Thanks, man. That one worked after I closed and reopened my browser. I can't view any forums, though. UBB error?

Looks Ok to me.

Neal states he wanted to get back to Journey signature sound.
Soaring tenor.
AKA
Steve Perry sound
as Greg Rollie was no tenor
I suspect that's why they gravitated away from Jeff.

Jeff has an intense energy
& I liked him having his own sound.

Arnel seems like a really nice guy
Good luck to him

I tried looking at this website an hour ago from work and was disappointed to see the old page. Now that I'm home I thought I'd try it again and was pleasantly surprised.

I gotta hand it to them, it's a pretty site.
I really like the way the photo gallery is set-up. I enjoyed scrolling through the pictures even though I've seen most of them. was very pleased to see Jeff included. I also really like the way the "Band" page is set up though I agree that they chose some odd pictures for the past members. :?

Still trying to decide if I'm gunna join the new forum...

Anyway, it's a nice site. Good job guys.

Once you get past the idiotic flash page on the front (and discredit the stupid second life shit) the site as a whole is a nice layout. Looks good.

Hopefully it'll last longer than the next singer change.

Same BS flash intro page as before? I must have an old link. Not that it matters. I won't be spending much time there anyway.

Site looks good. Clean, simple navigation, attractive layout. I'm disappointed they didn't include audio clips. I hope they have plans to. I'm not going to see this band or purchase their new stuff until I hear what they sound like with Arnel first.

Can't say I'm crazy about the flash entrance page, only because they have the studio version of DSB with Perry's voice floating over a picture of the band fronted by Arnel. They should have tracked only the instrumentals across that image, no vocals. Just a true credit where credit is due kind of thing.

Yeah, I like how they did the band historically like that. Pretty cool.

Yeah, it's a nice idea, but I don't like the way it actually looks. Should have used different pics from each era, even of present band members. OR even used one group shot from each time frame with the year and the names under it. Its the same pic of Neal, Jon and Ross all the way down... and and Steve and Smith are those black and white pics... it's looks really sloppy.

Oooh, I found a pic of Perry in Journey Island... *ducks flying cease & desist orders*

Okay, I'm on the website under Discography (after guessing which tab it was) and I'm reading the commentary on each album. Here is the commentary for Escape, which pretty much coincides with the general theme of writing the album commentaries.

Escape (1981) Journey's seventh studio album (and eighth overall), Escape, was released in July 1981. Escape was the band's first album with new keyboardist Jonathan Cain who had replaced founding keyboardist Gregg Rolie who had left the band at the end of 1980. The album was co-produced by Kevin Elson and one-time Queen engineer Mike Stone, who also engineered the album. With three hit singles out of "Don't Stop Believin'", "Who's Crying Now" and "Open Arms" plus rock radio staples like "Stone in Love" and the album's title cut, Escape became Journey's biggest selling album yet, and remains one of their most popular and best-reviewed works to date.

Then I read this further down for the commentary on Raised on Radio. A little anger perhaps? Not very professional commentary in my opinion for a worldwide website. Granted, it's true, but it could have been worded a little better for an album selling point. There isn't one song on the album listed.

Raised on Radio (1986) Journey's ninth album, Raised on Radio, was released in May of 1986 on the Columbia Records label. Following their two most successful albums, lead singer Steve Perry decided to take more control over the band's direction. First, Ross Valory and Steve Smith were fired from the band, against the wishes of manager Herbie Herbert. The two were replaced by various studio musicians for the recording of Raised on Radio, including Randy Jackson (bass) and Larrie Londin (drums). Smith did record two tracks with Journey on the album, and he and Valory still received revenues from the record and subsequent tour. Both returned to Journey in 1996.

The Melodic Forums blow Journey's site away. Who wants such a dark, ugly background? It's difficult to read and there's way to much shit on either side of the page. There are no sound clips and those horizontal blue lines hurt my eyes. I give the site a D+. It's a small step up from terrible as far as web design goes. Still doesn't factor into how I feel about Journey though. Plus I'll still poke around there a bit every now and then anyway...til my eyes start hurting.

I hate to be critical -- but who DESIGNED this website? It looks like a fanmade site, not a professional affair for a band with this history and legacy. The header writing is almost unreadable (and evokes asian writing to support those who think the band is concentrating heavily on this market). And to be clear, I'm not critical of Asian writing -- I think it's beautiful -- just on difficult to read letter characters on an American website.

The album descriptions do everything they can to diminish Perry to the point that it's glaring and obviously ham fisted. To add insult to injury it's not even accurate : "Just the Same Way" featured original lead vocalist Gregg Rolie in place of Steve Perry". Uhh--- okay. Whatever you say. I remember a duet, but spin it however you like...

Also noticed the black and white pictures of Perry and Smith. Intentional or not -- it DOES send a subtle message, doesn't it? Agree that the pics should be era centric.

To diminish Perry is to diminish the "Legacy sound" they are trying so hard to continue. Jouney's Legacy is also Perry's voice. If you continue to honor the legacy sound that made you successful, then you should continue to honor him. Like him or not, to not do so is to be hypocritical.

On Second Life: Personally I think it's creepy but understand that's where things are going. One more reason to shut yourself off from the real world courtesy of technology. (side note: 9 times out of 10 the local borders bookstore doesn't have the title I'm looking for -- I drive around to Barnes and Noble -- no dice. Order from Amazon in 45 seconds and save on gas as well as interacting with real people. Progress?)

What's EVEN CREEPIER is that this is the "pong" version -- imagine how advanced and REAL the people icons will look down the road -- ie: think Matrix movie and how video animatics look now. Think the BEOWOLF movie and even more realistic. Before too many year pass I'm 100% CERTAIN you can have a PHOTO REALISTIC avatar of yourself with pitch perfect speaking voice that you can ROAM around with in Cyber space --- and I will still think it's CREEPY. Apprarantly someone already posted people are cheating and there are cyber detective avatars running around in there. ** shiver**. Just imagaine when things get photo real the kind of creepy happenings in an unreal world.... **double shiver** This will be like Myspace -- an internet WITHIN the internet. And I still don't get myspace either. I don't feel the need to have 8 websites for something on line. One go-to source in fine. For Journey info -- it's here. MR posts the news before they do, and in a forum where you can express yourself -- but I digress..

Like it or not, Journey is actually ahead of the curve here whether anyone actually participates or not. But it's not something 85% of their existing and older fanbase will participate in.

On the positive front -- I'm eager and curious to hear what Arnel can bring to NEW Music, and perhaps also Live.

On the website front -- go to paulrodgers.com to see what a modern, clean, LEGIBLE, and professional website should look like.

New Website verdict = amatuer hour
New Vocalist verdict = Perhaps best possible
Jouney Island verdict = creepy, and to get creepier

Yeah, that's a shitty description considering that this is supposed to be viewed by people who are not too familiar with the detailed history of the band.
If they decided to get into that kind of (debatable) info, they should have said that "after TBF Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon decided to fire Steve Perry and record "Arrival" with a new singer".

Other than that,Perry's and Smitty's b&w pics are bad choices for the overall look of the Band page.

And where's Robert Fleischman's 1977 picture?? Daniel is going to be really pissed!

Seems to me that they really attempted to cover all the bases. For years the website hardly acknowledged Perry at all and it pretty much completely ignored pre-Perry. I am sure there will be some tweaks. The band pics are "redundant". And I thought about the B&W issue but then noticed Randy and Larrie were still in color. However, no one seems to be mentioning that Gregg and George are BLUE!! The album descriptions must have been lifted from somewhere else. But at least they cover ALL the discography. Interesting how there is no real description of RED13 though. The photo albums are cool. And the band is not blatantly omitting anyone. You can hear samples from the CDs but I hope there will be real audio clips on the site later. Since they call the one section "Multimedia" I am going to ASSUME there will be more added (otherwise, obviously, it is not "multi" media!!)

I think they have done a heckuva job on the site and I am overall pleased. But they must continue the work. Add more stuff and they better have updates regularly.

On another note, did anyone check out Neal's website? I haven't been there for a VERY long time because it was never 'finished'...only the news really. But now there are video downloads (just an interview right now, but still) and links to Audio downloads (all iTunes, but it's getting there). So maybe there will be a true web prescence from these guys...

I'm liking the new site less and less now that I've actually bothered to read the discography page. :?
Aside from the aforementioned very hostile description of "Raised on Radio", could they not find anything at all to say about "Trial By Fire"?

And what the heck is with all the errors in spelling??? I don't claim to be an expert but COME ON people! At least spell check your work before you post it on an "official" website!

I did register for the forum. I thought, "eh what the heck? At least I'll have a place to post any babbling, thoughts I have when I feel like being a loon or a wiggler!" :)

But now that I've been approved and can actually look at the forums, I can't stand the layout! It's too dark and too busy. I can't focus on anything.
*sigh*
Oh well. I still think the home page photo gallery are pretty!

The good news is, I'm definitely certain the new CD will be better than this website! 8)

You can change the background from white lettering on grey fields to black lettering on white fields in the preferences. But once you see that you might just like the dark look better.
