You've got a PM Jim

For anyone else who's lost shit, deleted shit, or reformatted shit,

http://www.recovermyfiles.com/

Find out what connection your hard drive is, IDE or SATA, and get an External Hard Drive Enclosure to act as a docking station for your hard drive, and use another PC to run that program. I just did this this week and got back ALOT of stuff for a co-worker who's PC got a virus that wiped out her boot sector and partition.

There's a few more programs out there if you look

Thanks for the help T-Bone, but Keyboards are totally different than computers. I'm getting in touch with Yamaha today, to see if anything can be done, but I'm pretty sure I'm screwed.

And to answer your question Moon, yes you can back your files up. My keyboard uses a flash drive to store files externally. I did a "save all files", looked at my songs and they were all gone. I tried to open every file on the flash drive, and they're not there. I don't know what happened, but I'm friends with the Yamaha rep for the whole east coast. I'll see if there's anything else I can do.

I took the day off to see if I can remember ANY of the songs I was working on...I'll see what I can do. It'll be alright either way, I'll just get back to it and try to write some kick-ass replacements for everything I've lost.

Thanks everyone for the PM's and messages. Take care,

Jim

my drive crashed in my keyboard. lost everything

AND they couldn't fix it or replace it. I got a new keyboard, got new software, got external storage, blah blah blah.

all i need is the motivation to learn a new system. talk about square one. that is like square -1.

maybe you'll come up with better stuff!!!

(I'll tell you that and you can tell it back to me K?)

Damn dude. That's a bad break for sure. Sorry to hear about that. Have a few for me too.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Worst thing you could do right now is try and remember them and save them on the same drive. Do not overwrite anything, even blank space. That's where you may find data to recover. Leave the drive alone until your rep walks you through. I am sure you are not the first person this has happened to and a device of that cost should have some safeguards.

Is the flash drive removeable?

I think you will be ok here. Just don;t make any sudden moves. :)

What model keyboard is it? I have alot of musician friends, and I can ask around to see if they have any input

Although keyboards and computers may look different, some may have the same types of data storage in them and they can possibly be recovered the same way. You have nothing to lose by looking into this option, and possibly get back some, if not all of your stuff.

Thanks for the help T-Bone, and I know what you're saying. They ARE computers, but they're also very different. I went on the Yamaha Motif Forum today, and someone else did the same thing I did...He was told there's no way to retrieve it! These are the guys who make and support the board.

I've already made up my mind to start over and go into it with a good spirit. I can't remember any of the tunes I had (So far), but I've already started 4 new song ideas. I'll be alright! Thanks for trying though, I really appreciate it.

As for you Deano, where's my lyrics you promised me???
