Every Generation is one of the best songs recorded by that lineup. It's not MERELY about Cain's singing, check the guitars out. Spectacular on that track, very good interplay w/ The Whale, too.
I agree with Jeremey's analysis. It had potential to be a great track, but ultimately, succumbs to creative laziness with its "Na-Na-Na" copout ending. Still, some great stuff there (Cain's voice not particularly among them).
I thought there was a huge potential for a single with that song, especially due to the lyrics. But it just kept dragging on. Half of Generations seems to get bogged down by repetitiveness. I think it may have been a vehicle to give Neal a little more room, and while Neal may shine the songs suffered for it.
Definately an album track only.
The drag on effect (which I have no problem with, clearly not aiming to get them on radio) happened in FITH, ABL, Bfly, EG.
I think FITH got the second most airply, behind TPIYH, in an edited for radio version.
TPIYH was edited for radio, too, though I don't get why. It was already pretty economical.
