Herbie Herbert interview??

Postby Liam » Tue Jan 22, 2008 5:32 am

Do any of y'all still have the "Castles Burning" interview bookmarked? I thought I did...but alas I don't.
Thanks :-)

That's a hell of an interview. I wish he would do a part 2. I'd love to hear what HH thinks about everything that's transpired since the first interview.

Same here. Hell...just give me HH's number and I'll do it.

Liam: So...what do you think about those fuckwads in Journey now??
HH: They're stupid shits. Steve Perry's an asshole. I need some pot.

Every Perry Loon should study that interview. Actually, every fan of the band should. It's the most in depth thing you'll ever read on Journey.

Damn...what a read man. Steve Perry gifted voice-world class prick.
Man that VH-1 thing threw me off with that pro-Steve Propaganda. I was moved, but now after reading that interview, now...not so much.

Oh well, maybe the possible success of whatever new products without Steve's legal wranglings will produce something that this version of Journey will be proud to release and hopefully you'll support...that is, if it kicks ass!!!

If it doesn't, then all bets are off.

Yep, it'll change some of your beliefs for sure. I sure wish there could be a follow-up. From the first interview, it was pretty obvious that Herbie loves to talk.

I'd love to see a follow up "Behind the Music" without Steve having editorial control. Just listening to Herbie and Pat would be interesting.

He loves to talk for sure, but some of it is BS.He has no proof for half of the things he's saying.
I'm not saying that things didn't happen, but my feeling is that 1)he had an axe to the grind and 2)like all the gifted story-tellers,he added lots of dramatic BS to hook the reader.Great job,but as long as we know only his side of the story....meh.

Deano-man, I wish you'd elaborate. That line that Herbie uses where you'd turndown a life-jacket is a really strong visual. Shed some light and help me see THAT Steve. Still though, no matter what, 1 hell of a voice. Past the personal crap, the songs resonate so great in my generation.

Having met him a few times...way back when...and yes, I was and impressionable kid then, I believe HH is a very honest man. Perhaps, honest to a fault. He was brutal how he treated people, but it was all very honest and open. He called a spade a spade, and let it ride. I'm not sure what axes he's ever had to grind. He's made tons of jack...not just from Journey, but from other acts he dealt with also. The man may just be tempermentally angry in general. He may just be predisposed to having a beef with just about everything. HOWEVER, no one can deny his business sense in the music industry.

As far as the interviews go, he's probably exaggerating a few things, but take it with a small grain of salt. He's a salesman! He lives hyperbole! I wouldn't read anything at all into what he's said...I'd just take it very literally. He's right, perhaps in his own mind, but he's most likely right overall. It's just a matter of angle and refutable spin.

I think if he wanted to, and especially if he needed the cash, he'd jump right back into the biz and make a few more millions.

sometimes when your running things like a manager is you can still be areally good hearted stand up guy but if its your job to tell people things that must be done and things you know are the right way but the people you are telling it to are stubborn or rebellious then there is a chance the manager ends up coming out of it looking like a dickhead even though he isn't.i think perry was headstrong and him and herbert clashed in their vision of how they wanted things to be.

Herbie is a loathsome, self-serving has-been who, like the current Administration, believes all ends justify the means.

When HH gets to hell, he will be forced to spend eternity managing Menudo and Kirk Cameron and the Funky Bunch.
