That guy in my av is the greatest guy in music. That guy gets it. Journey should maybe take a cue from him and learn how to treat their fans...you know, the people that make them rich. BA has 50 times the fans Journey does and could buy them 20 times over. Proof that class wins out over greed and debauchery.

I would like to see BA this year keep me up dated when he is playing near the Baltimore DC area. It would be good to hear a real band play live

Poll 95% of Journey's concert audience this summer and I guarantee they won't know or care that Schon and Cain act like assholes, they fired Jeff in a shitty way, and they made Augeri walk the plank. You act like they're gonna say "They did?!?! Fuck them, I'm outta here!!!" They'd turn to me and say "Get a fuckin' life, dude." And rightly so.

Why the Hell would I A) poll a Journey audience and B) why would I care?

Fact is, I don't care who the fuck knows what, I and many people do, and I won't be a party to it. Dude, they are scumbags, all of them. Every single one of the four(not AP). I wonder how the Hell they sleep at night?

But I thought you just said (in another thread) that you still like Neal?!!!! :)

Has there ever been a tax increase that stimulated the economy? If you say yes, you're either lying like the guys this board is named after or have no idea about economics 101.

I work 50-60 hours a week (nights, weekends, whatever it takes to get the job done), making all sorts of sacrifices such as missing kids games, etc....but, I'm not a "working man." That burns the hell out of me.

I worked two jobs to get through college and put in the extra effort in my career to move up some in the world. I am not rich, but the D's seem to think so. They want to take more from those that earn it and give it to others that don't. I don't quite get it. It's supposed to make me feel good that they are who judges as to whom has too much and too little? Yah, like Sen. Kennedy and John Edwards has a clue what it is like. Give me a break.

No one talks about the risk involved in gaining wealth. Every day people put their businesses and personal wealth on the line to take things to the next level, which often includes employing more people. Take away the reward and no one will take risks. See what that does to advance our country.

The corporate boards are who should be taken to task for agreeing to pay the outrageous salaries these days. There may be a few individuals who mean that much to their respective corporations, but it'd be hard to convince me of such. Again, the free market system has to prevail in the end though.

Sure there are those in need that will never have a chance, and they should be helped. However, they need to reform the system to get those that can work off their asses and into the workforce. That is one of the things Bill Clinton did get right. Check how much of our tax money actually goes to help them versus just feeding the bureaucratic monster in DC. You'd be shocked. They need to incentivize charity donations and get that out of government.

Cut government spending. Cut taxes. Gotta do both.

Peace.

YAY! Someone who gets it. What Deano is doing/describing is simple class envy: "The rich have to much, and I don't have as much so the government should take their money away and make a level playing field."

For your information Dean the richest 1% DO pay most of the income taxes and the income tax breaks were targeted to the low and middle class. Not getting the tax cuts made permanent will cost me close to $3000/year in additional taxes I will have to pay. That $3000 would be better spent on my daughter's education, paying down my mortgage, or being put into my retirement; not being given to a government who will give it away to other people, for the simple fact that they don't make as much as I do.

Working hard for some people is not an option. When you're born into and raised in a house full of lazy people, you'll be lazy too. Those people will only work hard enough to get by, and not at all if they don't have to. The thing is, working hard changes a depressed person with low self esteem into a vibrant, positive minded person. Like you SJ.

Look at the newbie come out for an asskicking. You listen to Karl Rove way too much. Yeah, I am smarter than you and saw that asshole say the same exact thing you just said. Karl was a bit off in his prediction of the republicans gaining a bunch of Congressional seats in the 2006 midterms eh?

The GOP has zero chance to win. You are incredib;y high if you think they can win. Hell, Clinton, Obama or even Edwards...they all would win over any GOP nominee.

I am watching you, fuckin asshole.

Not even close. We take money from hard working people and give it to those that sit around in public housing complexes eating food they bought with food stamps. They'll NEVER work an entry level job at McDonalds or the equivalent because it pays about the same. What these dumbfuck leeches don't understand is that you can actually move up within a corporation or any other job if you work hard. Something that 3rd and 4th generation government dependent scuzz-fucks will never understand so long as they get everything free. I suppose our country's new motto should be "Don't glorify greed, be mediocre."

Wow.... Here's a deal for you SJ and others who feel this way. Take that top 5%, have them cut their own salary/compensation packages/stocks held/pension plans/golden parachutes and time buyouts down to a RESPECTABLE amount of dough (heavens knows THEY are not the actual decision makers within the corporations that they run, rather the figure head), take the rest and put it into respectable salaries for those "lazy ass" employees that they pay minimum wage (if they pay them minimum, there's more money traveling upward into their own pockets, no?).
I agree that this nation is FULL of class envy - though it runs both ways (as is evident in your own words up there). There is no simple answer, but surely what I just laid out just might work to start us in the right direction. I mean really, is ANY CEO or COO worth nine figures a year (with all the stock options/compensation packages, et al)? Personally, I'm not seeing it. Hell, even a few of the glory boys have seen the light and are throwing bucks back at the lower end (I'm thinking Gates with his scholarships, etc. amongst others).
About the only thing I know is the status quo that we have now will ultimately weaken the country to the point of being ripe fruit for the bravest taker - and far too many that are outside of the 5% (who are neatly tax sheltered) will be willing to go along with the outside forces.

There is a HUGE difference between multi-BILLIONAIRES and someone who is making $80k/year. It seems the people who are most interested in reapportioning wealth are either those with SO MUCH money they just don't care because it won't change their lifestyle one iota or those on the other end of the spectrum who are paying NOTHING in income taxes and for some reason think they should get money back while those of us in the middle are squeezed to death.

You are right about CEO's getting paid outrageous sums, and that needs to stop. The CEO of Countrywide just drove his company into the ground and is going to get some obscene amount of money for doing so. PATHETIC.

Handouts and excuses...par for the course. Trying to make me think that people that go to school, educate themselves and ultimately do well are the problem with this country is a colossal waste of your time. Most have the capacity to be that CEO or COO, but we simply don't have the discipline, drive and/or determination. I'll admit that I'm one. However, I'll never fault or attempt to insinuate that they need to give anything back that they've earned. They don't. If you dislike capitalism move to Russia or China.

Great post Panther.

I truly and very sadly feel your pain Dean. It's gotten so that I get so infuriated at the blind ignorance from members of the opposition that I can barely type a reasonable, rational response. I've heard it said that it takes a fool to argue with one, and that's clearly what we're facing here.

The corporate tax cuts you are referring to will only stimulate job growth. It's kind of hard to create jobs when the government loots your profits and gives it to those that....refuse to work!!!

I've seen managers at Walgreens, Target, Wal Mart and other huge chain retailers and let me tell ya, they aint the sharpest knives in the drawer, but they have pretty darn good jobs with excellent benefits. They try really hard, and that's what most people simply refuse to do. Instead, they sit around in their public housing complexes whining about how everything is so unfair. Yeah, let's send them more money. I feel so sorry for them.

Stepping onto the soapbox - - - with some random thoughts

Being one of those "lucky" individuals that fits in the 33% tax bracket, I can tell you that I don't need to pay more taxes. I am a small business owner and came from a VERY middle class upbringing. I work hard and I am fortunate to be able to do what I do and earn what I earn. I also realize that taxes are a necessary evil. I prefer a consumption based tax (like fair tax). And before someone jumps on me for that, realize that a proposition like Fair Tax does not reduce my tax liability, so that is not why I support it.

The issue is not whether high/middle/low income earners are taxed appropriately, it is that there is ZERO accountability in how Washington SPENDS our tax money. They don't need more money. They need to spend it more wisely. Congress and the President have no accountability. Irrespective of political party. It's OUR job as citizens to keep Congress and the President in check and it's OUR fault that the country behaves the way it does. Gone are the days when the gov't did what was best for the people. The monster's too big now.

With respect to CEO salaries, they command what the market will bear. Much of which stems from public trading on the stock market. These guys are paid to bring shareholder value. If a company grows, they have done that. Countrywide sold a TON of mortgages of the last several years. Good for the bottom line. Those mortgages were then bundled and in turn, sold to investors. Once again, good for the bottom line.

Also realize that taking the job as a CEO is not like what most of us do. They assume that role with a contract. That contract ia ALWAYS written to benefit the person assuming the position.

Apply the same "value" scrutiny to entertainers whether they be actors, musicians, professional athletes. People bitch about the cost of a sporting event, concert but they STILL GO. You vote with your dollar, plan and simple.

I always find it amusing when people bitch about increases in health insurance premiums b/c their evil company didn't want to foot the increase. In the same breath they are reveling in that great expensive vacation they had last year. Priorities WAY out of whack.

The reality is that we as a society don't truly pay people adequately for the jobs that matter - police, firemen, teachers, out MILITARY, etc, etc, etc.

It's a capitalistic society and we ALL are guilty of greed. It's just a matter of degree . . . . .

pfffttttt.... You're one of them and you are trying to throw insults at me? Laughable, SJ. My ex father in law was amongst that top 1% just a few years ago. What I threw out up there is EXACTLY what he did when he didn't see the gov't or the rest of his "class" stepping up to the plate with real solutions. Those of you out in Cali might be familiar with his actions, who knows. When the rest of Cali was in the shitter, he took HIS total pay and paid all of his Cali employees more than a fair wage, took care of covering their insurance premiums AND premiums into their retirement accounts. He collected ZERO monies for a number of years... so that his employees could not only earn a living wage and be contributing members, but keep their houses and kids in college. This was a man who started on the docs, worked his way up (sound familiar?) through management and eventual CEO/COO and owner of two domestic corporations in Cali and two international corps. So, by your neatly boxed little standards, he should have just shit on his long term employees, let them dangle in the damned wind and took his neat little salary down to Cartagena to buy yet more diamonds. Cause, lord knows, by some standards he shouldn't exhibit ANY standards and just say ta hell with everyone else, "I gots mine!"

As far as "colossally" waisting my time trying to change your mind on anything... well, SJ, I've lived in TX a long ass time and there's more than one way to make a mule see the whole picture. Seriously though, I live my life by "bringing possible solutions to the table," not merely bitching about everything wrong in the world. That said, I've yet to see one of your solutions. Or is it your belief that there isn't a thing wrong with the status quo?

The biggest beneficiaries of any "corporate tax cuts " are actually small to medium sized business - the ordinary Joes who work to keep family businesses running. I was glad to hear McCain make such cuts the number one point in his economic recovery plan which he announced in South carolina last week.

Well Journey fans, how do you think I feel? Asia is my favorite band and there are now 2 versions of them touring. :?

Actually I'm fine with it as I like the original version, but also really like the John Payne version. More music in the same vein is ok with me. But just imagine if there were 2 Journeys?

At this point I'd rather go to the Steve Perry/Gregg Rolie/Steve Smith/Randy Jackson/George Tickner show. :D

Now that is the biggest joke ever. There are some links on here where a poster has had to "translate" what the boy wonder is saying. Am I being asked to learn a new language to understand what he is saying. To hell with that shit. Arnel Pinata couldnt sing his way out of a paper bag where Steve Perry is concerned. The Filipino's that make that kind of a statement are only showing their true ignorance and stupidity.

One the other hand, Journey is looking for a good polyglot, one who is experienced at interpreting also.

For the average reader: Polyglot

pol·y·glot /ˈpɒliˌglɒt/ [pol-ee-glot]

adjective
1. able to speak or write several languages; multilingual.
2. containing, composed of, or written in several languages: a polyglot Bible.

–noun
3. a mixture or confusion of languages.
4. a person who speaks, writes, or reads a number of languages.
5. a book, esp. a Bible, containing the same text in several languages.

A) that title. The Steve Perry of The Philippines" wasn't self-imposed, which means the press called him that for attention. If others took that and rolled with it, that's their drop. All along the guy has said till he is blue in the face that there is only 1 voice and that he'd simply step aside, "No hard feelings."
B) Every video link except for the CNN clip was done in The Philippines. I translated the Tagalog because I felt that it would be a benefit to hear what he was telling his people in the Philippines so that'd you see and hear everything he was saying.
C) I can't believe how so many posters interpreted the musings of a few to be that of everyone who is Filipino. Hey you have these links here on MR that show any of that? I challenge you to produce one. I know it ain't me.

I wonder if Arnel was a Filipino guy born and raised in San Francisco or South Detroit, would half this turmoil even be needed?
I mean a Portuguese guy born in Hanford did great. Should there be a limits to a guy born in a land 14 hours away by plane? Why should there be? That's the question.

If some of you are really this dense...that's fricken amazing. You don't honestly believe you have to learn a new language to hear Arnel. Just go back to saying that since he ain't American, then he ain't worthy.

I can understand that some don't like how previous singers were dealt with. I can understand why some people didn't like the way Jeremey was treated, I say again, he would've been a fine choice. The Roanoke article talked about how much he too sounds like Steve Perry. http://www.roanoke.com/entertainment/wb/146327
And sure enough, there they were, trying to look inconspicuous on a park bench by a big fountain, listening to a cover band playing their songs, with a singer who sounded remarkably like the guy who originally sang them.

So why don't some of the geniuses say what is the major difference, since they both sound remarkably like Steve Perry? Jeremey, you have free reign on what you want to say if you'd like. Assuming that you, not Arnel, got the gig and the band told you that you were going to re-record the dirty dozen, what would you do?

Oh and why wasn't the word multilingual used? When you live in a foreign land being bi-lingual is pretty easy to come by.

When it gets down to it, I'm curious, What is the #1 reason overall for all the seeming hate for just plain Arnel? The guy was offered a chance to sing with what we all know is a band with an awesome history, what would you have done?
Let's see...
Assuming that there are many of you who have strong vocals, if they called you, flew you to the Bay, and then liked how you sounded and offered you the gig and you said yes, at that time right there...do you have enough pull to say, guys...we need to get away from the dirty dozen.

Let's look at reality for what used to be the middle class of this country.

A person with 3 kids who lost a factory job paying $50,000/yr with health care benefits wasn't on easy street but he/she was doing OK.

The company he/she worked for closed operations in this country and moved to China. The only jobs available to this person are in a small business and only pay $25,000/yr entry level with no health care benefits. (you can't get food stamps or medicaid if you make $25,000/yr in most states)

First off, they're going to lose their home. There's no way to make the mortgage payment on $25,000/yr with 3 kids to feed and clothe. They're going to have to find some kind of lower scale housing. He/she sells the house and uses the equity to pay off the car loan and other outstanding debts.

Then one of the kids gets appendicitis. Well there's an automatic(at least) $50,000 medical bill. So what does this family do without to pay this bill? Do they stop eating healthy, good quality food and start buying their clothes from Goodwill? Even if they do those things they still can't make the minimum payment allowed on this debt and still cover their bare-bones living expenses.

WHAT DOES THIS FAMILY DO?????

If you think this is an exaggerated or exceptional circumstance you're a bona fide member of the IRA(Ignorant Republican Asshole) party.

This is what's happening to the middle class of this country. The people making $80k aren't the middle class. If they are, then this country is in even more trouble than I thought because that would mean that people making $50,000 a year are living in borderline poverty. That may be a "fact of life" in Chicago, New York, LA, Houston, etc., but in the real "middle class" areas that make up the vast majority of the landscape of the USA $50K buys a decent life.

Look dude, there's nothing wrong with American people wanting an American singer. It's ok if I only buy American cars isn't it?

I'm pretty sure Hungarians would be pissed off if I were to go sing in some Budapest based rock band. Firstly because I can't sing for shit, and secondly because I ain't Hungarian. That doesn't bother me.

I honestly don't care where Arnel is from, if he can do the job, he's alright with me, but I will stand up for people who are patriotic and I don't see a damn thing wrong with it. If it's alright in the rest of the world, it's alright here too.

Out of the 3 companies that Gap owns:
Gap
Banana Republic
Old Navy

Old Navy is the most affordable 8)

Ok....it's been explained. At least I know that you guys ain't harping on the guy because of the way he sings. Since he too remarkably sounds like Steve Perry. I like British Cars but unfortunately, they sometimes break while sitting in the driveway :?
