Not at the expense of this band's legacy it's not!! What the grand majority of arneliots keep forgetting (conveniently) to recognize is that this is *not* about arnel or his fucking nationality (it was never a race issue, so blow that out your collective asses)

Now listen up strangegrey...this propping is all about Arnel's talent. Him joining Journey meant that others felt his talent is good enough to be shared and recorded to be spread throughout a region larger than Asia. THAT IS WHAT WE'RE PROPPING HERE.

This is about Journey's legacy

Look, you're just like me. We all have a say in Journey's legacy, but not as big INDIVIDUALLY as much as COLLECTIVELY. In essence, it's about the music.

What makes your opinion more important than those Filipinos? Do you think that it's because perhaps, you've spent more cash on their records than them? See, all of this stuff is going to be shaped by ALL the people. Some will take your stance, where others may take mine but whatever the case, once the music is out there...we'll all know whose viewpoints are more supported. BUT COLLECTIVELY...there will be a say. If the album goes platinum, what do you say then?

So again, is about the music or what?

Here's a question right back at you, Tang....

Arnel is in... they complete the Chile shows, the little remax thing and hit the road on a limited tour here in the states. With me so far? Things look okay, with the casual fans coming to the shows now held in much smaller venues than what they are expecting. They release the album and sales are... smallish. Eight months down the road they decide that it is the singer that needs to be ditched (and a new one found), because it is the singer causing them the smaller venues and the dismal album sales.

Now... which queue do you now find yourself in? Are you still in the Journey queue, still supporting the band and whatever action it seems to take? Are you firmly in Arnel's queue, waiting to see if that short stint with the J band brought him international fame? Or are you in the queue that a boat load of us are in, the one in which we are fed up with the band carjacking itself and running itself into the ground and wondering what on earth is happening?

While you can simplify things to "it's about the music" all you want, but when you've been a long time fan (and I don't mean since listening to your elder siblings stuff) and you've seen what looks as if it is the deliberate demise of what could very well have been the top touring band of this decade (I'm speaking of JSS here).. still relevant, holding a bit of history and bringing in the masses, it becomes just a wee bit more than "about the music."

Limited? I have a feeling it's going to be pretty extensive.

What? Bigger than the Police or Genesis or Van Halen or Bruce Springsteen? Surely not...

As for your scenario about Arnel causing a collapse in album sales and the band playing in smaller venues...well, that's been happening for nearly a decade now. Haven't you noticed?

Fair questions all-Thanks for the discussion

I would say that I treat it like I treated Van Halen with DLR once Sammy was tabbed to replace him. I support BOTH...provided the music is good. As for that part about the band running themselves into the ground...my view is eventually...they all run themselves into the ground. Some disappear forever, some come back to limited success, and others blow up again. I feel that Journey can blow up again, but if they don't...then to me it means, that they didn't put out music that radio and fans could relate to. In essence, it could mean that all they did was put out "trash for cash."

Kevin Shirley points out that they are doing new songs as well, that has got me excited. The re-recordings are mixed bag for me, but I support the decision...I already paid for the OLD STUFF and if the new stuff sounds good, then this version of Journey will get my hard-earned dollar :)

While you can simplify things to "it's about the music" all you want, but when you've been a long time fan (and I don't mean since listening to your elder siblings stuff)

I'm 40 - my eldest sibling loves the group Chicago-even without the melodious stylings of 1 Peter Cetera. For me, it's always been about the hook of the songs. If I sing an opening line, and my girl recognizes the song and it brings back good memories...then that song is relevant. It may be changed but that doesn't translate to me as automatically bad, to me it may be just as good as it was but different good.

...
and you've seen what looks as if it is the deliberate demise of what could very well have been the top touring band of this decade (I'm speaking of JSS here).. still relevant, holding a bit of history and bringing in the masses, it becomes just a wee bit more than "about the music."

When all is said and done, it's about the music. The top touring band might not be the best band, it could just be the band that has the best marketing. To me, what's important is how I interpret the music I love, will it still bring the "warm fuzzy", that's makes it memorable. The Police hated each other after the Synchronicity tour but you know...All of sudden ok like 20 years later, I'm at Dodger Stadium watching Foo Fighters open up for THE POLICE? Shit happens and that music...that's the bridge man. I await the new Journey and see that I am at a point where I can choose to cross the bridge...or jump off. Signposts up ahead... to me they say,"Walk the line and cross."

You think JSS was going to make them the top touring band of the decade? If that is what you were implying it is quite simply the most ridiculous thing ever said on this or any other board...ever.

If the general public had any kind of relevant musical taste, JSS would be topping charts and using platinum album awards as dinner plates.

But, sadly enough, it probably will never be. I've gotten a lot of people into JSS recently, and they all agree that he's better than half the shit out there.

I'm hoping for the best for JSS though and will continue to do my part by buying albums and hopefully making it to shows.

From what I’ve heard, Arnel has talent. He’s a good singer and probably worthy of a wider audience than he has previously enjoyed. However, I am seriously disappointed with Journey and their decision-making. In order to be fair to Arnel, I have tried to consider him in isolation to determine whether I could be a fan.

It has been mentioned a few times just how personal a choice vocals are, both in their delivery and their importance to the listener. In my case, vocals are the most important aspect of the music to which I listen. I can appreciate the instrumentals on an intellectual basis, but most of my emotional response to the music is carried on the vocals.

The singers of whom I would call myself a fan would all make me seek them out no matter what they sang. To name three of these: Steve Perry, Paul Rodgers and Neil Finn (Crowded House). It’s not about their perfection or range, it’s about my emotional response. When I listen to Arnel, I don’t feel anything. He carries a tune, but it just doesn’t “click” with me. I confess I had the same difficulty with Augeri.

Therefore, I am voting “no”, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t listen to new material or that I would reject Journey just because Arnel’s in it. That will depend on the caliber of the new material.

For flippin sake, this is doin my head in.

Just stop the repetitive argument and just answer the question on the thread. :D

Be it in USA, Brazil, Chile, UK or the rest of Asia any support are all equally good.

It's seems that the consensus is it's good enough for the British people to have a go with the new frontman (this seems to be the atmosphere from the UK Journey web site).

Journey band is excellent but let's face it, they are not as big as what they were before. (At least, not as big as Andrew's Kylie/Danni Minogue :D- they're lovely).

I'm absolutely sure that Arnel knows what he got himself into. After all, he's not just Journey's second or third lead vocalist. If this means he only have to stay with them for a year (let's just hope it's longer than JSS fate) so be it. He would still be a part of the Journey history.

There's no doubt he's ecstatic about the turn in his career right now, particularly, as Journey is one of his musical influences. Anyone in his shoes would probably feel the same way, be it somewhere in Asia, land of Castles and Palaces, the Silicon Valley or in a dusty cuckoo land.

All this said, I wish Arnel and the whole band all the best on their continuing Journey.

I'll PM you the site as I have not asked permission to advertise their website around. The admin will probably be pleased with the increased traffic that will be gained by it, but they may equally be faced with too much people who are pain in the neck. They are a cool bunch and are involved with charity works.

Bassed on what I've heard him sing on Youtube I think he has a great voice and will be a great fit for the band. But untill I hear him live with Journey or on an album with them I can't say for sure. I do have high hopes for him though.

Little idiot...you're asking a question that you've already answered. You've made it abuntantly clear that for you, it's not about the music. It's about trying to drag this discussion down to the level of nationality and because I think you're a race-baiting piece of shit, race (which was never an issue as filipinos are not a race unto themselves).

Like I've said before (and I'll repeat for the benefit of a developmentally challenged idiot such as yourself, "Arnel could be an ugandan head hunter, a russian mobster, an Alaskan Eskimo with raw fish guts stuck in his teeth....it doesn't fucking matter." The fact is the singer is irrelevent. What IS relevent is the fact that Journey has officially announced its 3rd singer in less than one year. Irrespective of the singer's nationality!!!

So how are you going to draw this horseshit into a racial matter now, you race-baiting piece of shit?

Apparently you and I don't comprehend each other. Someone alluded to youtube. I said that Filipinos propping filipinos isn't unheard of. This praise of a countryman is praise for his talent. The tie in that it's Journey means that you read about it here. Now I say to you again...it's completely about the music. If the guy was German, then you'd probably see a bunch of Germans give him props in german.

So it's always been about the music...why you can't comprehend that is your own personal issue. Your holier than that righteous BS belongs in that annex place with that other scrub who can't seem to understand that MR isn't his personal playground.

The fact is the singer is irrelevent. What IS relevent is the fact that Journey has officially announced its 3rd singer in less than one year. Irrespective of the singer's nationality!!!

YOU SEEM TO THINK THAT THIS IS ALL THAT MATTERS?? That's BS and you know it...that is all that matters to you, some of us other people have a different stance and that stance can be evoked of in this forum. You can choose to add or you can choose to discuss, but don't think that your shit doesn't stink. I've got 10 fingers and a mind and I can type too BIATCH.

Call me a race-bating POS again Motherfucker and you and I will have a "jihad" that could make Deano say WOW.

Me too (although I had heard of him). And at the Leppard concert last September(not with Journey) there were people that spotted Jeff off to the side/backstage. You should have heard the excited reactions around me when they saw him. "That's Jeff Scott Soto!! He sang with Journey last year!!" I guarantee you, he had us Leppard fans taking notice and they would definitely have been back taking in the next Journey shows. I have NO doubt!!

When the next Journey release with Arnel goes 5X platinum and Journey dominates the charts the once again, you'll all be jumping on the Arnel bandwagon and worshipping him like the God he is
But seriously,I'll support the guy 100%. He is simply living out his dreams.

I agree and feel that same way.....Good conclusion.....

Yeah, OK, dipshit. whatever you say. Let's be perfectly honest here, if you're at all capable. You brought the "race" issue into this discussion. Not I. (really, it's nationality issue, but race is a far more incendiary word which suits your agenda, so it makes sense that you would use it)

The way I see it, is that you can yell fire in the theater, but you're incapable of accepting responsibility when the fire dept. has you arrested. That makes you a baiter. As already indicated, this isn't a racial or even nationality issue. If that were the case, we'd be discussing this issue before you were even a Journey fan, when JSS was singing for the band...since he is from Puerto Rico.

Oh, and "BIATCH" isn't in an english dictionary I know of. If you want to assert your mastery of the english language, you might want to pick real, actual words to use in the same sentence for your baseless assertions.

What fucking planet are you from and what are you smoking dick weed? You are way off on this one. You need to read a lttile and see who the characters are around here before you say the crap you have......you are a true race baiting asshole......Go back to where you came from....

I think you need to put "just a little" more meth in your pipe brother......Keep up the hard work.....I'll keep paying your unemployment......Journey will NEVER.........................................................................................EVER, make it to the top of any chart in the MUSIC industry........

Ehh.... prickly has friends.

Whatever JSS... You guys have a frat-boy mentality.

You want to battle too, come with it. But at least be original, bandwagon moves off the scrub known as strangegrey is too easy to see. If you can't comprehend an original thought, may I suggest you buy a copy of "Hooked On Phonics"?

You want to call it nationalism, great. Ok I agree, see it's that easy.

But I maintain that all of this that is going on, if it results in platinum record sales and sold-out concerts, then is it a failure?

You won't say shit then.

Just remember...I didn't start with the insults. There might be people who might be superior ranking but that doesn't make them superior. Intellect is a terrible thing to waste. Why don't you try POSITIVITY?

Why don't you try to to be RATIONAL rather than POSITIVE.....No rock band, not even Bon Jovi, Aerosmith or Van Halen are going to go to the top of any chart(s). That was a stupid and ridiculous comment. As far as the racist remarks, you brought it.....Live with it. Don't back down now.....Grey did not bring the race card. Fuck the race card, I'm sick of hearing it. All we have heard is a bunch of mediocre YouTubes and people here think he's the second coming of Steve Perry. He could not even hold Perry's Nike's......or jock strap for that matter......

I won't be shocked if some of you say no I cannot.

The music that mattered to me was Journey with Steve Perry. It's the same with Elvis. Some people like listening to Elvis, others are content listening to an Elvis impersonator. Personally, I have lost interest in Journey without Steve Perry, just as others have lost interest in seeing Elvis impersonators copycat the King's music.

Let me make it a little clearer for you: If Aerosmith lost Steven Tyler and replaced him with a Tyler impersonator, I might pay $35.00 to see them one time at a State Fair just to hear Joe Perry rip some lead solos and drink a few beers with my friends. However, if they were on their third Steven Tyler impersonator, I would be done with them - regardless of what nationality the guy was. If at that point a bunch of the latest Tyler impersonator's fans infiltrated YouTube and my favoritre Aerosmith forum raving about how great their idol was - this would only serve to add nausea to my disgust.

NO ONE is going to do Journey songs the way Perry did. We all know that. In the meantime, I'll give Arnel a listen and a chance. I think he's capable of singing the songs fairly well. He deserves none of the negativity exhibited on the boards just because he was chosen. Won't be spending any money on the new stuff, though, no matter how good it sounds. I only 'jump on a bandwagon' if I choose to, not because popularity dictates that I should. If the group has a sort of second coming with Arnel, good for them. My time, money and listening pleasure will be spent on all past, present and future projects by JSS. Still love the music, just not the band and how they conduct buisiness.
