I was just thinking of this yesterday when I was listening to the LIVE version of The Party's Over on the Houston Escape cd.........absolutely love the intro on that. Everything about it, the drums, guitar, keyboard, bass, Perry's killer vocal intro then right into Neal's guitar....love it. :D

I've always liked the quiet, acoustic intros to Metallica's "Fight Fire With Fire" and "Battery", right before the heavy riffs tear your head off.

You do know that Neal's guitar at the beginning to the Party's Over is supposed to be a ringing phone...and then Perry says, Hello.....pretty cool.

All excellent! A little early Dio! :D

Deep Purple's would make for a great movie soundtrack.

Yes! the start sounds like a tension builder in a scary movie!

The start of Tarot Woman almost goes along that line too.......

Jack Black forever ruined it for me but my favorite Led intro is:

and here's Jack talking 'bout how he got them to do it.

Oh, so many... Here are a few that pop into mind:

George Lynch's intro on Dokken's "Kiss Of Death"
http://mog.com/KiDG/blog_post/91022

Queensryche "Anarchy X" from Operation Mindcrime

Yngwie Malmsteen "The Seventh Sign" -- classical guitar intro segues into a killer guitar riff

Deep Purples Knocking At Your Back Door was the first one that came to my mind when I saw this topic too.

Metallica - For Whom the Bell Tolls

The intro to me means all the music up until the vocals kick in.

The one I was going to say has already been listed.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

I've heard it's "1, 2, 3, 4" in German. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
