JEFF SCOTT SOTO: 'This Is Quintessentially The Best Album I Have Ever Done' - Jan. 23, 2008

Legendary hard rock singer Jeff Scott Soto (TALISMAN, JOURNEY, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) is currently working on a new solo CD at a studio in Gothenburg, Sweden. According to Jeff, "this is quintessentially the best album I have ever done! I know a lot will disagree because it doesn't really fit in with the last two AOR/melodic rock-style albums; this one taps onto a whole new territory for me. It mixes soul, R&B, pop, and groove with rock edge at times but the bottom line is it KICKS ASS! The album is mostly co-written by Paulo [Mendonça], myself and other writers from the Phrased Differently house as well as along with my Aussie buddy Ben Carey (SAVAGE GARDEN, LIFEHOUSE) and newcomer Sam Grow. It may alienate the traditional Jeff Scott Soto fan who wants more 'Stand Up & Shout' or 'Lost In The Translation', but I know the diehards who understand what I am truly about will hear this as the new beginning for me as I do. It is the perfect musical smorgasbord of influences I love all in one stew! You'll have to wait until we're completely happy with mixes and mastering before any samples will be unleashed but this for me has to be treated like the bottle of fine wine it is."

Jeff Scott Soto will perform with Sao Paulo, Brazil's TEMPESTT during the latter band's upcoming European tour beginning March 1. According to Soto's newsletter, Jeff will join TEMPESTT "about seven songs into their set [every night], performing the song he dueted with them on the upcoming album plus another six or seven songs from the Jeff Scott Soto repertoire (TALISMAN, 'Rock Star', solo, JOURNEY, etc.) as well as returning to the stage for the encore."

"It mixes soul, R&B, pop, and groove with rock edge at times but the bottom line is it KICKS ASS!"

Love that JSS is creatively not scared to take risks. Can't wait!

This is really cool! I'm looking forward to hear the new material. 8)

Couldn't help noticing that Sweden affected Jeff's language...LOL..."smorgasboard" - that's a Swedish word at the origin,"smörgsbord" meaning a variety of meals.
Delicious! :D

Thanks for the news,Deb!

New music in a new direction, but a combination of all the styles he has embraced!

What a novel concept

Unlike some other bands who shall remain nameless

8)

I, for one, am thrilled!!!!!!!!!

Comical sour grapes that Journey gets bashed for using a formula that sold 70 million

No bashing for that. We're all here because of that formula! They just aren't willing to put out new "bottles" of the formula.

Of course, if they do have new stuff, and they perform it, then I'll have to take everything back.

As opposed to exactly what bands of their ilk and genre that are cranking out million sellers this decade?

Sounds to me like he's making an album that's more radio friendly to today's music. I think that's a very good idea myself. He has an R&B base to his voice that should be explored in places besides just traditional 80's melodic rock. Much as I love that style of music, I don't fool myself into thinking the majority of today's music purchasers feel likewise.

Jeff, post 30 second clips when you feel comfortable to whet our whistles!

Totally agree. On the Talisman dvd there is a little snippet of him singing a Jackson 5 song.....smooth as hell! Looking forward to the soul/r&B/motown/pop groove side. :)
