This is a binaural recording.I do remember reading about Pearl Jam using this recording technique.


Here's another similar thing - a binaural recording of a woman's voice.She's speaking in Italian,saying what she's doing "I'm getting closer,I'm very close,I'm going away,getting closer again,I'm very very close"...etc
The idea is that the brain "translates" the sounds into the exact location of the source of the sound.
