This is just another guy living his dream, basking in the spotlight with his own national press.

Think about all the "proud to be an American" songs, messages, symbols, etc. we broadcast at every opportunity. Arnel's clearly proud to be a Filipino; frankly, I'd be appalled if he weren't.

I really wish SA's voice had held up and he was still fronting Journey. I wish JSS hadn't been treated like crap by people who were supposed to be his friends. But the situation is what it is, and none of it is AP's fault.

Linda

Bingo!!! And the legacy part is simply that he is a part of the incarnation known as Journey. He is the lead singer, for however long a time, for the band..Like Robert F, Like Steve P, Like Steve A, like Jeff SS That is all.
He'll be known as a lead singer when an album comes out ...till then he's just a fill in .

I love how everyone tears down to build themselves up...its cool though, if ya can't come up with something relevant it's much easier to just go ahead and tear down. If people look up the history of Journey, since there was an OFFICIAL announcement, then well...it is what it is. You can continue on with the cut-downs, it's predictable from a few posters.

I like many others will await to see what the next album sounds like :)
LMAO yah official means so much in that camp....

All you had to do was ask. I could understand perfectly. I'll translate the parts you shouldn't know but the rest of it should be very easy to hear...IF YOU LISTEN. That is if you really wanted to.

All this at the Hard Rock in Manila so of course, it will be a place where Taglish is completly accepted and expected.
When the context is in America, he'll speak barely any taglish and mostly in an American Accent.

When asked what he has to offer Journey, Arnel with open arms says,"I'm offering Arnel Pineda."

He then says to all," I hope I'm not trying to sound braggy but you are all going to get Arnel Pineda with Journey and I'm a Filipino, ayon.( Ayon translates to Agreed in this context.)

When asked about how he feels about the Racial Slurs that have been said on some websites Arnel replies with,"You know Neal Schon told me that there are just a few of them talking bad , actually that America is starting to embrace Arnel Pineda and I hope that you are here too."

When asked what happens if Steve Perry wants to come back? He replies, "It's always been his band, You know it's his legacy so...I think, kahit mag stay with Journey for 1 year I'm very thankful talaga that I became a part musically of history of Rock in Roll in America."

Kahit mag stay loosely translated means If my time...
Talaga means really.

His manager adds that Arnel has been saying all along that if Steve Perry wants to come back, he will step aside. To which Arnel acknoledges and says, "Yeah...no hard feelings."

He ends it with this,"Hello everyone, my kababyans, the album will be out early summer, support po. Pinoy Power."

Kababayan means compatriot or townmate. Po in this context means Please support.
Can someone translate what you just said?

Yes, I can translate,
what he meant is, if youre lookin for a true american Journey then youre shit out of luck.

Not the best choice, but hey, can you blame Neal? He was FRUSTRATED cause he didnt have a singer. So he did what he had to do. Get rid of few good choices, let frustration build up and get on youtube. Thats how everybody does it these days. 8)

ttango,,, ease up there. You can not expect all of us to support this guy. At the same time that Im happy for him cause his dream has come true, I just cant understand why they have to go with the name Journey? Wouldnt it be better if Pinnie kicked out all his band members in Zoo and replaced them with Neal&Co!?

I'm not sure of the incident your talking about, but I do know what Wowwowwee is. You see, we have a Xerox techrep who is a Filipino who comes out to service our copiers and he constantly suggests that I go to Vegas and see Wowwowwee. I don't need to go to Vegas when I can see them on Youtube:

Hey does the w2 stand for the form that I fill out for tax purposes?
Make sure you choose 1040EZ, I think the A form might be a bit too taxing for your comprehension skills.
I suggest, "Hooked on Phonics" for a start. I just bought it for my nephew for Christmas. He loves it.

Tango and Sushi..... Off and on I've been asking the Fils here locally about AP and his being brought into the J band. I've not mentioned all the other nonsense (they wouldn't care one bit as they collectively - save one - don't "do" the J band.. lol). Most of them are my age and older (just say 40+). None of them have heard of AP. I asked if they would ask their kiddos/family members. Several did ask when they made their weekly calls home (to the homeland), and their families had heard some things on the news/newsprint, but still didn't know him or of him. A couple of the teen/twenties family members had heard of his original band (the name escapes me now), but didn't really get into it.
I thought for sure that some of them would know something, as our population here is rather large to say the least (Navy base and fishing industry - NOT putting them down at all - hell Dat Nyguen is from a neighboring town and we watched him during hs ball games....). Is my area just a fluke or what? Of course, besides Crazy Deb and I, I really don't think there are many huge J band fans round these parts (more tejano, etc). I guess that makes this little bitty town ripe for a summer show?

Just thought I'd ask about this. Anyone else asking around like I did? If so, what did you find amongst the populace?

Me too, I work at a place where there is quite a few Filipinos and the same thing applies. A friend of mine is seeing a lady from the Philippines, and she's heard of him, not sure if he's a household name or anything.

Bryan Adams is an easy voice to reproduce in my opinion. I could understand a little of what they were talking about, but I'm just a little bit rusty in that language. Asked Arnel how he auditioned for the part and if it was a tape or cd or something like that for a demo that was submitted and Arnel states that Noel (ref rolling stones mag) who lives in Olongapo did the videos and downloaded them to Youtube.

One thing Arnel mentions is Chatterbox. I'm interested because there was a club in Olongapo called Chatterbox back in the 80's and 90's that I used to go to. Great Lumpia, other food and live entertainment while you ate your meal. It was a really neat club. I am wondering if the videos that Arnel is talking about Noel downloading onto Youtube were shot in the club that used to be Chatterbox. Arnel I think also mentioned playing in Hard Rock Cafe in Olongapo as well.

This show that Arnel is on, reminds me a lot of a show I used to watch back in the late 80's called Lunch Date. It's like this show that Arnel is on is the new version of Lunch Date. Anyways, yeah Ttango1, please fill us in on all the details.

Question 1. So has any heard Arnel Pineda and Journey play togather yet? if so, what did you think of them

Question 2. What do all those singers you mentioned, do not have in common with Steve Perry?

Question 3. When was the last time this band had a hit, and who was fronting the group?

Question 4. Which was the most successful line up of this band to date?.

Question 5. Why are they trying to emulate the Steve Perry sound still?.

Interesting questions :)

1) Not yet.

2) They're not as good.

3) A long time ago. Perry.

4) Escape/Frontiers era lineup. The perfect band at the perfect time.

5) Because that's what the fans want to hear.

Okay it's translated-just all the main important stuff.

Postby ttango1 » Tue Jan 22, 2008 6:16 pm

The dude with the glasses says in Tagalog,"Good morning, Do you guys know who my friend Arnel is? He's been my friend for a really long time. I used to watch him at Chatterbox when {we were looking to have a good time}(loose interpretation) How are you?"

Arnel replies,"I'm good Kuya." Kuya is a reference to a male person who is older than you are. Word to the guys that want to date hot filipina chicks, if they call you Kuya...the hunt is over and you will not get any play. Dating is no longer an option. Ok back to the interview.

"Congratulations, How did you become the new lead singer of Journey? Did you audition, apply, send a tape...what happened?"

Arnel says,"I have this friend, he's from Olongapo, his name is Noel Gomez. He made videos of us, as we played our music in Olongapo for about a month. He missed us once because he wanted to do it again(a 2nd taping). So he followed the band to Hard Rock in Manila. From there he asked me if it was okay to record a gig. He asked because he wanted to make it a remembrance and he reasoned that he didn't want these performances lost(In this context, I feel he means wasted. He wanted more people to have a chance to see them play) Well that tape(the video) after it was completed, he texted me and told me that he uploaded it to youtube. After all of that in about 2 months or so, he was contacted by Neal Schon via e-mail and he brought the e-mail to me."

Boy asks,"Who contacted your friend?"

Arnel says,"Neal Schon the guitarist of Journey, After 10 minutes of responding back via e-mail to Neal, he called me."

Boy the asks,"Was the youtube videos enough, or did you have to audtion more, what happened next?

Arnel,"I had to audition again and I left around August 12th."

B-"Last year? Did you have to sing with the band, how did it go?

A-"I had 2 live sessions at their warehouse and then had to do a home recording session with Jonathan Cain. They thoroughly wanted to test my voice to see if it really fits with Journey."

B-"Of course,The rest is history. They know your voice fits and you are now their lead singer for Journey." He continues,"Can we get a sample of what I used to hear at Chatterbox those songs that awaken the heart."

A-He sings a line from BA song Heaven.

B-"Amazing voice. Where did it come from, are you trained?"

A-"Not really, it's mine but probably from my mother, but my father could sing as well. They were both good singers."

B-"What about you Sitti?"

S-"It's a gift from the LORD. because no else in my family can sing."

Boy then asks Arnel how it was in his very lean years. It's a story of how he was paid 35 pesos per week.(That's pretty low). Even though he wasn't paid a lot, he learned so much.

They then talk about love life stuff. Arnel says he's been with the same girl for 5 years and that he has a son named Carab?(I can't hear it very well, it could be Carabnel-Sorry about that, people who know should throw it out there because I don't hear it."

The rest of it is all thank yous. :)

I asked the people at the youtube sites to try to translate at least the highlights so that way all people know what he is saying. We'll see if they do it.
