OT: Nominate The Best TV Show Of All Time

Postby Enigma869 » Sat Jan 19, 2008 2:17 am

Just interested to hear what everyone's "best tv show, ever" and why? I'm becoming a crotchety old man (at the age of 37), and think most tv today sucks! My vote is a slam dunk for "All In The Family". It's the most classic tv show, EVER, and the most brilliantly written show, in the history of tv. They did things on that show, almost 40 years ago, that they would NEVER, EVER, EVER get away with, today on tv! It's amazing to think that a show from that many years ago would never fly today, because of the political correctness!

Archie Bunker made me laugh more than ANY character in the history of tv. I think Carroll O'Connor's brilliance was the fact that he had absolutely NOTHING in common, with the character he played. I don't think I've ever come across a more "believeable" character on tv. For those of you who weren't fans...here is a classic clip. A warning to anyone on the other side of the pond...He's taking England on in this clip

Today's TV does suck! M.A.S.H. is my all time favorite show. Loved it when I was little and still do. I watch it every night on TV Land. I also like Home Improvement, Everybody Loves Raymond, Friends, and King of Queens. I've seen every episode a million times, but it's better than a lot of the new shit that's on. :?

All in the Family is a true classic and very well written, however, if you are going for genius, well written and well done TV show, West Wing wins hands down.

My favourite is Family Guy.

Prison Break, The Shield, CSI's, 24, According To Jim, Will and Grace, Frasier, Rosanne, I Love Lucy, The Cosby Show, Still Standing.

Out of these I'd have to say either Prison Break best show ever for drama and I Love Lucy is the best ever for comedy.

The only difference is that I don't work for IPS and my wife doesn't have Leah Remini's obnoxious NY accent

In no particular order.

All In The Family
Happy Days
Sanford & Son
I Love Lucy
David Letterman
Saturday Night Live
Frazier
Friends
Seinfeld
Will & Grace
Everybody Loves Raymond

My favorite out of those overall would probably be All In The Family.

For me, "The Shield" -- the only show of which I have the entire series on DVD. Glad to see some other Shield fans here! Last season, they played the episodes in France 2 weeks ahead of time -- they were in English, and only the credits were in French. A friend managed to get them for me, so I saw the last 3 episodes weeks ahead of schedule, which freed up my Tuesday nights again!

One thing I hate... long waits for the seasons to start, and they are very short -- like 10-12 episodes now. Yet they still charge $50 for the freaking season on DVD. Really a rip-off! Season 6 was also originally the 2nd half of Season 5, but they split it up to spread it out and milk us for even more, I guess. Still, no show like it on TV. Next season is supposedly the last...

Great list there, Rick.
Add "Everybody loves raymond " to that and your list is the best so far.
