Wow, that's just crazy. I was told that if my house was in California, it would sell for well over a million. I live in Texas and I paid $113,000 for it new in 1999. Lula has been to my house. If she remembers it, maybe she could tell you what it would go for in CA.

Where are you getting your information Barb? Even the article on this thread states people who paid taxes (fourth paragraph down) are the ones who are entitled to it. I know the last time this type of tax benefit happened all the people on welfare and government assist that paid no taxes at all were hella pissed off because they weren't getting any of it. So some of these people were on the news arguing that they should also be entitled to this tax bonus because they paid taxes every time they bought something. However the money they were using to pay for shit, they got through welfare and government assistance. The stipulation is the money had to have been earned where it was subjected to taxing in the first place. I'm glad to get some extra money back as is everyone else who paid taxes throughout the year. Overlooking that little technicality I know doesn't jive with your point of view and opinion on this tax bonus, tax system, and country. But the deal is in black and white, I don't know how more clear it could be written for you to understand.

We make too much money to get the rebate, but it pisses me off because while it may be a lot of money in other parts of the country, it's a median income where we live. We pay a shitload of taxes and it would be nice to get some back, but we won't. However, the article does state that: "Workers who make at least $3,000 but don't pay taxes would get $300 rebates. "

Do you understand my POV now?

You do realize that someone who makes $3000, even if they paid taxes would get every cent back at the end of the year anyway.

Like I said, what may be a lot of money in one part of the country is not a lot of money in the Bay Area in California. The federal government treats income the same no matter what part of the country you live in or what your cost of living may be.

People who do not pay taxes but are getting a $300 check are getting that from the taxes WE PAID and it's not a rebate, it's welfare and it pisses me off.

The rebates would be limited to individuals whose income is $75,000 or less and working couples with incomes $150,000 or less.

Bingo bro. I knew there was a reasonable explanation to this. So they did pay some taxes out of the earnings from each paycheck that they got. It's just that at the end of the year, they didn't earn enough to get taxed again, or to have their annual earnings considered for taxing.

Another article which clearly covers the technicality.

Also, many people who make this amount yearly will generally have the income on a contract or similar basis and therefore have to file a return using a 1099 instead of a W2 since no taxes were withheld. So why go through the trouble of filing.

The rich pay more than there share. Go to IRS.gov and they break it down percentage wise. Please stop listening to the class envy crap that we hear without listening to facts according to the collecters.

I agree. It's bull to decide that some get it and some don't. Those who don't make enough to pay taxes..will get something..but those who pay taxes..but make to much..won't. Different parts of the countries means that $$$$$ goes around so differently. I'm not even one who makes to much not to apply..it just seems a bit..

Just because someone makes a descent amount of money doesn't mean they don't it..or shouldn't be allowed it. This seems bias to me..yet just becuase someone doesn't make enough to pay taxes..let's go ahead and give them some.

The cut off of where it says you make to much to get any money back..to some..that may seem like a lot of money..it just depends where you live and what your life requires.

The more I read it..it just sounds funny..you earned to much money..so we aren't going to give you anything..and to those who don't make this sort of money..it sounds like so much..but it isn't to those who live where it cost so much to live.

I believe they tried to get this done way to fast without really thinking. It should have been broken down only to those who work and pay taxes..then from there..more thought should have gone into breakdown of net according to location.

Nothing really to do with this..but whenever this sort of thing comes up..I think back to when I used to live in an apartment. I had neighbors below me who didn't work and next to me. They lived off the government and drove a better car than me, got to go to school for free, dressed really nice, etc..I just never understood it. Here I was working my ass of every day and I had a hard time sleeping because they were all up all night partying because they didn't have to get up and go to work..yet they were living better than me.
It really, really is messed up.

Back up the boat there buddy boy..... I bitched LOUDLY about that one. I don't get my funds through welfare or any other gov't assistance program. I still didn't get that neat little check others got, that year. Here's the deal with the po folk, if you care to look around you. These gov't peeps want to "stimulate" the economy. Is pumping the banks, the S&P, the fortune 500, etc., REALLY stimulating the economy? From the sounds of it, they want more purchasing going on. Through that purchasing, the businesses can then expand, hire more, etc..., no? THAT is stimulating the economy. Now, back to the po folk. I'll dig up a couple of links if need be, but the purchasing power in these here US of A states lies almost solely on the backs of those po folks everyone bitches about. They are the ones that will run out (with these new found "free" funds, whether that be this little check or that EIC check) and buy up Wally World, Best Buy, the nail salon, franchise diners, etc. They will NOT put it into an investment account to sit for X amount of years until retirement, nor sock it away for a rainy day. Sure... Family Z may put it into upgrades to the ol casa, but that benefits them, NOT the economy.

From where I sit, it's a grab at votes... It helped the last time, it'll help this time. Sad thing is, while they are playing god with the pennies for the po folk, they are sitting nicely with their salaries, benefits and health care taken care of basically, for the rest of their life. They aren't concerned with the "people," they are merely concerned with staying where they are.. if they can get enough people blindly following this line of thought they are throwing out there, their position is secure.... til the next go round.

They need to show some real balls for a change and stop spending for their own damned pet projects that benefit so very few and address the issue head on.

About the earning too much situation, you got to understand, some of these completely rich people don't even know what it's like to have to save up money to purchase a friggin muffler for their car. They just continue to get richer and richer by bringing in the money and living off just it's interest alone. The tax bonus is all about giving back a little green to the people who's paid taxes but still doesn't have much money left over to make ends meet. People with hundreds upon hundreds of thousands rolling in aren't in a situation where a small tax bonus means a lot. It's a completely simple deal here, if you have to file taxes at the end of the year, your entitled to the bonus. Make too much, you don't need a bonus to be helped out financially. Very simple issue but for some reason it's been converted into a rocket science.
