What do these artists have in common?

Postby ProgRocker53 » Tue Jan 15, 2008 6:40 am

....and how do they differ from Journey?

Meat Loaf
Scorpions
Night Ranger
Rush
Toto
Winger

And no, Deano, and St. John, "they're all shit" isn't an accepted answer. :D

Correct too I guess.. again not what I'm looking for ;)

With Alex Lifeson, Reb Beach, Brad Gillis, and Steve Lukather I'm sure Neal's not a necessity to these bands.

Haha wrong!! Greg Phillinganes of Toto doesn't look very white to me.

And why the hate on Winger? The first two albums are hit and miss, but Pull and IV are incredible.

Dude, you can slam me in other threads and you don't think I am going to let it slide right?

Winger is an embarrassment. Kip fuckin Winger. Even disgraced on Beavis and Butthead.

If "they're all shit" isn't an accepted answer than I assume "they're all pussies" isn't either. Except maybe Rush.

Okay you posted this 2 hours ago, so quit yankin' your crank and just give us the answer.

(though I was satified to accept Behshad's offering as the correct one  )

I can't comment too much on Dokken but I have a CD on the way.

However, Winger's pretty solid. Sure their first two albums are chock-full of stereotypical hair metal, but even then they were better "technical" players than most other guys in that scene. With 1993's Pull they found their niche a little better and played some more straightforward metal, and then with last year's IV they started flirting with prog. Reb Beach is one of the best melodic rock guitarists, at least in my opinion, plus the drummer Rod Morgenstein is a legend in prog circles. I really, REALLY like their two most recent albums.. you should give 'em a shot!

I can tell you one doesn't belong on that list...Meat Loaf! He's a dude, not a band, so I hope he isn't changing his "lead singer", any time soon

I know Meat Loaf is a dude and not a band, I'm not like the other misinformed youngsters :P But yeah, he belongs on the list.

I edited the topic to "artists" :D

Ease up, boss. I really like the Scorpions and Night Ranger. Toto is pretty good and Kip Winger is amazing live. He has a very much undeserved "poser" reputation, but nothing could be further from the truth. He brought the house down and Peterik's World Stage in 07. The man can rock.

I have zero use for Rush or that fat slob Meat loaf. I wouldn't see either one if they were playing in my basement. In fact, I'd call the police. And not the police with Sting, either. :P

For slamming Rush in this manner, you should have your scrotum peeled off with a dull butter knife and your still-connected testicles used as ping pong balls.

This reminds me of the scene in "Wayne's World 2" where Garth has visions of having painful dental surgery in comparison to having to listen to Kenny G.

I couldn't agree more... You are spot on. "Pull" really came out of nowhere and was a highly underrated album. So many great songs... One of my favorites is the heavy ballad "Spell I'm Under": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-f_go0KNfg

"IV" took a little more time to grow on me, but that's a good thing. Not a weak song there, and Deano, if you don't like Bush's war policy, you'd dig this album. Very pro-troops, but anti-administration. "Blue Suede Shoes" is my favorite song from the album.

Dokken and Winger are really two totally different bands. Kip Winger is an incredible musician and arranger, with an awesome voice. His lyrical content really is different from Dokken's -- Dokken's focuses more on bad relationships and emotional stuff, while Kip's more into story telling and tackling issues. But they do have one thing in common -- apparently, Kip is a pretty major prima dona, and seeing him in videos makes me think this guy has spent more time staring at himself in a mirror than any girl I know... :P I prefer my rock heroes a little on the cartoonish side.
