. Why waste time and energy on something the proprietors are hell bent on destroying?

Seeing the legacy destroyed is more disturbing than watching Nealpoleon and Frigalini parade out replacement singer after replacement singer to do the dirty dozen marginal justice. The damage these two dimwit idiots do this band on an individual basis is not in itself legacy destructive. The grand sum of this damage is, unfortuantely, catastrophic. It still amazes me that some are either too dumb or ignorant to see such damage happening right before their eyes. For those of you that are tree-huggers...how is it that you complain about the environment, but can't see past your own greed to keep journey returning to your state fairs, despite what it does to the history of this band. The slow methodical destruction of the environment is not-at-all dissimilar to the destruction of journey's legacy at the hands of two maniacal schmucks with your dollars in their hands!

Why is it that there are zero books on this bands history? Why is it than whenever this band is brought up outside of the online world, it's met with a snicker? Journey should be greater than Led Zep, Grateful Dead and Van Halen combined...but they are a quickly evaporating footnote in rock and roll history!!!!

Why is that?

and what's worse....why do most arniots refuse to care or see the light here. It's over...it's done with. Anything left to do is only going to destroy this band's once great legacy further....and line a masogynistic/adulterous pig's wallets with cash stolen out of your pocket.

Sad....

truly sad.

It's because most of them were not Journey fans to begin with - they were Arnel fans. To them, Journey is just another stepping stone to see their Filipino patriarch bring glory to the homeland. It has nothing to do with being a fan of Journey or Steve Perry. One look at the YouTube comments about Arnel makes that very clear.

Filipinos propping up Filipinos? What a novel concept. If he sucked, we'd say that he sucked but he doesn't. I see the politics and the business of music is a sticky point. To me, it's the music that matters. While I can agree that I can hear some Steve Perry in his stylings, I can't fault the guy for singing on point note for note(not word-for-word yet but that's why the accent reduction coach is there right). In the end, it's still a vocalist giving his all to sing a song that touches us in some way.

Did I like Journey before Arnel? Hell yeah, Cassette tapes of Escape and The Vision Quest soundtrack started it all for me plus MTV. Do I like Journey with Arnel? I think that he can INFUSE passion in his singing. So yeah, I do. It's a bonus that he's filipino but man, if the guy was botswanan and spoke swahili, then youtube would have swahili props(albeit, if they had internet like they do elsewhere).

It's the politics that drag many of you down. It's the music that matters...is it possible to just evaluate that without all the other crap?

I won't be shocked if some of you say no I cannot.

Not at the expense of this band's legacy it's not!! What the grand majority of arneliots keep forgetting (conveniently) to recognize is that this is *not* about arnel or his fucking nationality (it was never a race issue, so blow that out your collective asses). This is about Journey's legacy and the pure fucking shambles its in. Arnel could be an ugandan head hunter, a russian mobster, an Alaskan Eskimo with raw fish guts stuck in his teeth....it doesn't fucking matter.

So to some bunch of filipinos looking to make this about filipinos, there's their first mistake. To the same bunch looking to make this about Arnel...there's the second mistake.

This is about Journey (nothing more...nothing less) circling the drain and Anel's just the tool that Nealpoleon and Frigalini have elected to use to sap a few more dollars out of unsuspecting fans.

I voted no and before anyone asks me why, I'll say the same thing here that I said in another thread. One of your poll choices was "let's wait and see. Youtube videos have crappy audio and video" Load of shit this statement is! If those video clips, (the EXACT same ones that Neal used to determine that this was THE guy) are good enough for him to use then why aren't they now good enough for me to decide that I don't like his voice or stage presence. Why should I have to "wait and see"?

Figure out a way to answer those questions realistically and honestly.

Neal used the youtube clips to deem him worthy of a live audition. Those clips merely gave him a chance, nothing more. I'll be doing the same.

just a wild guess - the band didn't determine he was THE guy for them until after they saw him perform in person.

Correction to SJ and Cyndy.

Reread Neals quotes. He himself said he had to walk away from the computer to regroup because the guy was THAT good.
This to me sounds like he had NO trouble with the sound and or video on youtube. So again I reiterate why should I have to wait and see when it was good enough for AP's new employer?

If those clips are good enough to get Journey to get him a work visa and fly his ass to Cali, then surely there are good enough for people to vote yes or no on a message board.

Your logic is fucked. If what you say is true then they would have never auditioned him. They would have called and offered him the job rather than an audition. You're reading way too much into some buttered up comments Neal made to tout their new singer.

No Not fucked logic. Answering the question in the poll.

Your logic is the one that is skewed man. If Neal could determine through "poor audio and video clips" the extent of this guys "talent" and deemed him worthy of an audition, then why is it not safe to assume that I could look at the EXACT same video clips and come up with my own determination of whether or not I think the guy is the right fit?

Just keep trying to twist it any way you choose. I am the one who is CLEARLY AND CONCISELY making a valid point and raising a valid question.

You can judge his talent by the YouTube clips like Neal did, but I don't think there's any way to judge if he's a right fit for Journey until you hear him on stage singing with Journey, and not just singing Journey songs with sub-par musicians. Neal wouldn't have just offered him the job without seeing how he worked with the other members of the group.

Quite simple. Whether or not he "is the right fit" should be judged in a live concert setting and by the original music he produces with the band. In the end, we're being polar opposites in our approach. I'm looking for criteria to be positive and you're looking for criteria to be negative. Lastly, conceding that Neal did use those clips to make a decision (which logic clearly tells us he didn't) it doesn't mean that everyone else has to also make a decision based on his set parameters. The "wait and see" approach is fair, valid and logical even though you're trying to use a "one size fits all" approach.

No you are correct there. However as NIG pointed out earlier, it apparently was good enough for Neal and the gang to get the guy a work visa to come over and try out. So, in the same vain according to the pep squad, I am NOT capable of judging his talent level as it pertains to my personal likes and dislikes based on the exact same video clips is what I'm being told.

God forbid there are any dissenting opinions about the "next" 6 month fair haired golden boy of Journey.

Arnel clearly has the voice for the job, but that's not all he needs. A great voice does not make a great frontman.

Chief - what did you think of those early You Tube recordings of JSS which sounded absolutely horrible? Did you make a judgement on him right then and there? Or did you - like most people here - keep on open mind and allow the guy some time to prove himself within the band?

The You Tube clips of Arnel show promise and talent - I think anyway - but it's surely idiotic to make a definite verdict on Arnel's suitability for Journey at this stage. Seems to me he's probably just as capable of doing what the other fill ins did. It's too early to tell though....which is why I voted for Option 3.

Also - the You Tube clips weren't "good enough for AP's new employer". That's why they flew him over for the audition instead of just offering it to him on the phone.
