People who do not pay taxes but are getting a $300 check are getting that from the taxes WE PAID and it's not a rebate, it's welfare and it pisses me off.

So much for that giving spirit. Not everyone is as fortunate as you, Barb. There are hard-working people making $6 an hour because your asshole hero of an incompetent dickwad of a lying sack of shit President hasn't bothered to raise the minimum wage.

Had they worked hard in school they would have jobs that pay more than $6 an hour. I don't know too many people that worked hard and excelled in school that make $6 an hour. However, I do know a bunch of lazy fuck ups that fit that description perfectly. While that certainly doesn't apply to everyone I'd bet my yams that it covers the vast majority. You really seem to be an apologist for laziness. Why is that?

Not sure where you are 7 Wishes but in California the minimum wage just went up to $8.00 per hour effective January 1st. That's pretty good. I remember flipping bergers down at McD's when I was in high school for $1.75 an hour. $8.00 per hour was something only adults with families, houses, and dogs made. Now it's kids down at McD's. Inflation is an interesting animal.

Dan, good Lord, man. Come on. An apologist for laziness?

There are a lot of assholes making six figures who sit on their asses all day and play golf all afternoon. I've busted my ass for everything I have ever had in my life. Not everyone can go to college or grad school...not everyone can make $60 an hour teaching piano or running an IT division...

One of my biggest bitches is raising my taxes so my paycheck is smaller..but 'thy neighbors' WELFARE check will be bigger next month. Who paid for that..I did.
Again..they don't work, but keep me up so I am dead ass tired at work the next day.
Yet they can afford all the beer and cigaretes they can consume un !@#$%^ real.
Anyone notice this. People who don't work and/or are on welfare..can still afford cigs and beer.

I am seriously not dogging welfare. When I was young and couldn't work for 9 months. I got state help..but I didn't make a life out of it and used the money to live on barely..but I didn't stay up all night doing whatever the hell I wanted because I didn't have to work.

Let's just keep teaching the young woman in this country to stay unmarried..but keep having babies. You all will be provided for..get free rent..go to school for free..and not have to work..

Taking money from people who have earned it (by HARD WORK) and giving it to people who have not is not charity, it's socialism.

You should be able to file as head of household and claim both kidsa nd your girlfriend and get a ton back plus rebates for each kid. I'm not a tax pro, so double check that!

The goverment doesnt want to support "shackin up" weither it be gays or straight people. If you try claiming Head of Household maybe that ll do it for you, I hope so for your sake

You actually get more money as head of household. I filed as HOH for my daughter and I and then we got married and ended up owing money when we combined our incomes. But... if she doesn't work, it would probably come out the same anyway.

So people who make a descent amount of money aren't hard working..or didn't work hard to get there?
Only people who make minimum wage are hard working?
What even does a 'giving spirit' even have to do with this. She's not the one making the decisions..just saying that she has worked hard..worked so hard that her income level doesn't allow her to get anything..yet it's her hard working giving to those who don't always deserve it.
If a adult is still working and making minimum wage..that's fine..circumstances are circumstances..but making minimum wage was never set up as a life thing. It really was set up for those first starting out. The way things have gone lately though..many have had to turn to that as their main source.
I really do see both sides and I am not even in a high bracket..I just don't like coming down on someone just because it's thought that because they make a descent living that they are just fortunate..not that they haven't earned it.
A lot of people work..do..sacrafice many things to live comfortable.
A lot of this stuff is about choices. All I know is that I have seen many who are more than able to work..who don't and are ruining the system by staying on welfare as long as they can..and I am for one..one of the one's basically paying them to do so.
It was my taxes paying for them to not work and keep me up all night..so it was my business.

Thats good to know Barb, maybe that will help Mike out, Im self employed and dont pay quarterly, for me it works better to file jointly, and use her withholdings to pay my taxes. and we both claim ourselves and our daughter as exemptions , if that makes sense. I hope you dont work for the IRS fuck them

Well the problem is there are huge masses of people who do use welfare and government assist as a way of life. I mentioned in the O.J. thread that I lived in the hood at one time. It was quite interesting how twice a month, everyone would be out in their yards getting drunk and stumming guitars until 3 in the morning. For the longest time I couldn't understand why twice a month the neighborhood would come to life like that. It was also quite ironic how my mail would be removed from my post box on those days. Then one day I found out that on those days is when the government assist and welfare checks come rolling in and on those days is when postal workers have the highest chance of getting rock and rolled during their mail routes. They use the food stamps or what I like to refer to as the "funny money" in ways you could only imagine. That's how they can afford cigs and alcohol, even though they are not supposed to use it for those types of items. One guy will trade the other guy his funny money for some real money that's all that is. From what I learned, families get x amount of funny money and x amount of real money biweekly.

I used to go to this hair stylist who would tell me how she had so many clients who lived in section 8 housing who would schedule all day $600 chemical hair straightening appointments. They live with thier boyfriends/baby's daddy but don't marry them or get jobs so they can get all the free cash. How does this HELP anyone? It's a scam in so many cases and this type of fraud needs to be dealth with. Instead, California politicians just want to raise taxes even higher and give away more money. It's insanity. I would work 3 jobs before I ever took a handout from anyone, but today's culture seems to embrace and reward those without the motivation to work hard.

I'm bitchin' because I won't be getting the rebate. Although I did my taxes last night and I'm getting a nice refund so I shouldn't complain too much.

Your refund is just your money you overpaid that the government used the past year. Check out the taxes paid line before contributions. That's what counts and that usually bites.

Do you people realize that $10/hr is only $20,000 a year? How many of you could live on that with a couple of kids, especially without health care benefits?

Calling those people lazy just because they were fucked over by the government that paid the corporations to move out of the country is just what I'd expect from some people though.

Ya, so that means teenagers who work after school are getting a "rebate" too. People who do not pay federal income tax should not be getting a free check courtesy of those of us who do pay. In what other circumstance would you accept this? Imagine if you went to buy a new TV and you paid fulll price for it, then found out another person only had to pay half price just because they don't earn as much or choose not to work. Is that right? It's so easy to give away other people's money, but I'm betting you wouldn't be so generous if you saw the impact to you personally.

Can I tell you all something......
My Father worked all his life until he had his hip replaced when I was 19 and
was then stricken with cancer and leukemia and not able to work for the remainder of his life.
He missed out on his benefits and pension because he was just shy of ten years in at general Motors.
He lived on welfare for over 7 yrs and that paid him 750 bucks a month, not even enough to make rent here.
A couple years before he died he won his settlement and had to pay every penny back to Social Services
even though he had paid into all his working life.

I believe someone mentioned they are sour about some being on assistance
and staying up all night serving there own wishes.
Well your right, my Father did stay up all night but he didn't spend it doing whatever
he wanted, he spent it puking from the pills and chemotherapy that he had to pay
out of pocket for.
Thank god for our family that helped him get those meds that allowed him a longer life with us.

Not all fit into your little files of how fares should fly.

Barb, they are literally handing citizens some "spending money" to invigorate this shit economy.

That's all this. It's not designed to be a reward sytem, it's designed to be a government bailout.

This is anything but capitalism. This is socialism and it proves a bit of government intrusion can and is a good thing.

I think if you are naive enough to belive that you are guaranteed a job for life, you get what you deserve. I've been forunate to survive many rounds of "work force reductions" at my company, but if it happens to me, I'll deal with it and move on. I'm certainly not going to sit around whining about the government. How does that help me or my family? You learn new skills, you move out of the are if you have to -- it is YOUR responsibility to manage your own life. I just can't wrap my head around the concept that if I lose my job, it's the government's fault and Hillary Clinton is going to make it all better. That is pretty stupid.

There may be A-holes that do nothing, but don't forget there are A-holes that have never worked, inherited fortunes, spent their entire career in the fictional, make-believe world of congress, that try to tell us when the money we EARN is too much and when we ought to give it to others.

This makes me want to puke. Industries such as construction and health care can't find enough employees. They will train or pay for training. All you need to do is being willing to show up to work on time and have some ability to learn. Have you seen construction wages? Even in the midwest a carpenter can make $30 an hour plus fringe benefits. Electricians and plumbers even more. Brick masons can earn $80,000+. Wages are much higher on the coasts. They can not find enough people to do this so don't give me this shit that there are no opportunities out there.

You can all kiss my a$$ if you think just because I make a decent salary, I'm not a working man. Just posted this in another thread, but...to get where I am, I worked two jobs to get through college, once in the workforce worked what ever was necessary to improve my employment opportunities. Continue to work 50-60 hours a week (evenings, weekends, whatever it takes to get the work done), make all sorts of sacrifices like missing kids activities, sports events, etc., but then I'm not a "working man." F off. Sure, why not take the rewards of my families sacrifices and FORCE us to give them to others. My wife and I support numerous local and state charities both financially and with time. We can see the benefits of this. I don't see much result from our $$ that feed the bureauctric monster in DC. You kidding me? Shit.

Think raising the minimum wage is the cure all? Try some Economics 101. Cost of doing business raises with artificial wage increases. Businesses will then outsource to other countries or raise costs. Result? Lost jobs completely or inflationary effects. Cost of goods go up and lower wage earners are right back where there were. Then...gosh, give us another minimum wage increase.

Peace everyone! I gotta get back to "work."

You know what YOU should be doing?

Shopping here in the US and trading the dollar. The Canadian dollar is stronger than the US dollar. Think Mooncrack. :)

I don't think anyone is saying there are not legitimate cases of people needing asssitance, but there is a LOT of abuse and fraud going on too and that is never addressed by the government at state or federal level.
