Caveman's Diary update (1/18)

Postby fightingilliniJRNY » Sat Jan 19, 2008 4:03 am

Not much of an update on the Journey album, but here's what he says:

"Also, been working on the Journey project, but there's little to say about it, that doesn't get someone somewhere upset, so I rather say nothing. It won't be finished for awhile yet, although my part is nearly done and it is really great."

Think he's talking about us?

Kevin has been just about the only source for anything. Might be that he pissed of the Journey guys for leaking info. Or it could be us.

What have the Journey guys leaked. We can't get even a hint of clip of new music or any information whatsoever about ANYTHING Journey. Must be us.

I don't think the loons are to blame for this one!!!

Hell maybe Friga and Fro got pissed at the last quote from him. They hadn't said anything yet and he put it out on the table - and hell continued to break loose.

I honestly don't think KS would think that his comments would spark debate or get people upset on MR.com. More likely someone somewhere saw his comments published online and a phone call/F2F was had about talking about not talking about the project in public.

Don't think for a moment Neal and Jon don't know this place exists. Trust me, I have heard it from their own mouths, that they indeed read here. During TG, they read every post, everyday. MR Journey forum is the single most lightning rod to Journey the band and Journey the fans. Hell, Neal was exposed here going by the moniker of Locknload....it's the only outlet for discourse and communication between the band and the remaining fans.

I know they read here - I got a few phone calls early on saying "Stay off the internet!!"

:D

I think Kevin is more concerned though about hearing from Neal about what he's said online than what the MR forumites have to say about his opinions...

Don't see why Neal would get pissed by anything Kevin had to say. All he did was hype their new stuff. Not a negative thing about it.

You would think...

But Journey & Co are gun-shy about the internet anyway because of the Arrival leak, the TapeGate debacle, and generally the "mystique" of the band being taken away by inside information on the 'net.

I can see that. Nobody likes their dirty laundry to be aired. Especially when it has an impact on people buying their product or seeing their performances. Of course, if they would just clean up their laundry...

Without speaking too much, yes and no.

They didn't like him associating with fans(what a terrible thing to do!), but early on, Neal used to bust up over the shit I and others would write here. He kept telling me he loved it when I would "go off" on people. Hell, after hearing that, I tried to do that even more often! I had McNeice in one ear, and Schon in the other. Haha, o well, that was a fun time. I have to admit, I loved talking to those fuckers then. If only they would have stayed the course, this band and it's fanbase could wreak havoc on the music scene. Neal, you know it's true bro. You had the perfect band, the perfect site in which to release and leak stuff, and the perfect fans to exponentionally build the fanbase. Damn you!

That's too bad when your job keeps you from hanging with the average Joes. It's us average Joes that buy the tickets & CD's that keep them in business. I'm sure they have seen their share of retarded fans over the years, but I trust that Jeff had a pretty good idea of who was cool and who was not. He was road tested for years before hooking up with Journey!

it stretches earlier than that, Jeremey.....but you're right on target. They've had a real issue with Back Talk since the early days. Neal would read shit on back talk and his head would explode. Cain too. These are guys that simply can't deal with fans thinking for themselves.

It's too bad....because the internet is really where music promotion is where it's at right now. Strangely enough, labels actually take a keen interest in how much activity a band gets on its myspace page...Embracing the internet and making it work for you is the one way to really get buzz going on the internet.

However, Journey would rather it just all go away...this way fans can't see anything other than the bullshit Neal, Cain and Assoff feed them.

Yea, but fans who didn't know how to keep their big yaps shut, though.

THAT'S why what happened happened.

That's why we here are persona non grata to Journey again.

Really? What would your solution have been? Do you think that letting them lip out the Def Leppard tour and then resting Augeri's voice could have been a better solution? Oh wait, then there was the European tour to follow that. Augeri would have been exposed somewhere by someone eventually. Who gives a shit if we are persona non grata to that camp? Not me. Buncha jackasses if you ask me 13.

:!: I'm glad tapegate was exposed. Not only should nobody be allowed to get away with that shit, but it was the catalyst to finally boot Augeri. Worst singer choice since Robert Fleischman. If the band is to continue without Perry, their music needs a soulful sophisticated crooner on their material, not just a belter with simple vocal chords. Their getting caught was a blessing in disguise for them.

Of course, time will tell if Augeri's replacement is a better choice. On paper, he appears so, but the proof is in the new material, so bring it on.

This is the part where; this band is damn'ed in they do and damn'ed if they don't. Someone is going to find a quote "where they lied to us" even if it is someone talking off the cuff about what they would like. I wouldn't expect them to release any songs to a group in the attack mode.

I absolutely give him that. One thing has nothing to do with the other. I don't disparage his character one iota. In fact I think his personality is the majority reason he was hired in the first place. Neal wanted zero drama and zero ego with any new lead singer and Augeri certainly fits that bill. He worked his ass off. Great stage presence, just not a qualified vocalist and all the protooling done to his voice shows that.
