It shipped Platinum.

The only reason it shipped platinum was the fact SP was back in the band.

So?
Gonna hold that over Schon/Cain's heads?

He was ALWAYS in the band when they went platinum before.

Schon/Cain went platinum without him in BE, that's as many times as HE did without them.

Okay, I see today is going to be like pulling teeth.

Dude, Steve Perry is probably responsible for BE going platinum. How so? Without Perry, Journey never never gets the fame that is required for the casual fan to know that "Journey" members make up Bad English. I am NOT diminishing Neal and Friga, just saying, without Perry, BE doesn't sell a dozen records.

Yep.
Like yanking a giant abscess molar out of the decrepit mouth of a wombat harrassing loon.

Perry was responsible for BE going platinum?

Then Schon/Cain were responsible for Street Talk going platinum.

I think the real story of TBF is how long it took to go double platinum...

It shipped platinum because of the reunion hype so it was partly because of Perry (as well as Smitty, Ross, Neal and Jon). But it did not retail platinum for quite a while and it took a real long time to move another million units.

But I do not think Journey would ship a million today if Perry returned. Hell, Look at the Eagles debut numbers. They have sold a couple million now but in the first week they sold 700K. A Huge number but not when you think about it being the first CD of all new material in 28 years!

Seconded.
It's damn near impossible.
What the Eagles did with that album is nothing short of jaw-dropping especially given that it only retails at WalMart.

Journey even with Perry would go gold now which adjusted for the f-d up way this business IS now for artists would be like ROR's double-platinum in '86.

Any idea how iTunes figures into the sales count? Does a download of a full album count as a "unit" sold ?

Digital downloads are kept track of by their own charts but I don't think there is anything "universal" and "official" yet. That would mean the record labels and RIAA would have to accept D/Ls as a legitimate business...

That tells me that there are more sales than we are hearing about - all artists included! But you are right, count digital purchases and it means you recognize them.

I really don't think so. The band carried on with out him. They've dilluted their market base. Yes, a spike in sales would occur with his return, but I don't think it would generate the level you speak of. Just my opinion.

Not a fucking chance! ESPECIALLY without a tour. TBF STILL hasn't neared 3 million...

I was waiting for Circuit City to open their doors the day that Trial By Fire went on sale. As I was waiting two more people were standing there waiting for the store to open, and as it turned out they were also there to get their coppies of TBF. The store probably had at least 40 coppies of it there on the shelf at the start of the day.

Bet me. Over the course of a year, with the long time off between Perry CD's...Dude, it would be as big as the Eagles.

A Perry-fronted Journey CD would easily sell a million, maybe two. Throw Steve Smith back in the fold and you have an extra 200 units moved for sure.

Agreed. With massive sales in the US and Japan, then Europe. However, considering the online market the figure would be even bigger. So would be the illegal downloads....
