I suspect in a desperate attempt to get the forum back, they made some serious promises to keep the forum a completely clamped down promotional tool for the band, nothing else.

I wonder what happens the first time someone says something critical about Arnel - how he re-phrases a song or how he doesn't hold a note long enough or something like that. Surely there has to be some differing opinions allowed or it's not a forum, it's a cheerleading camp!

I have to comment to what bjg said about the band pictures. seems they only used head shot of the current members for all the years. would have made much more sense to use head shot of everyone, but again the marketing tool comes into play. the smaller shots of previous members diminishes their contributions to the band. perry being in black and white along with smitty makes him sort of ancient history. at least in my opinion.

Show's you what I know! :? So much for the Asian market theory. How's the music market in Egypt??

I don't know about that, let me see...

Try this:
http://pages.6arab.com/singers-ar/middl ... b-ar.shtml

But look at the arabic writings and notice the similarity between that and the Hirosh font that the new site uses for titles.

Hey did you see this?

Someone pointed out in another thread that it's the same exact font from that album.

Yeah it's nothing to do with Arnel, I don't think. The album's been around for a while.

I was really surprised also... when I was looking at the new site one of the first things I noticed was the "forum" button on the far right and I thought "No shit... really?"

See...Not Asian :) But I think the Hirosh font is kind of cool and because to me, it looks arabic...I think it really fits.

Did Perry do any pro head-shots for TBF or were the promos only as a group? That would explain why they used an ROR shot. But then I don't know where they got Smitty's. So that would likely be a "permission" thing again. Same with Gregg's...it must have come from him but it is a pro head-shot. So it seems they are trying to keep with the pro-promo shots. (Oh wait, they didn't with Steve A. and JSS). But they still need to go with different shots from different eras instead of the repetitive shots.

Why? They already have an Asian in the band, why do they have to make the page look Asian? :? Does that mean that an accent is going to (still) be in the songs, too?

I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. That font has been used by them for years. I know there are a lot of conspiracy theories about why they're doing what they have done, but come on. The font they are using on the website is supposed to look Asian???

Well, I didn't read through the thread before posting that last post. Someone found where that was used before. On The Essential Journey compilation. No Asians in the band then, I wonder if they were bracing us for when they would hire an Asian lead singer down the road???

I haven't seen fonts that look like that anywhere. Sure a lot of dots and stuff. I guess I didn't buy the rehashed complilation of songs I already own so if its on a cd, I missed it. Where else would they have used it? I miss the Infinity, Evolution, Departure theme.

Bottom line, regardless whether it looks like shit or not...its hard to frickin read. I can understand the scarab theme though. That does make sense. Still is hard to read.

Who'd of thunk it...all this discussion on "font styles". I'm not a conspirasist, just one that finds the business side of things to be of interest. It's all marketing, just maybe not the slant that I first thought.

That's right, they could have picked any cropped color pic of SP from the TBF album. The B&W ROR pic was not a standalone promo shot (Neal & Jon were cropped out). Or they could have gone with a color stage shot, ala SA and JSS. Doubt they contacted SA and JSS to get those specially from them.

No, they were not cropped out. That was Steve's headshot from back then.

Journey forum

Postby annie89509 » Thu Jan 31, 2008 7:39 am

I clicked on the forum, but got a blank slate. Do you have to register now to read the messageboards?
Like many, I only had a passing interest in BT. Never bothered joining as I found it too much rah rah cheerleading, Journey could do no wrong stuff. So now they're calling the message boards Generations. We don't have to guess who's idea that was  . And Rich Meyers was probably the 1st person to run over there to re-join. His silence off the boards all these months must have been killing him.

Maybe, but it's still a really ugly font.

Isn't it the same font used on the cover of "The Essential Journey"? That came out several years ago so I don't think it really has anything to do with Arnel being Asian.

Well, even if the font's general concensus is that it's Egyptian, I still hate it. :P Been a fan for years, yet I didn't make the connection with one album. :::shrug::: Whatever... It just looks really out of place to me.

Bwuhhahahahaha! Yes, they are now controlling what you can read there, too? What's next? "True" fans must purchase secret decoder rings to decifer the liner notes booklet???

Sorry, I'm just really cranky today. Guess I should have chosen another day to look at the new :::cough, cough::: site, huh?

I didn't connect that it was the same font from EJ either. On an album cover is one thing... but on that site it looks really crammed and hard to read. I don't like it. They need a classier and clearer font. Shit, the Escape font would have been easier to read.  LOL!

This site is much better overall and, like most of you, was floored that they mentioned JSS since he never appeared on any recorded Journey material.

No thanks, then. Not only do they want only cheerleaders, they don't want any type of critical eyes looking in, it appears. Pretty elitest, I would say. Is that good promotion?

From a design standpoint the site leaves a lot to be desired. I like the blue with the lines for a background - simple, elegant... and the multimedia page is nice too, with the flash gallery... The news page seems pretty normal... not much on it yet, but hey, we'll give it time... after that... I don't know what happened. The "band" page is a mess. The font is headache-inducing. If nothing else, that needs to go.

Nothing new or worthwhile on the site, really. About as interesting as the old version. Picture gallery? Right, nothing like looking at scans of the reissue booklets. Throw a monthly never-before-seen video clip or a live download I can purchase and the site would have my attention.

I went into the sluggishly-slow "2nd life" thing and that was one hour of my life completely wasted. All I saw was some voice telling me what songs were on which albums. Wow. That's got to be the stupidest thing this band has done since I became a fan in 92.

I don't know that he was ever "officially" hired... wasn't he more or less on a trial thing at the time they fucked hi- I mean at the time they found Perry and were very out in the open with RF about bringing him in to audition?

JSS, as we all know, was offically given the gig.

I always forget that song exists. Don't know why. But I do stand corrected.

I'm assuming at least one of the reasons they included JSS because they know there is fierce loyalty for him. I would LIKE to assume they also honestly considered him a member therefore believe that he should be included. But who knows what goes on in the thought process.

I love all the whining and moaning about every single solitary detail of their new site.

The fact that it's back (and with a forum to boot) pisses "Journey fans ( )" off to no end.

Jihidists aren't happy because Journey still exists and they used a b&w of perry w/ the bouffant ( :D ).

Drive-By-Shooters (though still few and far between here between the loon jihadists and the assassins) are angered because...I don't even know why, actually :?

Assassins are frothing because the band didn't give them a chance to be infuriated over omitting the JSS era....

And all are collectively bent that the site is back at all.
