I worked two jobs to get through college and put in the extra effort in my career to move up some in the world. I am not rich, but the D's seem to think so. They want to take more from those that earn it and give it to others that don't. I don't quite get it. It's supposed to make me feel good that they are who judges as to whom has too much and too little? Yah, like Sen. Kennedy and John Edwards has a clue what it is like. Give me a break.

No one talks about the risk involved in gaining wealth. Every day people put their businesses and personal wealth on the line to take things to the next level, which often includes employing more people. Take away the reward and no one will take risks. See what that does to advance our country.

The corporate boards are who should be taken to task for agreeing to pay the outrageous salaries these days. There may be a few individuals who mean that much to their respective corporations, but it'd be hard to convince me of such. Again, the free market system has to prevail in the end though.

Sure there are those in need that will never have a chance, and they should be helped. However, they need to reform the system to get those that can work off their asses and into the workforce. That is one of the things Bill Clinton did get right. Check how much of our tax money actually goes to help them versus just feeding the bureaucratic monster in DC. You'd be shocked. They need to incentivize charity donations and get that out of government.

Cut government spending. Cut taxes. Gotta do both.

For your information Dean the richest 1% DO pay most of the income taxes and the income tax breaks were targeted to the low and middle class. Not getting the tax cuts made permanent will cost me close to $3000/year in additional taxes I will have to pay. That $3000 would be better spent on my daughter's education, paying down my mortgage, or being put into my retirement; not being given to a government who will give it away to other people, for the simple fact that they don't make as much as I do.

There is a HUGE difference between multi-BILLIONAIRES and someone who is making $80k/year. It seems the people who are most interested in reapportioning wealth are either those with SO MUCH money they just don't care because it won't change their lifestyle one iota or those on the other end of the spectrum who are paying NOTHING in income taxes and for some reason think they should get money back while those of us in the middle are squeezed to death.

I've seen managers at Walgreens, Target, Wal Mart and other huge chain retailers and let me tell ya, they aint the sharpest knives in the drawer, but they have pretty darn good jobs with excellent benefits. They try really hard, and that's what most people simply refuse to do. Instead, they sit around in their public housing complexes whining about how everything is so unfair. Stepping onto the soapbox - - - with some random thoughts

Being one of those "lucky" individuals that fits in the 33% tax bracket, I can tell you that I don't need to pay more taxes. I am a small business owner and came from a VERY middle class upbringing. I work hard and I am fortunate to be able to do what I do and earn what I earn. I also realize that taxes are a necessary evil. I prefer a consumption based tax (like fair tax). And before someone jumps on me for that, realize that a proposition like Fair Tax does not reduce my tax liability, so that is not why I support it.

The issue is not whether high/middle/low income earners are taxed appropriately, it is that there is ZERO accountability in how Washington SPENDS our tax money. They don't need more money. They need to spend it more wisely. Congress and the President have no accountability. Irrespective of political party. It's OUR job as citizens to keep Congress and the President in check and it's OUR fault that the country behaves the way it does. Gone are the days when the gov't did what was best for the people. The monster's too big now.

With respect to CEO salaries, they command what the market will bear. Much of which stems from public trading on the stock market. These guys are paid to bring shareholder value. If a company grows, they have done that. Countrywide sold a TON of mortgages of the last several years. Good for the bottom line. Those mortgages were then bundled and in turn, sold to investors. Once again, good for the bottom line.

Also realize that taking the job as a CEO is not like what most of us do. They assume that role with a contract. That contract ia ALWAYS written to benefit the person assuming the position.

Apply the same "value" scrutiny to entertainers whether they be actors, musicians, professional athletes. People bitch about the cost of a sporting event, concert but they STILL GO. You vote with your dollar, plan and simple.

I always find it amusing when people bitch about increases in health insurance premiums b/c their evil company didn't want to foot the increase. In the same breath they are reveling in that great expensive vacation they had last year. Priorities WAY out of whack.

The reality is that we as a society don't truly pay people adequately for the jobs that matter - police, firemen, teachers, out MILITARY, etc, etc, etc.

What I threw out up there is EXACTLY what he did when he didn't see the gov't or the rest of his "class" stepping up to the plate with real solutions. Those of you out in Cali might be familiar with his actions, who knows. When the rest of Cali was in the shitter, he took HIS total pay and paid all of his Cali employees more than a fair wage, took care of covering their insurance premiums AND premiums into their retirement accounts. He collected ZERO monies for a number of years... so that his employees could not only earn a living wage and be contributing members, but keep their houses and kids in college. This was a man who started on the docs, worked his way up (sound familiar?) through management and eventual CEO/COO and owner of two domestic corporations in Cali and two international corps. So, by your neatly boxed little standards, he should have just shit on his long term employees, let them dangle in the damned wind and took his neat little salary down to Cartagena to buy yet more diamonds. Cause, lord knows, by some standards he shouldn't exhibit ANY standards and just say ta hell with everyone else, "I gots mine!"

A) that title. The Steve Perry of The Philippines" wasn't self-imposed, which means the press called him that for attention. If others took that and rolled with it, that's their drop. All along the guy has said till he is blue in the face that there is only 1 voice and that he'd simply step aside, "No hard feelings."
B) Every video link except for the CNN clip was done in The Philippines. I translated the Tagalog because I felt that it would be a benefit to hear what he was telling his people in the Philippines so that'd you see and hear everything he was saying.

Let's look at reality for what used to be the middle class of this country.

A person with 3 kids who lost a factory job paying $50,000/yr with health care benefits wasn't on easy street but he/she was doing OK.

The company he/she worked for closed operations in this country and moved to China. The only jobs available to this person are in a small business and only pay $25,000/yr entry level with no health care benefits. (you can't get food stamps or medicaid if you make $25,000/yr in most states)

First off, they're going to lose their home. There's no way to make the mortgage payment on $25,000/yr with 3 kids to feed and clothe. They're going to have to find some kind of lower scale housing. He/she sells the house and uses the equity to pay off the car loan and other outstanding debts.

Then one of the kids gets appendicitis. Well there's an automatic(at least) $50,000 medical bill. So what does this family do without to pay this bill? Do they stop eating healthy, good quality food and start buying their clothes from Goodwill? Even if they do those things they still can't make the minimum payment allowed on this debt and still cover their bare-bones living expenses.

WHAT DOES THIS FAMILY DO?????

This is what's happening to the middle class of this country. The people making $80k aren't the middle class. If they are, then this country is in even more trouble than I thought because that would mean that people making $50,000 a year are living in borderline poverty. That may be a "fact of life" in Chicago, New York, LA, Houston, etc., but in the real "middle class" areas that make up the vast majority of the landscape of the USA $50K buys a decent life.

Now that is the biggest joke ever. There are some links on here where a poster has had to "translate" what the boy wonder is saying. Am I being asked to learn a new language to understand what he is saying. To hell with that shit. Arnel Pinata couldnt sing his way out of a paper bag where Steve Perry is concerned.
